  • #Juno-106 model expansion for #Roland #Zenology
    Another Model expansion came out for Zenology. This time it recreates the cool sounds of the Juno-106. Do you remember the Juno-106? Do you know it? In this video, I go back to the original Juno-106 specs to understand it's limits and better understand it's importance in the history of synthesizers. After that i compare the 2 Roland Cloud Juno-106 recreation : the Plugout VS the Model Expansion.

    Thank you for this dude. I love the Juno. We had a Juno in our first ever band, many centuries ago. I still adore the sound of it now.

    Still cracks us up how you say "sint" instead of "synth", love that French Canadian accent! Yet another great video with a ton of great information, thanks again! And how the hell did we just now notice that amazing star wars boba fett helmet! Amazing!

    I've managed to get Zenology lite to run through an arpeggiator in logic (one that generates midi), there is probably a similar one in your DAW. Hope that helps!

    Thanks for yor tutorials. I'm stuck on this, because I don't know how to open this JUNO model window... I use Ableton - in Plugin section I see ZENOLOGY and it opens main Zen-Core window. Please any advice how to open JUNO, JUPITER ?

      In Zenology, go in the presets browser and choose a preset from the Juno model expansion list. It will load in Zenology.

      @@Nu-trix Thank you for advice, it works! So, to create new sound, I have to create new Bank, then select some preset with desired Model, save it in my Bank and then edit it? Is it correct way? (sorry, I'm newby)

    Hi ! Great Channel! … I think you know better than Roland website… by any chance do you know if you can get the Juno zen core and use it with their R-88 keyboard? I am planning do get it and it will be awesome to have this on their 88 key model and save patches in it… thanks !

    For those who want a hardware version of the Juno-type sound (and are not too picky about authenticity) would you recommend the JU-06A or the MC101 using this expansion (when it the expansion is supported)?

    • @Nu-trix
      @Nu-trix  4 года назад +1

      The Ju-06A would be a great buy. The MC101 and MC707 are Zenology compliant. But I don’t know how compatible the model expansions are with the them for now.

    • @Oblique331
      @Oblique331 4 года назад

      Nu-Trix The Synth Guy good answer - but assuming these legendary expansion models soon become “MC” compatible, isn’t the MC 101 Four tracks of Roland goodness all ready for live performance? We could have Juno, sh-101 and 909 drums in 1 device all controlled by external midi for example

    • @Nu-trix
      @Nu-trix  4 года назад +1

      The model expansions are using Zenology are compatible with some of the new Roland hardware like the MC101. Some of the legendary plugin are plugout versions, made to be loaded into plugout hardwares (system-8, system-1 and system 1m.) the MC101 cannot load them.. check out this interview for more about the zen universe of Roland : ruclips.net/video/NornAY--mPw/видео.html

      As of now the mc 101 and 707 do not support these models. The 101 has more functionality overall but don't expect to get these models ( if and when) for free. It'll probably cost you 150 euro per model as listed on the Roland Cloud. So you should factor that in in the total price.
      The Zenology 106 model sounds ok. The boutique JU-06A sounds somewhat more authentic and gives you both the Juno 106 ánd the Juno 60 for around 400 euro.

    I don't think it's a big deal that the Zenology model expansions don't have an integrated arpegiator as in most DAW you can add one as a MIDI effect. And most time those arpegiators have more option than what is usually integrated in a synth.

    • @Nu-trix
      @Nu-trix  4 года назад

      You are right. And I think that is why they did not include it. But for the purists it will be seems as a flaw.

      @@Nu-trix The original Juno-106 also did not have an arpeggiator. Only the Juno 6 and 60 had one.

    I have Zenology Pro version and I downloaded the Juno106. I can open it and play it but I don't show like the new thing as looked in 11:45. Also when I open the soundbank I only see zencore sound and not Juno106 or D50. How do I get this?

    How do you even use zenology? I got the roland cloud manager and installed it, but I can't find it on my computer, it shows up in installed programs but I can't see a folder with the vst or anything to launch? It's really confusing...

    • @Nu-trix
      @Nu-trix  4 года назад

      In the Roland Cloud, go in the library. You should see all the possible installers. Select which one you want. After the install is completed, open your favorite DAW. It should be listed in it. Their is no stand alone version on the plugins.

      @@Nu-trix Thanks for the quick reply, I have installed it, and opened Ableton live 10, and it's not there, but I would have thought it wouldn't show up since the Zenology vst is not pointing to my Ableton plugin's folder.

      I’m on MAC, but anyway, in the Ableton Live préférences, you should have a section called plug-ins. You can re-scab for plug-ins and you can select where the VST folder is.

    The Zen version should called something else, like Juno 106v2 or 107 as they are very different particularly in functionality. I'm not saying one is better as they both have their uses.

    I done a similar test, after 10 or so back to back comparisons I uninstalled Zenology, it sounds lifeless, flat, dead vs the cloud 106 and jup 8.

    • @renimcdonaldhill589
      @renimcdonaldhill589 3 года назад

      Also I'd suggest stacking up 3 or 4 presets in a mix and then compare, things get real muddy and undefined in zenology real quick compared to a stacked 106. I wish the guys at cloud would concentrate more on new legendary releases like a jp8000 instead of this crap.

      @@renimcdonaldhill589 I discovered the same when i compared the same sounds on the Zenology Pro with my MV-1.
      What i found out was that they used alot of Release on the Amp Envelope to Compensate for the lack of Built in Reverb on Zenology Pro which made the sound Washed out and made it loose punch And it's place in the mix when more than one instance where used.
      Once i dialed back the Release and added a Reverb the sound got tighter and punchy like on the MV-1 and made them sound the same.
      Now we finally have Built in Reverb in Zen Pro 2 but i am not sure if Roland have Corected all the sounds that uses high Amp Release so that is something you might still look out for if something sounds off.
