Great info, Dan! I really like the shield analogy. Especially if the balm has beeswax, which most of them do...the oil would literally have no place to go. So lots of shine...but that’s about it. As far as butter goes, it’s totally made a difference for me..game changer!

If you would have put “Butta not” after “easy there killer” I would have had a heart attack laughing and retired my lame jokes I randomly sprinkle in your comment section haha You did have me off guard and I deff LOL’d in real life haha
Thank you for this video. I am entering into the world of beard products literally today. Until today, I have used a hair conditioner. One of the things I learned is that putting the conditioner on after one has washed and rinse the soap is virtually in effective. Apparently the hair is saturated and so not absorbing the conditioner. So, I let the beard dry completely. What I do is put on a good amount of conditioner on a completely dry beard and then sit down and read a book or watch something on TV working the conditioner into the beer for 30 to 45 minutes with one hand. Then rinse it out and towel dry it and comment neat. And the beard becomes almost silky smooth. This is not treating the skin, of course. But I found that using conditioner after washing it, on a wet beard, was a complete waste of money. And I found that putting the conditioner on for maybe five minutes was not long enough. I have a cousin, female, who said the same thing when I told her, that she leaves the conditioner on her hair for a long time.
@@t_beardedstrickland3900 apply jelly or mojo just like it is oil (to the skin and evenly throughout the hair), but then no product after. Jelly/Mojo should ride solo
@@DanCBearded if I may ask DanC, when the butter contains beeswax in the ingredient; do you still use the same process? If so, do you think their might be a chance of a side effect for a thick coarse beard in the long run? I only have a 10min window to actually comb my beard after talking a shower while it's still damp using luxurious big wide wooden comb, P.S I do use a co wash daily :/ with that said, the idea of beeswax build up from the butter in the long run always prevent me from trying one, what's your thoughts brotha? Started using B.O Downshift butta recently, pure awesomeness.. the trusted teacher recommendations on point 👌

I've had a beard for decades but just let it do its own thing. Now I'm trying to make it look more professional and less homeless/biker gang so this video is very helpful. Ive been using specialized beard wash and oil and I've noticed no difference at all.
Great video. I always do oil, and balm or butter . I use butter if I just cant tame my beard, but otherwise it’s oil then balm, and honest Amish at night. Thanks for the vid! Be well!
Well that's why. I'm a winter beard guy. Start in August ends in April. I've been using oil lathered in my hands then applying to my beard and alot of the time my skin dries out even brushed through. Thank you for the tips. Going to do oil to skin then balm
Acquired a beard kit for Christmas and this video and others of yours will certainly help me get started using it. One question: when do i use beard and face wash in this process?
Yooo Big Dan C this is the first video I've ever watched from you and I fell in love instantly thank you for all the long hard work to figure out the steps we men need to look good as you. Let's go Detroit. I'm at Gibralter resident and now a subscriber
I personally like using coconut oil always cold pressed and started using a bit of Castor with coconut oil fresh after shower damp beard apply oil dress finish 5 minute wait then brush after under brush since beard is nicely spread out and kinda of thin seeming, apply butter. I feel it makes it easier to evenly spread through hair, then brush into style really just back down towards normal look. Then ill either brush into style or use hands to style. Has worked wonders for me I feel great usually get compliments at work not really while just out and about for some reason. And I seek the wind blowing through my beard for the wonderful smells to flow through my nose. One of the absolute best things about being outside.
So I'm new to beard care and have been bopping around to the couple brands that offer free samples, made my first big purchase in the form of butter, but got more oils coming anyway. A lot of what I've read early on is that you can apply oil to a dry beard post-shower and before bed (which is what I've been doing), and then apply balm in the morning (which I do to a point, sometimes I run out of time, sometimes I just forget, sometimes I'm going through oil quicker than balm, etc. and this is just little BadAssBeardCare trials). Anyway, have a sorta cheap boar's hair brush that I use, rub the oil in by hand, wipe hands off, brush well, sleep, wake up, brush again, and apply balm at some point after, then brush it through once more. Now I'm going to a whipped butter from Royal Beardsman, and read up on that being a medium between straight up oil and straight up balm. If the one would replace both, would it be a decent idea to apply a little before bed and then a little more in the morning, or what? I do get showers daily due to living in the south, being fat, and sweating all day, and will use a bit of BABC beard wash when changing scents or if it was an exceptionally sweaty day.
@@DanCBearded Noted. Will have to wait for another paycheck though to get some matching scents in the oil department. That and the beard scrubber, that thing sounds like it's a pretty good tool. As far as style goes, I'm round, so I don't really care for much styling, I do notice the balm helps a lot with wild hairs, so, that's the most amount of justification I'd have for it. Thanks for the quick reply as well on an almost year old video, wasn't expecting that.
I'm finally decided to grow a beard and I needed this to decide whether to get balm or butter and actual explanation of why instead of saying "oh it's just good" thank you!!
I often use straight Jojoba oil,not a blended beard oil then apply beard balm.Seems to do fine.At night been using Jamaican black castor oil because of the thicker consistency
That cleared up a lot. Got a good length beard and the shampoos, oils, and balms, but somehow I still had a dry beard. I wasnt giving the oil any time to soak in lol. Great video man
Was disappointed in the appearance my beard was. I was actually adding balm then oil, because I liked how it looked, but the next day would be wirey and pointing everywhere. Applied how he says and my beard looks great and feels great. Definitely didnt know there was a correct way and a wrong way. Thnx for this video helped me out and saved my beard.
I love this video, I've been trying to preach this to my co workers for last 2 years. I'm 40 working with a bunch of 20 yr old coalminers that want that glorious beard, but don't wanna hydrate properly. So they end up wanting to shave because they feel like its too much work. For me it only adds maybe 10 extra mins per day taking care of my manhood on weekdays. Now weekends spent with the family I spend a lil more hair dryer time to look more appropriate for them. But only at most 15 minutes. Great video my brother, keep on keeping on.!
Absolutely agree! My time is at most 10 minutes and can be quicker when needed. I actually enjoy and look forward to that time, it's almost my stress relief. Loving the products so much helps too
Good video, they should put that advice on all beard products, people would buy all three if they did, some people only buy beard oil thinking that's all they need, i got all three, glad to learn about beard butter i was using it wrong, thanks 👍.
100% agree!!! I have tried both ways balm then oil and oil then balm...no comparison balm then oil made my beard feel greasy. I actually put only oil in around 7 in morning then use matching balm around 10-1030 to freshen the scent and give my beard more style and longer hydration. But for the first part of every day I like to just let my beard breath a little with just oil. This is what works best for me
Great video. I just passed month 2 of growing my new beard(very first beard). I was applying oil first but I didn't wait 5 minutes to apply the balm. This video really helped me out!

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing
Glad to share what I can. Next time I comment, I will proofread my comment.🤪
@ChristopherAlsruhe-si9ff 😂😂
Do you apply butter like oil or more like balm?
Great question! Apply butter like oil. Not trying to style but rather get the nutrition throughout the beard and skin. 👊
@@t_beardedstrickland3900 apply jelly or mojo just like it is oil (to the skin and evenly throughout the hair), but then no product after. Jelly/Mojo should ride solo
@@t_beardedstrickland3900 glad I could help!
Same process with beeswax yes, and no problem in the long run if the beeswax is all natural and fresh!
Great tips. I'm hooked on butters at night because of your videos. Uncle Donnies is the bomb. I didn't know I needed to still apply oil first. Now I do.
Awesome to hear, thanks brotha! That is the truth about Uncle Don 🔥🔥
Thanks for the love, bro. Glad to hear your enjoying my butter at night 🔥🔥
@@uncledonnie9604 is great, need to stock up and get more, even told my Son to try it. Also have Beard Octane Butta. And want to add Detroit Grooming to my arsenal

Had this same problem, but i got my dick stuck in a ceiling fan
@@OpalOmen-OpalOmen mine got stuck in the toaster. Rewatched the video and was able to correct the situation.
Teacher Dan. C,
I just got home and my kids told me your beard oils from royal beards-men just got here. I’m very happy the smells are amazing WOW. Brother. This video help me understand when to use my beard balm.
Thanks again.
That is awesome to hear, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for explaining everything without the run around this is your 2nd vid I’m watching and definitely not the last!
Awesome man! Welcome to the channel and thanks for the feedback
I've had a beard for decades but just let it do its own thing. Now I'm trying to make it look more professional and less homeless/biker gang so this video is very helpful. Ive been using specialized beard wash and oil and I've noticed no difference at all.
Oh that’s awesome! You found the right place 🤝
I'm good to go with oil first then butter. I rarely wear balm and if I do I put it on after the butter.
Awesome!
The video I needed, Thank you brother. I've just started growing from a goat and i needed this help
That’s great to hear!
Great video. I always do oil, and balm or butter . I use butter if I just cant tame my beard, but otherwise it’s oil then balm, and honest Amish at night. Thanks for the vid! Be well!
Thank you!!
Well that's why. I'm a winter beard guy. Start in August ends in April. I've been using oil lathered in my hands then applying to my beard and alot of the time my skin dries out even brushed through. Thank you for the tips. Going to do oil to skin then balm
I hope it helps!
Thanks for the info as my daughter wants me to grow a beard during the coronavirus thinking about keeping it
Thank you! Sorry for the ridiculously late reply. I hope it is going well!
This is good stuff. I use oil and balm in the morning and butter and balm at night
Awesome! I would recommend butter or balm at night, not both. Butter would be my recommendation between the two
Acquired a beard kit for Christmas and this video and others of yours will certainly help me get started using it. One question: when do i use beard and face wash in this process?
First, in the shower
Yooo Big Dan C this is the first video I've ever watched from you and I fell in love instantly thank you for all the long hard work to figure out the steps we men need to look good as you. Let's go Detroit. I'm at Gibralter resident and now a subscriber

I did subscribe thank you!
Hi Dan I use oil in the morning followed by balm but at night before sleep I use coconut oil
Awesome Bill!
honest and simple! love your channel man!
Thank you! I appreciate that 👊
Great info. If been alternating balm and butter between oils. This really explains it better.
Need more oils and butters.
Awesome to hear!!
I put beard oil on at night... then moisturizer (water spray) in morning then beard balm
Cool!
I’ve watched ten or more videos, this one was very well done, informative and helpful.
Thumbs up!
Thank you GVA!
Another quality video. The tip on how to apply balm in an earlier video works amazing too. Thanks again for all the amazing content.
Awesome to hear! Thanks Jim 👊
I'll begin the process in that manner.
Awesome Mitchell!

This was the first video of yours that I watched. 1 and done! You got me hooked to the beard game. Thanks to you and your Fam for all that you do!
I appreciate that!
Mate! really i was looking for this information! you are a legend mate!
Awesome to hear!
Probs the best bearded you tuber MashaAllah 👍🏼
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing man! And yes, the wind through the beard is special
Hey brotha. Oil is always, never replace oil for balm or butter. Oil in the morning, butter at night 👊 balm is for the day, if you want added stylng
@@ZerotheWanderer absolutely brotha! That is what I am here for 👊
I'm finally decided to grow a beard and I needed this to decide whether to get balm or butter and actual explanation of why instead of saying "oh it's just good" thank you!!
Thank you! Sorry for the ridiculously late reply. Are you still growing?
I often use straight Jojoba oil,not a blended beard oil then apply beard balm.Seems to do fine.At night been using Jamaican black castor oil because of the thicker consistency
That's awesome!
Nicely laid out like a lesson plan and informative
Thank you! You know the teacher in me lol
@@DanCBearded best way for a video presentation
@@MrPacheco691 agreed my friend!
That cleared up a lot. Got a good length beard and the shampoos, oils, and balms, but somehow I still had a dry beard. I wasnt giving the oil any time to soak in lol. Great video man
Thank you for the comment! Sorry for the ridiculously late reply
That’s so awesome!!
Great video. I had no idea what each was for and now I do so thanks a lot
I love hearing that! Thank you for the view and hopefully you check out some other videos 👊
So first,wash, partial dry,oil,heated brush,balm
Boom, there it is!
That beard looks good bro..thanks for the tips..
Thank you!
I agree Scott!
I use Emu oil and beard butter at night and Emu oil and balm in the day
Emu is a great oil!
Very very excellent advice quick short and to the point perfect great video Dan
Thank you Michael 🙏
Great job on the order of use 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾Thank you 😊
You’re welcome! Thanks for the comment 🤝
This is what works best for me
That is awesome! Super healthy process for your beard
