Hello and great questions! The rx100 has great video quality, but not the same depth of field control as the larger sensor cameras. I don't have a current version of FCPX, so I'm not sure if the videos will import directly. I also don't have that much expertise on spotting Aliasing and Moire in comparison to other sensors/ cameras. You do get full 1080/60p HD plus killer IS technology: Active Mode, Optical type with electronic compensation (Anti-rolling). I hope that helps, Jay
Turn around is so variable with Sony it's hard to say. Quality is there for sure though, but I hear a RX200 may be on the horizon?? The Lumix DMC-LX7 looks pretty awesome as well!!
Depends how much zoom you really need?? Low light wise, yes it';s great for concerts for a point and shot in my opinion., although zoom is going to be an issue depending on distance.
That is a great question. This camera will do the job, but a faster lens would be better for low light at a concert. How far are we talking? The RX100 has the best video quality for low light shooting, but doesn't have the most zoom.
Sorry for the delayed reply!! Better off asking questions on the website for a faster response ;) In any event the 18-200mm lenses are all pretty good, but not as good in my opinion as have the kit and the 55-210m seperate. You lose something with the all-in-one convince. The New Sony 18-200mm is almost identical to the tamron version!!
I still have my other "special" lenses (I'm not a pro shooter so these lenses are special to my taste already). :-) I have these in my bag...16mm f/2.8, the 50mm 1.8 and the fisheye converter. Always a pleasure watching your videos. Thanks a bunch!!
Hi Jay! Nice demo of the the RX100. That thing is pretty powerful as you said. I might get me one pretty soon. I see you're using the new e-mount 18-200 lens. How is that lens? Have you done any comparison between that lens and the old 18-200? Or, between the new 18-200 and the old 55-210 (which is what i've been using since your last recommendation to me. I have the Nex 7 with the stock 18-55 lens + the 55-210). I want to see if I could go back to just having an all around, walkaround lens.
Hey Jay, What do you think about the 60p full HD compared to the Canon 720 mas 60p either the 7D or 5DIII? Now that there are several options for ND filters for this little guy, I am about to buy one. Also do you know if the native files are recognized by FCPX or to they have to be converted first by a separate program...I have the 5DII and 7D and use the 7D just for 60p usually, Would be nice to use this instead plus I should get full HD, right? Aliasing and Moire? How is it? Thanks for any inf
Nice camera but it does make me wonder how much bigger a fixed lens NEX would be (i.e. larger sensor). The other thing is the menu system on the RX100 looks much nicer than the NEX - wish Sony would standardise on this one.
Hello i want to buy this camera but in specifications it is written it has very little zoom capacity.Does this camera really has only 3x Optical zoom? Even the local ordinary cameras in supermarkets have now at least 12x Optical zoom. Is it really bad when it comes to zoom? thanks
Kafir Shikari Yeah, the optical zoom is not very much on this particular camera, because the sensor is huge. The cameras you are talking about have tiny sensors in them. If you want more zoom for the same size camera, the Cyber-shot HX90v looks pretty awesome. The sensor is much smaller than the RX100, but you much more zoom: www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1137175-REG/sony_dschx90v_b_cyber_shot_dsc_hx90v_digital_camera.html/BI/7257/KBID/7777/DFF/d10-v21-t1-x622917
Hi Jay, can you confirm that AF is significantly faster with aperture 1.8 than with a higher aperture value like 5.6 or 11 (without zoom)? I noticed this using a rx100 with firmware 1.1. I wonder if this was the same with firmware 1.0?
Tirolekafi Yes the AF is much faster as the lens gets faster depending on zoom and aperture. The aperture changes as you zoom out and the AF will lose speed due to less light... Jay

What camera would you recommend, for recording a area of low lighting. and zooming from a somewhat far distance.

Jay,
I've learned so much from your videos and really enjoy you. Learning a lot about my new RX100ii. Thank you.
nkhmd Thank you very much for the comments! Glad I could help you get going a bit with your awesome pocket able camera ;)

any idea/rumours on future sony models ? i just want to make sure this model stays at top for quite sometime before i spend my money on it !
It' up on my website!!
Thanks Gary!

Loving Elmo in the back ground.
Great camera, u need to make a full review !
What about AF in video mode?
Can you explain exactly how to turn on Clear Image Zoom?

Yes, it totally!!
how is the camera is it worth
Yes!!
Huh? Sorry, not sure what your referring to.
Is this good for concerts
can you disable the digital zoom
No clear image zoom with video .... Only stills?
I had a flashing "E9501" on the screen of my RX 100, and it would not let me do anything. anybody know what this means?
That does not sound god. I would call Sony on that for sure. Try taking the battery out and memory card of course first ;) Jay
Thanks for the feed back, I did both and it still did it. So I sent it off to Sony to fix it.
I bought one about 2 weeks ago...my DSLR is sitting in it's case!
