I don't know why he chose to go to a school with a really good incumbent QB in the first place. Unless he wanted to sit on the bench for a while. And now he's just doubling down on that decision. But Archie managed his sons pretty well. If he's cool with this then I've gotta respect that.

He really doesn’t gain much playing as freshman, still in the development phase, just a huge injury risk with little to no reward. If he gets injured as a freshman and it causes a recurring injuring, hurts the long term draft stock

That's generally what I hear coming from them (and coaches, announcers, etc). But to your point, there are players who have skipped bowl games at the end of their college careers. I guess there's no reason why Arch couldn't do the same thing at the start. Especially if he's listening to his more experienced family members. Or maybe he's just not as passionate about football and allows logic to take over. Who knows. Point is, you might be right.

Everyone immediately went to Calebs side bc he was electric and played really well and exploded on the scene. I really like your take on this situation ! I am a Bama fan and my wife and I have watched Bryce Young suffer through his rookie season. I agree with your assessment of what has happened to Bryce this season. However the NFL , unlike the College ranks where you enter the transfer portal and go to another school, you are under contract to stick out for whatever the contract conditions where. I am pretty sure Arch's family is helping him with his decisions, who would know better then them! I believe Brian Kelly would love to have Arch on his team. We will see ,who know Ewers could get hurt next season ,we would hope not but football is a brutal sport and the players are an eye lash away from injury.

Next season, Manning will be the number two. That is pretty much guaranteed. Anything beyond that, honestly, will all come down to Ewers. Now fast forward to this time next year. What happens if Ewers decides to actually play his senior season? That is where the only issue I see is. I can't see Manning agreeing to waste 3 seasons on the bench. I can't see Texas allowing Manning to ride the bench. But this is college football and really strange things happen every week.

Riley didn't recruit Baker or Murry who both came to Oklahoma on their own. He did recruit Rattler and we see how that has gone. Riley was a great play caller before he became head coach but he has NEVER done both really well. As far as him being some qb whisperer he was just in the right place at the right time. His time as SC won't be long because he is not a great HC. It take coaches 5 years to get their team in place and his 5th year at Oklahoma was a disaster as will his 5th year at SC.

Regardless of the situation, playing football will allow you to grow greater in its capacity than simply just practicing. The only advantage to being a back up is learning all of the backend intricacies of football which, unfortunately if you’re a full-time starter in high school a lot of times you don’t get any of that knowledge so it’s a double edge sword it always comes down to what the kid ones but I would always recommend playing over not playing.

I’m on the fence about the new transfer rules. It’s hard to assess an athlete when he doesn’t have to compete for his job. If Archie can’t win the starting QB job there’s a reason why. Joe Burrow is one of the few who got to showcase himself with the season he put together. Most transfers end up like DJ Uiagalelei or Spencer Rattler.
