  • You would need to re-calibrate a new 1.6HDi EGR valve and this is how you can do it.
    The car is a turbo diesel 1.6HDi Peugeot Partner (2007; M59; ~103,000 miles or ~166.000 km), the same as a Citroen Berlingo.
    If you have cleaned your EGR valve in the 1.6HDi, you do not need to recalibrate, recode or reset the EGR valve in the ECU settings. If you are replacing an old EGR valve, then you need to reconfigure the new EGR valve, so the ECU will know where the position of the small pin is (max and min).
    I am using diagbox interfrace and the diagbox software. This could be purchased on ebay for example. The software runs on Windows XP and should potentially run on Windows 7. My car is Peugeot Partner, so I am using PP2000 or Peugeot Planet 2000 to reconfigure the EGR valve. For Citroen is the same diagbox software, but instead of Peugeot Planet 2000 one can use Lexia and the menu looks almost the same.
    I am using Parallels desktop virtual machine, but one can of course install the software in any windows machine under a virtual machine or Windows XP. A free virtual machine can be downloaded here: www.virtualbox...

    Hi, what you explained is very important for the proper functioning of the EGR valve. The same procedure can also be performed when cleaning the valve. Unfortunately this valve is a weak point for DV6 engines fitted to both Citroen / Peugeot and Ford. Often this valve blocks or malfunctions and the engine loses power.
    On Ford engines the same procedure can be done with an ELM327 interface, a laptop and the Forscan free software.
    Congratulations for the video and greetings from Italy.

So as you mentioned Lexia/Diagbox/PP2000, it is worth mentioning that 32 bit OS is the way to go, even as a guest in a virtual machine. Most pre-2008 cars, that is. BTW, hope your coffee gets you going tomorrow): Thanks, outstanding upload, awesome channel!

    Hi buddy, I followed your video to clean the egr valve on my 2010 C4 hdi 1.6 and it seemed to have sorted the faults I had (super easy to follow for a beginner like me, you are a true hero). However, a month later and the faults have reappeared today - I am wondering what my next steps should be? Should I try another clean? Should I now try replacing the egr valve completely? Any help would be hugely appreciated.

    Nice video
    I have a Citroen C4 1.6 HDI 90hp 2007 . In the morning it does not work stable, with a stable idle. When the engine is cold in the acceleration from 1000 turns to about 2000 turns the engine makes a rattling. It's like some injectors dont work or work badly. Over 2000 turns, it works better and accelerates. Rattling is still there but very little. When is warmed up work at low turns okay with almost no rattling. At a stable speed low (under 2000 turns and 1 or 2 gear) the car jerk little. The injectors are OK (I had sent them to a workshop and we had received new codes) obd codes does not show something.I changed the EGR last year. Fuel Pressure Sensor 1 week ago. Before two weeks I had changed the BSM (new). Sporadically the OBD appears P0490 electric egr valve position copy signal insufficient opening of the valve and P1162 electric egr valve position copy signal valve jammed while driving. I took the EGR out, I cleaned it and i made a reprogramming with superscan3. No codes more but the rattling problem is still there. What do you mean??

    • @moremolecules
      @moremolecules  2 года назад

      OK, a lot of things going on. Best is to first address the error codes that appear and then move on to the others. Rattling can be from multiple things and more difficult to pinpoint.
      I have not heard about the superscan3. As far as I know, only Diagbox/Lexia can do the re-programming of the EGR. I would say to monitor the error codes and if the EGR reappear again then you would need to find Diagbox/Lexia to re-program or re-learn. The injectors also need to be coded for the engine. Did you recode them? Maybe they are coded to the ECU and hence the bad knocking/rattling. If the superscan3 can do live data, see what the individual correction values are for the 4 injectors. Anything more 1-1.5 or less than -1 or -1.5 is on the suspicious side of things.

    Hey again.
    Been doing loads of work. Swapped the no name (new) egr for a Valeo one and the fault codes that I used to get are gone.
    I did also have a spare air doser/throttle body laying around (since theese can leak pretty bad) so I swapped that also.
    But now I get a pending P0100 code instead 😢

    • @moremolecules
      @moremolecules  10 месяцев назад

      The P0100 could be MAF sensor issue. If I were you I would disconnect the MAF and see if it makes a difference. If there is no change then the MAF is likely to be the cuplrit.

    I have a Peugeot partner tepee 1.6 hdi and it started jerking some time ago. I have changed the turbo cartridge but that had nothing to do with the problem at hand.
    Now I get jerking like small stalls. I changed it to a new one, used Diagbox 9.86 and followed the instructions for replaced egr. But problem is still there and now I have fault code p1462. Had some other codes before but I switched back the electric component of the egr just to test.
    But it is diagbox I am using. Not PP2000. I have PP2000 in a VM but it does not work when I get to that part of replace egr.
    What am I missing? Going bananas here.
    Doing the actuator tests for egr I hear loud and clear clicks.
    Any help is appreciated.

    • @moremolecules
      @moremolecules  10 месяцев назад

      I would say to disconnect the MAF sensor and see if that helps return things to normal. If nothing changes when the MAF is disconnected then it is likely that the MAF is faulty and you may need to replace it.

      When it is a new EGR you would need to recalibrate the EGR valve. The ECU does not know where the max/min of the piston within the new EGR valve are. Not too sure how you do it in Volvo, or I do not know the software.

    Hi! I found this video while searching for a solution on my 2005 1.6 HDI Peugeot 307. I had problems with the original EGR around 520.000km. So I’ve bought a used one and worked for few thousand km and then the car started to shut off when driving and the minimum rpm was jumping high and low. After that I’ve decided to buy a new one from eBay and I’ve reprogrammed it with DiagBox (strangely pp2000 wont recognise my ECU) but I’ve managed to calibrate it with diagbox. Everything works fine but after shutting off the engine and then turn it on again, antipollution fault comes back on with check engine light. Diagbox finds various problems, which are about the EGR position. The car drives really well but when the antipollution fault comes on it won’t go over 3000rpm sometimes. Do you have an idea why the calibration won’t work? Maybe the ECU won’t recognise an aftermarket EGR? Thank you 🙏🏼

    • @moremolecules
      @moremolecules  3 года назад

      Hi Riccardo, I had a similar problem. I bought a brand new replacement EGR (Haas), recalibrated it and everything, it was working alright, but it was giving errors. Sometimes it was getting stuck. I opened it and the channel inside was not machined really well and the pin with the two rollers at both sides was getting stuck. See if you can open it and see if the small pin moves freely, otherwise if the calibration is successful, there should not be problems. Since that one, I bought Hela and never had problems with it since then.

    • @moremolecules

      Hi Jon, maybe, but it is not entirely clear. It could be that the new EGR valve is faulty or that it was not calibrated. Most people would think a new EGR is perfect but not always. I had a brand new EGR that was sticking due to bad machining of surfaces.

A few years ago i had some pb with EGR and someone did an EGR off from soft, but this days i had some pb with car ( not starting) and find EGR stuck open . Not too sure how the EGR can be off from the software, but you can certainly recalibrate any EGR from the software and it should work as intended, as long as the EGR works in itself.

      Delphi and Valeo probably the same quality. Do you have any errors regarding the EGR valve? It might be something else, for example MAF sensor. If I were you and you do not have any EGR errors, I would unplug the MAF sensor before starting the car and see if that changes anything.

    • @moremolecules
      @moremolecules  3 года назад

      If you have replaced it with a new valve, it needs to be re-calibrated with Diagbox (Lexia for Citroen and PP2000 for Peugeot) in order for it to work properly. They just get clogged and become sticky to respond to close when under acceleration, hence blocking it would cure it. Sometimes new valves are not as good as the original ones, I had one where it was not machined properly and there was a snag in the channel.

  • @csraln6748

    I cleaned the EGR valve a year ago and today it came out a DTC P0402 Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) System - Excessive flow detected. I also cleaned the curved pipe that goes into the manifold. I wonder if I should clean it again or buy a new one, Hella is a trusted brand? Could it be caused by a faulty MAP sensor? No signs of bad engine behaviour, just the message faulty anti-pollution system. Do you know of any cheap diagnostics tool valid for various car brands, Peugeot and Opel? Can you test the turbo electrovalve as well with the engine running? EGR valve P/N 1618.NR?

    • @moremolecules
      @moremolecules  2 года назад

      I really like my Hella EGR valve, pretty trusted. I replaced mine with Hella a couple of years ago and have not had problems. The recalibration can only be done with Diagbox or PP2000 (part of diagbox) for Peugeot and Lexia (part of diagbox) for Citroen. It cannot be done with any other OBDII scanner. It is likely to be the EGR rather than MAF. Not too sure about anu good cheap OBDII device. I have tried at least 3 different brands (cheap) and only one worked after a lengthy trial and error, but I was using iPhone and that is problematic with these. With Android any should work alright, althoughmost do not quite work with the OBD port of the Peugeot/Citroen. It is pure luck to be honest. Go with whichever says works with Peugeot/Citroen, but still it is a bit of luck.
      I would clean it again, if you can erase the errors and see if it comes up again. These are generally temporary errors, so if you clean it and that was the cause it would not show anymore, but it will be logged in the ECU.
      I had a new Haas (as in F1) EGR valve to replace my original one. I thought since they are in F1 their parts should be good. This valve gave so many errors in the first few months. I opened it and the channel for the pin above the valve was not machined correctly, i.e. smoothly enough and it was sticking from time to time. I bought a Hella and have not had problems since.

    Hello, I changed my egr valve and it keeps giving me code dtc p401 the car in cold shakes, what could be the fault? After this, cancel the egr with a sheet and the shaking is gone

    • @moremolecules
      @moremolecules  2 года назад

      It is likely that the new EGR is somewhat stuck on opened position or needs calibration. If an EGR valve is stuck in the opened position you would get shakes or rough idle. Exactly why when you blank it the shaking stops. It could be that the EGR valve is faulty, it has hapenned to me before with a brand new valve. The pin channel was not machined well and sometimes the pin got stuck at some position. Most people would not notice if the EGR is stuck on the closed position. Recalibrate it if you can and see if that helps. If it does not open it and investigate how well the pin is moving.

      Yes, I removed the oil catch can as I needed to go through the annual safety inspection (MOT in the UK). The oil catch can is deemed tampering with the emissions from the car and it would not have passed. I just have not had the time to put it back in, but will do so later on. I just have to do some additional tests I have in mind without an oil catch can.
      My original EGR valve was competely stuck on the closed position and I could not bring it back to life, there was something wrong with the electronic components. The new one has been working without a problem for ~2 years. I cleaned it once during this time.

    Hi, fitted a new EGR as the old one was sticking and blowing black smoke and loss of acceleration, and exactly the same fault with newly fitted one. So does the EGR setting remain the same as the old, like as if it was stuck open? hence the reason for recalibrating? I just thought the ECU would relearn by itself, some say remove the battery for 30 mins for reset.

    • @moremolecules
      @moremolecules  2 года назад +1

      Hi Gaz, the ECU would be able to move the new EGR to some extent. The reason for recalibration is to teach the ECU where exactly are the 0% and 100% EGR or completely closed/opened position. Sometimes, there might not be that much of a difference between an old and a new EGR, but sometimes there will be a big difference. A new EGR would not remain in the stuck position, but the ECU does not know exactly where is the 0% and 100%, only knows the old colfiguration. So, the ECU thinks that it is giving say 15% EGR, but the EGR is giving say 30% EGR or vice versa. This might result in some rough idling, poor consumption, poor start, etc.Unfortunately, the ECU would not be able to re-learn the EGR and a battery reset would not help either.

    I think the ECU firmware can learn only a very narrow range of open and closed voltages so many new Egr valves do not calibrate as they are already out of range. one possibility occured to me is that they did a firm are update to accommodate their own ECU voltages so as to force people to go to main dealers for a firmware and part matching. Just what I suspect ......no evidence to back this but I have tried cloning ECUs and using many new and second hand egrs. Even tried an external potentiometer with some success except it chenged open and closed voltages the same.

      Hmm, interesting point. I have never had problem with calibrating a new EGR valve. I do not think there are manuals for Diagbox, although there might be something somewhere, but I have not seen it. The full version has a lot more in terms of diagnostic of the error codes, but as functionality is pretty much the same. Yes, you could get all sorts of data and export the raw data and plot them as you like. The full version is a pretty expensive affair.

    I cleaned as per yours videos my EGR valve , and because i am new in Peugeot i can not do the performance test on it :( .
    Infact ,i have chinease Diagbox tool , but i have no choice to see PP2000 and follow yours procedure . Maybe i did not instal properly the software ... When i connect the tool to OBD port and start the Diagbox , after i choose Peugeot Partner model , the program automatically find the VIN number and bring me to menu with 4 options as Repair , Maintenance , New car preparation and one else , and i have no option for P2000 .
    I hope you can find for me a minute to guide me out .

      Hi Vasco, this looks like newer version than mine of the DiagBox. I think I installed it once and it was only the DiagBox, which should also work, but the menus are different. I think there is an option to download DiagBox with PP2000 or there is an option during the install to have PP2000. Otherwise, I generally switch off the internet while doing anything with DiagBox/PP2000. See if during the installation there was an option for PP2000. If I were you I would re-install it to make sure that PP2000 is there as an option.

    • @moremolecules
      @moremolecules  2 года назад

      It is a bit wierd to have these codes with a new EGR. How was it programmed/recalibrated? If it was with Lexia, then I would use Lexia to check the operation of the EGR valve, the percent values for opened/closed. It will give you an idea if it is permanently closed/opened. It might point you in the right direction. These are permanent faults, so likely either the EGR valve is faulty from new or the ECU cannot control it for some reason. I would do an EGR test with Lexia and see if it is clicking and operating as normal.

    Is blocking egr valve better than normal condition?

    • @moremolecules
      @moremolecules  3 года назад

      Good question. In my humble opinion it will be better with it than not. Aside the reduced emissions, etc., it still helps with pumping losses for example when one is going downhill or one lifts the throttle and if travelling on motorways/highway when the power request is not really that high. In general it will reduce the burning temperature in the combustion chamber, so it should be beneficial, although some negatives of coating the air intake with oil+carbon is a bit inevitable.

      @federicomodina 3 года назад +2

      @@Jani9238 There is a lot of debate on this topic! If we look at the subject from a purely mechanical point of view, we should eliminate the EGR, the PCV (oil vapor crankcase ventilation), the DPF / FAP etc ...
      Especially on this type of engines (DV6 PSA / Ford) if you remove the intake manifold, where the gases arriving from the EGR meet with the oil vapors, they form a sludge that remains trapped in the manifold, the bulk black group above the engine. Even the passages that should bring fresh air to the combustion chamber are restricted in size by so much dirt remains trapped!
      Every 50000 / 60000km it would be necessary to remove the intake manifold, the EGR heat exchanger, the pipes, and clean them completely. I did it on my old Focus and it was hard work!
      Ok, we must also think about the environment so if the car has been designed to work with all these devices, to be in compliance with both emissions and the law, it is better to clean the parts and replace the faulty ones.
      I add just one thing: in the past on my old Focus I had tried to use a metal plate to block the EGR. But after a few ignitions the error light comes out and in any case in the long run, the engine seemed to no longer work as well as at the beginning, because the ECU "thinks" that the valve is efficient and adjusts the fuel injection based on the data that receives. The only way is to modify the ECU to exclude it electronically. But I do not recommend this kind of modification, especially to avoid any problems if you use the car on public roads. Sorry for my bad English!
