    • @BasicFishingNZ
      @BasicFishingNZ  2 года назад +1

      i would say 5oz sinker. to play it safe i usually use small bait(half strip of mullet etc) and a running rig to prevent overloading the rod during the cast

    If you were on a budget and had to choose between having a cheaper fibreglass rod but a good surf reel with a longcast spool or having a quality graphite rod with a standard reel what one would get a better casting distance? cheers

    • @BasicFishingNZ
      @BasicFishingNZ  Год назад +1

      thats a really good question. i had done both b4 in the past but maybe i would go with a cheaper fibreglass rod and good surf reel. at least the reel will b good enough till you decided to upgrade the rod in the future

    I use PVC pipe for rod holder I drilled 3 holes and slide a bolt through so i can adjust the depth at what my rod sits at in the pipe. 👌 also I engraved measurements down side of the pipe for fast measurements of fish caught no need to mess around with a measure mat bro

    Hey man love the vids! I'm relatively new to fishing and thinking of buying my first surfcaster for Wellington Harbor, this is what I'm planning on getting, Its the PENN Pursuit III 8000 spin surfcaster combo (I cant insert link as YT keeps removing my comment, you should be able to find it on Marine Deals) I'm also going to spool it with 300m of 30lb braid, a 40lb shock leader and a 4 oz sinker. Is this setup good? Is there anything you would change? Thanks. Its a relatively cheap setup as I don't really want to commit to a expensive one yet.

    • @BasicFishingNZ
      @BasicFishingNZ  Год назад

      i would say thats a gr8 beginners starting point the combo. with 40lb shockleader u could get away using a 5oz if ur confident with ur casting ability.

    • @BasicFishingNZ

      usually 50lb for the trace and shockleader i try to match the same weight.

  • @J27M
    @J27M 2 года назад

    I don't like braid because of wind knots... That being said I've only. Used cheap braid and a composite black magic type that was black and white.
    I'm going to give black magic hyperglide 13x though. If I get my fg knot perfect and still get knots I will quit it altogether because I would rather have the reliability of 15lb- 50lb mono.

    • @BasicFishingNZ
      @BasicFishingNZ  2 года назад

      the wind knots r a pain i will admit that especially wen they have line twists but when applied properly, it makes a world of differences for sure. a good advice i would recommend would b to avoid over spooling and wet your braid on ur spool before casting to make it 'sticky'

    Over here you will never see someone with only a rod spike, we use a belt with a recess for the rod's but. EVERYBODY has one, I still have an old oil leather one that belonged to my father, but you get them in all kinds of poymers now... I would hate the butt of a 13ft rod digging into my hip or stomach.

    hi mate can have an idea about choosing rod about action and power need for surf casting for beginner angler.thanks in advance.

    • @BasicFishingNZ
      @BasicFishingNZ  3 года назад +1

      i would recommend going to a store and feel the rod itself. give it a flick and see the action. also be considerate about the size and weight of the rod. if it is light weight and thin it means its a graphite/carbon but its thick and heavy its fibreglass. think the vortex surf rod is a good beginner rod to use

    안녕하세요 락다운 동안도 낚시 하시나요? Veritas now have new model you might want to check out. It's lot slimmer. The adjustable reel seat is I think is more of UK rod design that's been adopted as many surf fisherman use overhead reel and they prefer their reel down. I really like your content it's really helpful and I enjoy watching your shows. Hope to see you on the field.

      @@BasicFishingNZ ya I am getting sick of lockdown too. Check out those new veritas 4.0. keep in contact let's jam up for a session out west in your back yard. By the way how do you find using dingle dangle? Way I see it only will work on big fish that will eat it in one bite. Doesn't seem to work when there are too many small snapper around.

    • @BasicFishingNZ
      @BasicFishingNZ  3 года назад

      i do use it but so far no luck on the snapper yet. did land kahawai with them no problem. been using the smaller danglers to try my luck. i've seen the new design, definitely changed from its white and black design

    • @shinheeyi
      @shinheeyi 3 года назад

      @@BasicFishingNZ ya for me results was same. Kahawai will take it no problem they tend to swallow big chunk. They do have dingle dangle which is just wire and a loop on each end this works well with half philli. Give it a try.

    • @BasicFishingNZ
      @BasicFishingNZ  3 года назад

      i made my own using thick braid with solid ring before. not as good as the premade ones but still a good alternative. i might want to get a bait needle to sew the dangle through instead of spliting the bait in half

    • @BasicFishingNZ
      @BasicFishingNZ  3 года назад

      personally a mesh glove is more ideal: garden gloves and slimy fish don't mix well together although personally i don't bother with gloves. i do use pliers but after my close encounter with the shark, i use more of the hook remover tool

    • @timdoyle9981
      @timdoyle9981 Год назад

      I've pulled a couple apart some won't come apart simply due to the square reel shaft becoming seized in the main gear (anissue I don't have with hex shafts and wind on handles) it's a single shaft worm drive and the other end of the worm carrier runs directly on the reel casing ie no roler bearing like the compact tica model's so eventually it will wear on the body of the reel and the worm drive will become slack and wear out faster than others. The only reason it handled being doused in salt water is because it has nylon bushes instead of ball bearings.
