- Hello and welcome to Basic Fishing from New Zealand. For this video, I decided to do a tutorial video on how to target different baitfish whether it is a yellow eyed mullet, piper, jack mackerel, pilchard, anchovy and slimy blue mackerel. Hope this video will help people out there on how to target these bait fish and remember to check out my other tutorial videos too.

Thanks
Great video man! Go slay em
thank you for watching
Great video very informative. I have caught a few good jack macks on sabiki with no bait. They seem to be around in larger numbers in the warmer months
thanks man omg its so fun wen u jig the sabiki up and down and suddenly you feel some tension and pull out a good haul
@@BasicFishingNZ best I've done is 5 anchovies at once. Hahaha. Never had lots of good Mackie's on at once. I need to try find where the live baits hide in the boat
I’m heading to New Zealand ag the end of the year! Hope to catch my first trout there 🤘
well good luck when you do get to come here. lets just hope after the virus dies off we can go fishing freely everywhere
very good 👍👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Great info mate. Love to throw a line with you one day. But so so sad that now Mangere bridge is now getting dismantled 😢😢
thank you for watching. yea i drive pass the bridge and see the work slowly getting down
Saludo compañero buena pesca no paras de sacar pescado eso es bueno acuérdate los pequeños al agua pero grande a comer 👏👍🤘
Yummy my bro😆👌 Nice.😆
Those bait fish taste better than the target fish, love me some horse mackerel. My god man all those are delicious to eat.
haha not to mention they r easy to catch on the sabiki
Really helpful video. What are your thoughts on parore
great fish to target and fun on light tackle
We pretty much exclusively use sabikis jigging only eh. Cause bait ya get baby snapper all the time. But sometimes ya do need to start off with bait 👌.
i caught a few snappers before without baiting the sabiki and i just left the sabiki without working it too. sadly didn't get it on video as that day i was just relaxing
some good tips there for the newer fisho's. I will check out your Berley making video sometime. Are you able to get out fishing now after the full isolation lockdown that you had there?
after level 4 ended we were allowed to fish but it has to be local and landbased. haven't had a chance yet but hoping that i'll be able to get some fish b4 the winter comes
Wicked homemade berley bruf
cheers man haha always take those berley wen im off the wharf
U been fishing down Mangere bridge yacht club this week, Anything around at the mo?
haven't fished yet this week sadly.... and doubt i'll find time to fish anytime soon.... :(
Can you still fish off warf on onehunga bridge?
sadly no. i was using the good old footages b4 the closure
Hey I’ve found an awesome spot where I can draw in thousands of bait fish swarming, but I have trouble actually catching. I’ve been putting small bits of bread on the hooks and they smash the bread within seconds but I can’t hook them.
I’ve even tried using smaller hooks called mosquito hooks but even with those I have trouble actually hooking one.
I mean I get the odd one but considering there are thousands and the number of hits I get on the bait it’s a terribly low number that I can actually hook.
Over the whole day fishing I manage to get around 5 bait fish yet there are thousands swarming and they are all hitting my bread bait. Lots and lots of bites but I can’t hookem.
What am I doing wrong any tips would be cool :)
Should I maybe be using bigger hooks?
At first I wasn’t getting anything but as I used smaller and smaller hooks I gradually started catching.
But it seems even with the smallest size hooks I can’t catch consistently.
how big were the baitfish? and what species? plus how deep were u fishing approx?
one solution could b to try and use a sabiki rig at its smallest setting and jig it up and down with no bait in a berley cloud.
Where is this
ranges from the far north to auckland mate
