Honestly after you and Charles started making content on youtube, my knowledge about dds and especially tanks grew exponentially.
It's wild how people who consider themselves endgame or close to it could be playing basically wrong all those years. Idk if that knowledge was there for actual endgame people for a long time or not but I know for sure that most people merging from mid to endgame watching guides that are saying that you need to use sturdy, that armor cap is ez to get, that Nords aren't that good anymore, that mag recovery is goated and stuff like that.
About content creators, tbh I don't think they mean harm, more like they probably don't know what's better. The issue though is that they are too sure in their knowledge which isn't always the right one.
So thanks for giving actual argumented and proven information. Like I said I really learned a lot by watching your videos.

I believe Noldonir is way better than any of these mid content creators, he’s clearly the most skilled when it comes to tanking and shows that none of these guys know what they’re talking about. Please brush up on your knowledge before you make such claims, thanks.

I just want to thank you again for your content. I tried tanking when I started playing and I was told “go 5-7 sturdy so you can survive, ensure the boss is on the right place and survive, that’s your job”. I said f** that’s boring and went dd. However, playing with actual good tanks in recent trifecta progs and watching your videos have encourage me to try tanking again… and I am enjoying it. So, thank you.

Edit for anyone wondering after this guide: I felt an immediate improvement after switching from all sturdy/some reinforced…this guy is 10/10 would watch again

I'm not sure how much of the info in these vids is still relevant in update 40 however, I made changes to my tanks suggested in your vids & goodness most of the content I do now is twice as easy for me. Simple things like verifying that tremorscale & crimson with stack, the above info (ditching sturdy), etc have made my tank builds feel more like tanks rather than aggro holder.
I'm not going to dis anyone but after using your info vs the info i got elsewhere, I'm not using a certain other stie for tanking anymore & you got yourself a new sub. I appreciate the info

Great video, my entire Tamriel worldview and 600 transmutes had just gone to waste lmao.
Although, I don't think it's entirely fair to the Tank Club to refute it so harshly, speaking from the peak end-game perspective (don't know why he didn't do vDSR HM, as he was up there with RG last year - guess due to real life). Say, the "Necro tank is worst" - the fact that they're vital for SBS is something most tanks won't ever see, and for this patch at least will have a much better time with a DK or a Warden.
I hope you'll have a website or more guides, or that there'll be some "merger" of you guys, that'll result in clarified & accessible knowledge from beginning to end-game.

Thank you for your hard work put into this video and into this game! I want to say as someone who started tanking with a nord dk and later once necro was released and I got some tanking time under them I invested 100% into it and even turned my Nord dk into a pvp toon because I couldn’t compete with my own toon in content that others said ONLY a dk tank was to be used. I couldn’t tell you how many HMs I’ve saved from wiping with necro vs any other tank class that I’ve used before in the past. I do run my necro a lot different then I’d say 90-95% that put out guides. Just for a minor example I’ve been told running x7 divines on a tank that has 70k health is a waste and I’m a bad tank, yet I have more hm clears then basically anyone that’s told me that. Granted I’ve been on break from ESO for about 4 months now, watching your content has only educated and “reinforced” the way I’ve been running things. So again thank you very much for your time invested in this subject. It helps break this notion on the misconception of what makes a good tank. Definitely using this for others to help bring them where they need to be!

excellent information. I've long preferred to sit at resistance cap even as so many would insist 25k was enough so I really appreciate seeing the math displayed so much more clearly than I could have. It both helps me understand why I find it more comfortable, and also provides me with a resource I can direct people to.
Although not a competitive tank option, I personally have found templar to be just a little bit easier to handle dots on than the Dragonknight, and am curious if there's something I'm missing about dk. My frame of reference being how long I can survive bahsei hm curse without healers helping me. Although, admittedly, I haven't held bahsei on the templar in two patches

It's about damn time someone has spelled all of this out properly. Thank to Tank Club, I've wasted an enormous amount of transmutes putting sturdy on my gear and I only have one character. Now I get to re-do all of it in Reinforced/Divines. Gotta love it. Thank you for providing accurate information. I understand that there's more than one way to skin a cat and many players benefit from sturdy to help them sustain in perma-block. I was one of those players that wanted to learn to play properly from the start in proper support sets with proper traits on them. The best way to learn to sustain is to be forced to sustain or die trying.

The one thing i hate about ESO's community is people say "that will never work" because they didn't try it. I have been tanking on my nightblade for over 5 years, when i started everyone said "nightblades can't tank" they would continue to say that even after i proved them wrong. I'm happy to see that the community has moved past that, but i still here "that will never work" way too often about other things.

I've long been frustrated with the Tank Club recommendations and I feel like it's become the tank version of Alcast. Someone who might have one been at the higher end part of the game who now just casually spews out the same stuff he's been doing for years because he won't or can't adjust to the times. And yet it's the most recommended and common entry point for players, despite people like you existing.

I really need to fine-tune and standardize my builds and this kind of data substantiated information is incredibly valuable. Thanks!

  • @Ignitetheflame10

Thank you for this video, I will probably be swapping my big armour pieces to reinforced now. For a long time now I've only used sturdy in a 5/1/1 set up and I don't permablock unless I absolutely have to. The only thing I haven't tanked in the game yet is DSR hm, I've always managed to deal with more incoming damage by simply reapplying puncture when I know I'm going to take a big hit as my master sword and board puts me at resistance cap, applying a hot etc and I've been good so far. One thing I learned is that while there definitely is a meta way of doing things, there are different ways you can set up your toon to cover the weaknesses you're missing. If someone wanted to go all sturdy for example, could you not think of another way they could still be sitting at a base resistance level that you would consider good? For example, them using the lady mundus, being a nord etc?

    • @Hyperioxes

I just saw his video saying puncturing from perfect set is more than enough but I dropped resistance bc dudes are saying u don't need it it's all about block mitigation and trial dummies and stuff don't hit u and on console u don't have dmg dummies to tank. It's just so frustrating I want to be good at my role and actually clear vet dlc dung and eventually get inv to a trial group! Hard to fo when every video is like yeah just buff and use all ur gear and all ur stuff for buffing everyone or ur a bad tank and if you can't clear it with basic stats and im at 380ish cp. Ik rec is 500 but im smart and can adjust. Shouldn't be that crazy that im getting 1 banged by a heavy just any small attack. Sometimes I feel it's the dps not doing enough bc im going through the dungeon holding for hella long they still die they still can't clear ads even when I stack. Sorry just a rant but I'm sure it's why we have a lack of tanks and it's not begginer friendly or build diverse. Every trial guide says run trial gear like no shit thats why I'm looking for a guide smh.

I have a little remark on the calculation used.
I'm not gonna say you're right or wrong, I'm hardly capable of tanking vDSR regular vet myself.
But, you use only resistance in your calculation, but there are also 2 of 4 CP passives that are always used and there is a little bit of armour bonus which is also always present when you go to that level of difficulty.
With just the blue 4 CP passives and armour bonus (I assume 7 pieces) you're already at 25% mitigation.
When I take the 31493 armour you use in your calculation and add that to my "base" mitigation I have 60.6% mitigation
When I take the 33100 armour you use in your calculation and add that to my "base" mitigation I have 62.4% mitigation
The difference here is 1.8% when I include some bonusses you're very likely to have.
The difference in damage taken would be:
    60.6% mitigation gives 39394 damage
    62.6% mitigation gives 37565 damage
    The difference here is 1829
This is slightly less than the 2430 you got at when only using reinforced.
So, in most regular cases where you won't get oneshot through your block (my experience), I'd say, reinforced doesn't make that big of a difference.
But then again, if your life depends on it, take any bit of mitigation out there and make use of it.
My reasoning of "not that much of a difference" comes from that most light attacks are (depending on where you are) 8-25K and heavy attacks between 30K(base dungeons on vet) to.... at least 150K since I have not been able to see how hard things hit for in about any HM trial.
In those cases I have not the data of, I can not say how much things are worth since, well, I do not know.
Again, I'm not saying you do not know what you talk about because having the trifecta there you obviously do know what you talk about, but since I like knowing things behind the scenes I worked out a bit on this.
Please don't take this as a negative feedback.

    • @Hyperioxes
      @Hyperioxes  Год назад +4

The CPs and other sources of mitigation are multiplicative to armor's mitigation, not additive, so the difference you'll notice from adding Reinforced won't be impacted by those. Like in the first example from the video, you'll notice 4.63% damage reduction compared to what damage you were taking without Reinforced no matter how much other mitigation you had before.
Reducing 4% from 25k light attacks can add up, just as I described in the video, you won't have to spend as many GCDs healing/shielding yourself and you can spend more time supporting the group even if you were surviving those attacks just fine

    • @Hyperioxes

b4 u read - i'm not pve player much, so i could "lack some view", but i have some Qs:
    1) why u using 662 pen/res = 1% of mitigation? we for ages using in our pvp calculations straight 660. Like... why extra 2 or how u found it?)
Also... mb ya know mb not but i'll ask here anyway. Target got 18 200 res. let's for the questions sake choose 1% mitigation = 660 res/pen.
As far as I knew pen =( - res) and it's ez as that (i'd be fucking suprised if we got some hidden multipliers here, hope not).
    So assuming everything above - 18 200 = 27,(57)% mit
    Let's imagine i got exactly 27% pen which is 17 820.
    So in the end target got just 18 200 - 17 820 = 380 armour/res.
Question is - will game recognize 0,(57)% of mitigation or not?
Back in CP system 1.0 all after dot additions to stats from CP stars wan't recognized by game. But that's not a CP star tho i can't trust devs kinda to say for sure.
    2) 6:47 - u r showing build on dk with horn and with saxhleel.
Horn (250 Ult) =10 sec of mjF
Saxhleel (250 Ult) = 16,(6) sec of mjF
I've always though outta set description that's just necro support set to spam colossus. Since i've found extra 6,(6) seconds from saxhleel casting Horn (250 ult) now i wanna ask 2 things:
a] are this extra 6,(6) sec are ... so needed? like i think there could be some other support dmg set's with unique bonuses and better time?
b] ... or i misunderstood how set works and it do not rewrites Horns 10 sec by his own 16,(6) sec but summs both 10 sec and 16,(6) sec giving 26,(6) sec in result?

    • @Hyperioxes

      1) When I googled it I found results saying armor cap is 33.1k, you could be right and maybe it's wrong cuz I havent tested it myself but even if it is it's a very small difference. Yes the game recognizes even the smallest differences in armor, it doesn't ignore numbers after comma.
      2) No, Saxhleel works the way you describe it, so if used with Horn at 250 it will last 16 seconds. It was our first day in DSR after a break and the point of the raid was just figuring out the comp (and we figured we're not gonna use DK to main tank Taleria), I was just following the spreadsheet and I guess our raid lead just copied our old setup where we had Necro MT
