Stock 1991 Acura NSX - One Take

  • This relatively low-mileage 1991 Acura NSX is somewhat unique in that it's completely stock aside from its brake pads and tires. This car must have turned the sports car world on its head in 1991 because even today, 24 years later, it drives absolutely magnificent.

      For the advertisement you put in prior to the drive? If so, RUclips is getting a bit ridiculous.

    • @TheSmokingTire
      @TheSmokingTire  8 лет назад +34

      not for the ad itself, which is fine. It was because the ad used "advertiser supplied footage." Basically it was too professional looking of an ad. If i'm going to do native ads they have to be fairly ghetto looking and consist of footage created entirely by me, according to ToS.

    This guy is one of the best guests you've had, asking you questions about your own impressions vs similar era Skyline, telling you about his mods and philosophy, and not looking like he was shitting himself the whole time that someone else was driving.
    Wasn't surprised to find out he has his own channel.

    Was delighted to see how calm they both were throughout the drive. It was a relaxed conversation between two guys who really have a passion for their cars and the interviewer is such a fluid driver. My granddad used to own one and my mom told me stories of them cornering at 135 mph, led me here :)

    For reference Jeremy Clarkson did a 1:57.0 at Laguna Seca in a stock second gen NSX. Obviously the tires and brakes helped this guys lap time, but that's still an impressive time.

    I was able to realize the dream of my teenage years and get a nearly identical NSX myself about a year ago. One owner car with 47k mi. I agree with most of the things said in the video. Taking the interior apart to fix the CCU and radio isn't that big of a job and everything goes back together well. On the track the car understeers quite a bit at the limit and rolls excessively all of which could be easily fixed with a set of spring, bars, and dampers. I plan to keep the car totally stock. It's my favorite car to drive in the rain because of the low Cg and excellent rear traction. It's a great to drive on the road.

      I was recently asked if I won the lottery what cars would I buy first and I honestly answered an S2k then NSX then a EP2 Civic Type R then to finish it off a imported FD2 in white with white wheels. I never even thought how much I loved Hondas until I was asked that question though. I mean the latest Civic Type R would probably have to be bought, but I still don't really think of that as a Honda...it's just my favourite of the current hot hatches and I see huge power upgrades being viable a few years down the line.

    Only thing I didn't like about these early NSXes were their wheels. They seemed a little out of character with the rest of the car. Everything else is great as is. (Also Direzza ZIIs are great, one of the few 200tw tires that actually can last the stated length, I have the Star Spec versions on my Fiesta ST and they're great.)

    • @BESIMXCARS
      @BESIMXCARS 8 лет назад

      I love my ZII's so far, I bought them for the life everyone states they have. I really didn't want to buy a set of 200tw tires that wear out halfway through a season.

    • @rfouR_4
      @rfouR_4 8 лет назад

      ***** yeah because of AutoX tons of 200tw tires that are totally bullshit. Basically R compounds with more grooves. ZIIs indeed aren't like that. And the star specs improved on that tread wear and offered improved performance and faster coming to temp. Brilliant for a daily driver.

    • @rfouR_4
      @rfouR_4 8 лет назад

      ***** Except the ZIIs are in a category above the PSS in terms of performance. Don't get me wrong, yes the PSS are great on certain cars, but they offer too soft of a sidewall IMHO for a car of this nature, and they're not as quick around a track. As it seems he takes this NSX on given the icon picture of the video (looks like Laguna Seca). The PSS are the BEST ~300tw tire, but the Dunlop Direzza ZII Star Spec are essentially the Pilot Super Sports of the ~200tw extreme summer class (outside of the tires like the RE71R and V720 that are falsely advertised). They're close to the Pilot Cup 2s than the PSS.

    I have never seen a NSX before in person. I love that they are so rare. I appreciate people who love their extremely common Mustangs and Corvettes, but when it comes to these cars or Supras, man... Makes my head turn.

    Wow this is an awesome car! maybe I should do some car reviews on my channel since I live in Australia and have access to all types of JDM vehicles. didn't mean to make you jealous ;)

      Nah mate, they have better JDM cars in New Zealand with their unrestricted (more or less) imports. :)

      Australia has the exact same laws haha + next year we're passing a law that will allow us to import new cars from japan. That means we will have access to 2JZ sedans etc. I can't wait

      ***** I wish, otherwise I would have an FD2 Civic Type R. It's not allowed for import in Australia, whilst they are (relatively) plentiful in NZ... Same goes for other cars like GC8 STi RA (the rally Group N models with all the good bits like quick steering rack and DCCD, even the roof vent!), STi Spec C etc. Accord Type R and Accord Euro R can be registered in NZ, whilst they aren't allowed for import/registration in Australia too.

    I'd love to see a stock 90 nsx vs a stock 90s 300zx

  • @Clesarie
    @Clesarie 8 лет назад

    NSX are really timeless cars however, I think 300whp is where I find is the limits of good daily and reliability. I'd mod the car but nothing serious and nothing that can't be returned to stock. A full exhaust, upgrade all the bushsings and look for anywhere to lose weight. I think thats the most i'd ever do to an nsx.

    You could keep it stock, but if you do want to mod it without supercharges and all forced induction and keep it NA, go ITB setup with aftermarket ecu, it's already got titanium internals so it would be sweet, plus it would rev higher and go much nicer, high flow exhaust would also make it scream, though these are still expensive from Toda etc. but you could always revert it back to stock configuration. Def one on my list of to get, looking for a 92-93 R the original R almost impossible to find !
