Fun fact, my dad almost took this plane but instead he decided to do the Louisville airport instead, it saved his life
welp that's unfortunate
How is that a fun fact
😮
Anyone is stupid if they believe this 😂
@@R1An183 no. it actually happened lmao. Whatever you say🤣
Very unusual for the copilot to be lone survivor.
@Vikram Gupta Yes, the co pilot survived but lost his left leg.
I’m from Lexington. Woke up late that morning, I think it was a Saturday or Sunday, and I heard my girlfriend say “Theirs a jet crash at Bluegrass Airport…”. Walked into the room saw the major breaking news coverage on all the major networks, and saw on the screen “Comair 5191 Lex to ATL.” And my heart sunk. My sister uses the early bird connection to Atlanta frequently cause she travelled all the time. Grabbed my phone, called her immediately, and thank God, she answered. She new exactly why I was calling and she answered and first thing out of her mouth was “this is my off weekend… I am home and safe and didn’t travel”. But she has flown that 6am comair to Atlanta many of times…. The tv screen had a live shot from a helicopter and smoke was still bellowing up into the skye af 10:30 am…. Passengers burned to death, just horrible. Lexington was devastated over those 49 lost souls. So many young adults in their 20’s and 30’s… a Newly wed couple was on their way to their honey moon to connect to Atlanta to go to the Caribbean.
😢
Was it on the day when it crashed
😭😭
49 people are dead
The outro: “It’s brighter here” 💃💃💃💃
“Runways weird with no lights” should’ve told them they weren’t on the right runway 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
@heather lynsey. Thank you heather. Couldn’t have said it better myself..
At the moment that was said, they should’ve aborted the takeoff at that second!!! There was absolutely NO excuse for this accident. It didn’t need to happen
Thi incident is so sad
They actually took off from the wrong runway, runway systems and markings were poor 😥
1:05 wrong flight number
Atc: comair 191
Pilot: comair 121
The crew had actually been overworked and were extremely tired the conditions that morning were foggy with and they couldn't see the markings on the taxiway, thats why most new aircraft tell you when your crossing a runway or are approaching one
@@deltaflyer1441 How is that possible when the 737 is from 1967 and the A320 is from 1987?
Seeing how the FAA bungled the 5G rollout concerns 15 years later, not surprising 🙁
@@twiff3rino28 im talking about the system that blairs in your headset as your approaching an active runway during the time of this crash they did not have this

As someone who has flown on regional airliners many times, I agree
This will be the only time I will ever be on one of these videos just 4 hours after it’s been uploaded.
Me too
The one flying the plane was the only survivor. He didn't remember anything about what happened that night. If he had it would have been more than any human could bear. 😥
If you haven't seen any footage of a full video, they took off on the wrong runway. Plus they didn't follow the sterile cockpit rule.
Rip to all who perished 🙏
The runway they were on was several hundred meters SHORTER than what was minimally required for a plane of that weight.
I watched this crash on TheFlightChannel and I am advertising him. His skill in video creation and narration is quite good.
@@sheereenaali8448 yes, I love watching The Flight Channel, Josh Allec Ibay's channel & a few others. I follow so many, I can't keep up sometimes lol but they're all very good.
it was apparently not fit for commercial use
I saw it. The runway was too short for the aircraft’s minimum takeoff distance.
Yeah, similar to Singapore flight 006, they also took off on the wrong runway because of the slow taxi, they didn't complete the turn, ignored the para visual display that they're on runway 05R not 05L and crashed into construction vehicles.
At 2:00, I started screaming, “Abort the takeoff NOW!” No lights on the runway should’ve been a RED FLAG and it didn’t phase them???? NO EXCUSE!!!
I was 4 years old when this happend, I apparently screamed that there was an airplane crash and that it was delta, cause my dad was and still is working delta
I'm a Lexingtonian as well. Lost two friends on this flight. Still can't bear to watch the full documentary.
So sorry for your loss. I’m also from Lexington and one of my coworkers lost his wife on that flight. It just breaks my heart.
In 2008 I googled a former boss only to learn he had died in that crash. It’s 2022 now and it still bothers me.
I saw another media talked an air crash as this air-crash. The media said that the reason of the air crash is airplane enter wrong runway.
Nice video!
I've lived my whole life in Lexington, my house is only about 5 minutes away from this airport. I was in middle school when it happened, I remember the principal talking about it during morning announcements. I didn't know any of the passengers but the whole city was shaken up by this.

@@titan9259 U ignore it but show it to ur dad
@Titan ikr kinda weird
Happy Father's Day to All!!!
The ATC set them on the wrong runaway. and they did not verify the runway, so there was no recalculating the computer take off procedures, such as V1 for the length of the now shorter runway.
The airport is at flaw here with no lights and proper signages. Many pilots complainted about this till this tragedy happened. Worst part, I read that the airport cannot be sued because it belong to the government..
Now I will never board a passenger plane without a Smithsonian camera man.
without? lol

Never get on a flight 191.
I never got on a flight even once XD
Wow I love the plane crash stuff for thing
I love your vids can you make one of boats pls
If that's how far they were only going, I would of just drove. So the runway wasn't marked runway 26? So they took runway 22? Or was it just poor lighting out there to see either runway sign?
Answer: The flight crashed because the runway was too short for takeoff.
They were on the wrong runway. No lights: should have been a clue.
No, they were not focus and talked too much during takeoff, which lead them take off in wrong runway
Look close at the pitch screen there was a pink line above the black line meaning that it wouldnt move
Completely horrifying 😔
My middle school math teacher lost her husband on this flight. It still has a massive impact on the local community
thats a shame

I noticed runway 22 when the pilots were taking off but, how did they not notice the runway too?
They took off on the wrong runway
what episode and season is this?
I live near lexington but I was born in 2013 so I didn’t know until I heard about it
I just realized how we watch plane crashes then there's a happy outro song
0:22 "hopefully you can catch a nap on the way there" - spooky
In the flight recorder after crash you can hear someone from the cockpit screaming in some sort of pain so did only him survive
You can make itavia flight 870?
So sad... I'm watching the RUclips channel cemetery oddities.. and it shows the couple who passed away in this horrible crash, Jon & Scarlett.. they're on their way to there way to there honeymoon 😢
This is similar to Singapore airlines 006
I live in Danville Kentucky and my sister lives in Lexington Kentucky
its so sad that the pilot died😢
A Sad Trivia: This happened in my Birthday number 5 in 27 August of 2006 :(
Wanna ensure your survival, make sure there's always a camera man onboard..And how in God's name do you end up much less be cleared for takeoff on the wrong runway???
old but gold
Now airports put lights in the runway
That is comair 5191 49 dead, 1 survive(first officer), runaway 22 is to short for comair
@ARES It was runway 26 that was too short ARES. 22 was the correct runway.

Shocking and SAD!! 😓💔😓 Was the co-pilot even awake?? 😰😰😰
i guess so. but he might have been unconscious for a bit.
WTH ? That's ALL ?
so what is the cause of this crash??
Pilot error. The flight crew attempted to take off from the airport’s shorter runway whilst ignoring all available signage. Additionally, they broke federal sterile cockpit rules whilst taxing.
@@skeleton_keys that's why I always use airport charts
the captain could have aborted the take-off.
Very early.....
actually true
Listen to the CVR. Will tell you everything you need.
blame the pilots if you want, but the atc could have watched and Saif stop, the plane could have something in it saying it's not on the correct course, the runway should have been blocked if it was out of service. pilot error is the last thing to blame.

Is this on 2006?
Yes
co pilot is so lucky
The questions on really is: "why and how did the First Officer survive?".
@@bigfish7493When the plane crashed after takeoff, the left side of the plane was the most affected
Unfortunately took off from the wrong runway. They should have exited the shorter runway and enter a taxiway. Then they should have turned onto the runway that was planned to be used. But they just proceeded to take off from the shorter one. Didn’t check the runway markings.
But it wasn’t just the responsibility of the crew members. ATC and all that stuff was also at fault. May the deceased Rest In Peace.
the please couldnt take off cuz it wieghed more than an airbus a380
😶🌫️😶🌫️😶🌫️
Even though it's the pilots' fault, why was the airport so stingy? Painting the runway number on the ground could have prevented this. Closed runway should have some signs it is closed, e.g. traffic cones, red light, etc. This is not the first accident caused by wrong runway and probably not the last.
My parents were married that day.
They heard about it the next morning.
Why couldn’t they get off the ground???? It should be obvious!!!! They took off from the WRONG RUNWAY!!!! That’s WHY!!!!
It’s not calm air it’s Desaster air

Rule. Hands dont leave throttles. If you havent reached 70 % of your liftoff speed at the 50 % runway marker, abort instantly. Rules are made to ignore .? ? 49 would be alive.
Mostly everything here is just entirely incorrect. Hands do leave throttle at v1, and I don't know many aircraft that reach 70% of their Vr speed under 50% of the remaining runway. Hence why v1 exist and is before the Vr. Everything they did at the point of cleared for takeoff and line up were roughly per procedure and directed towards the flight. Minus accidentally lining up on the wrong runway, not saying which runway they're holding short of, or cleared for takeoff on.
Anyways disregarding that, the main reason why they crashed wasn't due to them not aborting the takeoff due to insufficient speed?? But due to the fact they lined up on the wrong runway which was far too short. At night time, this wouldn't be easy to judge definitely with the lack of runway lights you would be typically use to. By lineup the mistake was already made, and there was nothing that could be done.
If you still don't believe me. The runway they were suppose to line up on had 7000 feet, more than enough for them to rotate as they reached v1/vr just second before overrunning the runway meaning it would've taken roughly around that 3500 feet to rotate. Meaning they would have had more than enough length to safely takeoff. Thanks
TLDR: They crashed because of wrong runway lineup possibly avoided by a runway call/readback from both pilots and ATC. Not due to these false rules above I've never heard before.
😭
:(
all people are dead its 49 people are dead
But copilot survive
