People that put thumbs down are just insane. Insanely dumb how could you do that he puts so much effort into his vids and look how early it is and he is putting in all this hard work. I give you a prare my prare is for you to have 1million subscribers one day❤️
I was smiling ear to ear. So happy for you! Props to those other guys. So many fishman I have come across are so nice to deal with. Haven't come across any arseholes yet lol. Nice work!
Yeowwww budddy. He gave you the full run around. Always a bit of panic in moments like that, but those legends came to the rescue in your moment of need ! Not too surprising there was a kingfish in amongst all those anchovies. They definitely will eat them like you saw. Excellent catch on such light gear. Thank the fishing gods his first run was away from the wharf ! Proud of you bro
thanks man haha yea definately gave me a run around for sure and those guys really did make a huge differences being there! gave them all of my livebaits for their help. yea i was expecting the kingfish to bust me off anytime and in the last minute when he surfaced, he tried to get around the ladder but luckily the dude was done there already and got the line.
i was expecting an oversized kahawai or an eagle ray XD but man wen i saw the green tail lol plus the last time i made a guess i made myself look silly XD
Nice size king for your 1st king off the wharf:) a gaff would help when landing them to hope you bled your kingfish:) I needa try some wharf fishing havnt done much in years to busy tryna get kings and big snapper off the rocks:) your channel is good to watch see how much of a buzz can be had keeping it simple:)
Nice one brother! On 20lb 40lb +small hook. Lucky not much foul ground. I haven't caught king yet.. Much harder here in Wellington has somuch reef. I sometimes travel for fishing up n dwn North mainly Thames for snapper when welly season is out.
Well done bud, so excited haha. What a great bunch of guys helping you, everyone showing respect and getting out of the way and winding in potential tangled lines. Maybe time to invest in a extending gaffe. Try liveys off the land so you can land them way easier. If the kingies are at the wharf they are also around the rocks. Upgrade your kg line though to around 15-20 kg high abrasion mono. Personally I recommend 20kg as shells on rocks are your common cause of break offs.🤙
oh yes those guys were great. not to mention pros too. i prefer using a landing net in case the kingfish is too and my other setup has 40lb line but so far no luck on it
Was that today ? Awesome Peter Congratulations. I have seen one caught off there that was 98 cm last year. I hope to see you there one day would be nice to meet you and gets some fishing tips lol.
thank you for watching. this was way before lvl 4 so it was during the warmer months. definately land to fish there again haha but not in busy periods thats for sure lol
Yo what an epic catch Peter!! Intense fight as well, I was nervous the whole time of it falling off or cutting you off. Good to finally see that off your list. Was worth the long wait for this vid to come out
haha cheers kenny. yea i was like 'any minute now' XD for the king to bust me off lol yea gr8 to finally tick off landing the legal kingfish off the wharf. now just gotta get some more on livebait haha such hard work though live baiting!
@@BasicFishingNZ Yea lmao sometimes catching the livebait seems to be the most difficult part! time to get into stickbaiting. I tried off the rocks at Duder Peninsula last weekend with a few live kahawai out under balloons but had no luck with the kingfish; but did get a few kahawai off the bank by casting lures out at an anchovy workup.
yesterday wen i was winding in my rig, a kingfish chased the sinker thinking it was a fleeing baitfish XD kinda annoyed i didnt had a popper but at that point i was exhausted from working hard and hardly any fish action
around the manuka u harbour. wasn't big but there were many of them hammering the small mullets in the shallow was really cool to see during the setting sun
Congratulations Sir, my entire family watched this video and we enjoyed it. You should launch your own TV channel mate. I hope to catch one someday. Once again, well done and may you excel in fishing, go for a marlin next time bro!
Well done I love this video ,awesome fish but even better how awesome and supportive the other fishos were, every1 got in together as a team the help land that , the kiwi way 🤙
Anchovies, as you personally experienced, are one of the ocean’s premiere baitfish; super oily, salty, loads of nutrition for the bigger fish. If you disrupt any scales while handling, it’s a turnoff for the bigger fish. Just don't brain hook them. Use small Owner modified circle hooks and you’ll never straighten a hook, and you’ll always lop hook your fish. Repeat: anchovies are great baitfish. Anchovies are great baitfish. Say to yourself once or twice.
just any rig but running rig seems to b good. bait wise i would use something like a mullet since the pickers can b too much (Sorry for late reply hope ur trip went gr8)
@@BasicFishingNZ went awesome cought a live jack and used him for bait to catch a kingi and ended up catching a under size one still it was a hard fight
Next time go to magazine bay we were having kahawai splashing on the beach I hooked up on 3 king fish on only landed one tho 120.9cm all the bait fish have moved in
Awesome video! Im new to fishing in Auckland, looking to catch my first snapper...been out a few times already but have had no luck... are there any spots you recommend catching some fish? Got rock fishing rods and a 14ft surfcaster too
i would suggest keep trying at ur spot. i've persisted in my own local spot for many years until i was able to learn new tactics and methods on catching fish instead of going all over the place. a good tip would b to berley at ur spot to bring in the fish
nice one mate, massive kingi at waitawa wharf, I always fishing that spot on my kayak and also I do some casting at the wharf. hope to see you mate, keep it up stay safe
@@BasicFishingNZ your videos are a great help too. I've just recently started fishing and have been watching a lot of your videos for tips. So far I've caught kahawai and John Dory, but I really want to get a kingfish
Nice fishing. You should use heavier gear live baiting off the wharf 50pound or 80 pound with 100pound or slightly more leader. Especially with that height you are from the water can put alot more pressure on the fish:)
Congrats bro! always fun to fish at waitawa. I've never seen it empty in the mornings. There's always a line of fishos even at the gate. what day did you go?
Bro, those other guys were legends too, especially the dude that 'gaffed' your fish for you. All real calm and helpful... makes a massive difference
Couldn't agree more!
The joy is priceless, happy for you happy chappy
Big thanks for helping me learn how to fish :) loved the kingfish catch
cheers for watching!
Why would someone put a thumbs down ? I love your fishing trips and videos , I think they must be jealous ha ha.
What impressed me are those fishing mates around. All very nice helpful that’s better than the 🐟. Good kiwi 🥝

Yeah that is a good idea maybee have one just in case you get a clearly leagle one:) do you only fish in auckland area?:)
Where was this? Also Peter you are the best fisherman I have ever watched on RUclips. Trust me I have watched hundreds however your videos glue me

Love the fishing videos. Was the gate and road open as wasn’t over lvl3 they where working on the road just above the toilets ?

both alive or dead haha
good job on the kingi mate very lucky on the small hook and tackle aye
thanks for watching recurve hooks do the best jobs!
What line do you use for your kingfish setup
usually i prefer using 45lb mono and a heavy duty setup with 12000 baitrunner reel and a 30lb - 50lb rod
Great catch mate!! All that effort paid off!
Awesome bro 👏 😎
Awesome catch mate 👏 keep the videos coming
Best reaction😂👍

a ledger rig with a long trace

Are you using circle hooks mate?
yes KLT hooks are recurve hooks which is pretty much the same thing

if i'm really targetting them from a slide bait to a running rig
