  • Abandoned Texaco - Weatherford,TX. According to Kayla, this place has been closed for quite some time. It showed inside especially based on decay. At one point the main building had wood paneling on it like the shed to the right of it. After decay took a toll, it was removed and it revealed the old look of this old gas station.

This place has been closed since the 80's. I was born and raised in Weatherford and the Texaco has never been open. There has been a few people who have tried to fix this place up over the last 30 years but it hasn't happened yet. I hope it will reopen someday!

This is actually my families gas station and it was shut down because the old tanks shifted and started to leak and they wanted close to 1million dollars to correct the issue and shut it down and noone would vuy it because of that until now. Someone bought it early this year and started doin the repairs slash gutting the place because asbestos and then corona hit and they cant afford it just yet but soon will be back up and running

All from individual pumps.Still a 5 pump station with 44,000 gals per month.
Had to order gas every three days. Then in 1977 the "SYSTEM 2000" concept came out conveinance style. This was opened until 2001 0r 2. No matter what anyone says the old products on the shelves like snacks had a best before date of no later than February 2002. In between the barn building and the Texaco was a gate . Behind that gate leaning on the 2nd window down was a old gas pump. I climbed on it and used the broken window as a ladder. Behind the window was the walk in cooler

Wallie, always a pleasure watching you. That Texaco dates back to the early 1950s. It was built as a Texaco. It’s an “ice box” designed by Walter Dorwin Teague. The white paneling with the green stripes is original to the building. It’s porcelain enamel steel, which is why they nicknamed it ice box. They used that color scheme until around 1970. It never had neon. You are right that those were bay doors originally. It would have said “Marfak Lubrication” over the left one and “washing” over the right one in green letters. It would have said Texaco in red letters on the little canopy attached to the building, also original. That’s where the original pump island was. Neat that it stayed with its original brand right to the end. You can Google Teague Texaco to see what it would have looked like. I love that they took the wood paneling off to reveal the porcelain enamel. Note how well the porcelain held up. I hope it gets saved! I’d love to know why they reused an Arco pump in the middle. The one that was regular only had an ARCO star on the bottom.

My Uncle Joe had a gas station identical to this one back in the late 50s - early 60s. I remember it well with it's flip digital pumps and Texaco in red letters over the office door and a red star over each corner of the building. If my memory is correct, the red pump was "Fire Chief" regular grade gas and "Sky Chief" was a gray pump. There was a long hose across the pump island that was a trigger for the "ding ding" bell to tell the attendant there was a customer waiting to be filled. He sold it around 1961 as he also owned a Cities Service (Citgo) station that was also his Diamond Rio truck dealership. Such fond memories!!!

That Texaco station was built before interstate twenty bypassed Weatherford it sets on old Hwy 80 that runs through town. Things change over time a business will come and go. In 1948 Weatherford got a drive in movie I was 3 at the time we also had 3 walk in theaters down town all owned by the same person. I worked at the drive in as a field boy for $8.97 per week after taxes. All that's left of the drive in is The marquee. We had a bowling alley and three skating rinks two miniature golf courses. And more pretty girls then you would normally find in a town this size. I guess that most people love there hometown and I'm no different. If there is a downside to Weatherford it is to close to the DFW metro plex.

this store was closed down because of the store owner was robbed and murdered. and his family was to devastated to do anything else with it. and last i checked his killer was never found. there use a to be a body shop right beside it as well. but when it was open it was an awesome store. the owner was very nice and he had the best ICEE machine in town. me and my dad would stop by there every monday going and coming home from boyscouts.

Where did you hear this lol...my family is all still alive besides my granfather who just passed 6 years ago of natural causes and owned it and was shut down because the tanks leaked and can found found in texas ground water monitoring and is why there are a bunch of legal crap all over the front doors and was going to cost close to 1million to repair everything and been for sale for many years...as long as i can remember but noone wanted to pay that plus property price but after many legal battles we finally got it sold and someone new owns the property and has plans but corona virus put a hold on funding and permits ect for them. Good story though and very interesting
