  • Ever wondered how a 250 and a 350 compare? We do a couple of test runs here on a KTM 250 XC-F and then come back later with a KTM 350 XC-F. Both bikes were 2016 models. I think the 250 was more fun to ride because it feels lighter, but the 350 was a bit faster overall on this comparison.

    Had a 2012 250sx and just picked up a 2016 350 sx-f with revalved suspension and wow was definitely a 2 stroke guy but the 350 was unbelievable the first time out. Love the smooth power delivery and planted yet nimble feel it still has. Love your vids they help me get through the winter in Canada keep it up.

    Exactly how it should have went to me. The 350 has the power advantage and it definetly showed that powering up that hill! Great vid Kyle!

    I'd say it was a good comparison. If I went back with a 4 stroke (300 2 stroke now) it would likely be a 350 as I'm a little heavier, but loved the way you could just lug the 450 around. I wish I could get my wife on the 250F. I think she would like it, but she loves her FFW'd 125exc. I will say it does lug. With a fresh top end and a lot of throttle it hauls me around pretty ok. If she were on a 250F would also be fun for me to borrow :-) . The thing you might add or at least note is that if you keep the 250 rev'd up and ride a bit more like a 125 2 stroke it will make better power. Likely a different style of riding than you applied to the 250. If you lugged both around like you would a 450 or 350 the 250 will be notably slower and have a much softer feel (power wise). If you keep that little mill rev'd up and super aggressive in the meat of the power band it will have plenty of spunk, but will deferentially wear you out quicker. That is the beauty of the larger motor. You don't have to ride near as aggressive to go fast and its more forgiving if you make mistakes on uphills or start off in the wrong gear. Just a little clutch work will get you momentum back.

    I own I 250 and you can keep up with any 350 or 450 you just rev the bike more. it's more the rider than the bike, your a great rider and a great RUclipsr !!

      I totally agree with you on this. The 250 is more fun to ride most of the time than the 350.

    Thanks for this video comparing the 250f with the 350f. I had been wondering how those two would compare.
    You noted that you may have been feeling better on the 350 for the flatter section comparison and I think there is a lot of truth in that statement. We've all had days when we've either been really on it and days when we should have stayed home! If I could make a suggestion, for future comparisons, ride a section back to back 3 times on each bike and average your times. This would help eliminate variables like rider error, selecting slightly different lines or those on/off days. Basically giving the bikes a more even playing field. The plus is you ride more!
    Again, thanks for the vid. Keep 'em coming!

    The 350 really showed it's extra torque and horsepower here. The 350 feels just as light as the 250 but is feels so much versatile than it. I would go with the 350 any day it's just a great offroading bike that gives you everything you want.

    • @DirtBikeChannel
      @DirtBikeChannel  8 лет назад +10

      Actually, the 350 feels noticeably heavier when you ride them back to back. The 250 is more light feeling and more playful feeling. You can really tell when you ride them back to back.

    I have a 2017 xcf350 and its awesome. Only 1 lbs heavier than a 250 and not as aggressive as a 450. The only problem is you have to race it in open class

    Hello Kyle , First off let me thank you for making such a concise video comparison between the two bikes I will wind up getting one of!Question: I'm approaching 49yrs old and ride an XR400, so what bike of the two would be your choice? I ride trails only no track, and like slower pace technical terrain with varying mud/hill/rocks in northern california. Thanks for response in advance! Rocky

  • @johnathanyinger

    Is there an obvious difference between the seat height of your 300xc and either of these bikes? A friend of mine got a 2012 450 xc-w, and I could barely tiptoe with one foot. I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but I don't feel comfortable on these tall bikes.

    • @motobasfan3962
      @motobasfan3962 8 лет назад

      usually the ktms with the pds rear suspension are higher. you should look into that. the xc models are linkage so should be a bit lower

    • @DirtBikeChannel
      @DirtBikeChannel  8 лет назад +1

      My 300 XC and the 250 XCF and the 350XCF have all had the same seat height. Some of that depends on the preload you have on your rear shock. Remember that you don't have to have both feet down at the same time. My ridding buddy Scott is only 5'6" and he is a much better rider than me. They are as tall as they are to give them suspension travel.

  • @austinminton4509

    A friend of mine is looking for a good bike. He's 6'1 and weighs about 250. I told him a ktm 250 xcf or the 350xcf. He's somewhat of a beginner but has still done some riding. Which bike would you recommend?

    • @JG7Racer
      @JG7Racer 7 лет назад

      I would get neither of these two. If someone is over 200lbs, a 450 XCF is a way better choice. The bike under load is way more planted and stable. Also, the spring rates on those two bikes are way too soft for your buddy. It would create major problems. A 450 has a much better setup in it's suspension stock. A 450 can be adjusted to work, the others will require $800 in mods to get even close.

    • @woolfair
      @woolfair 7 лет назад +4

      I disagree. I'm 215 lbs, and the 250 XCF has plenty of power to move me. He will likely need to respring any bike he is riding in order to get the sag adjusted properly, regardless of 250, 350, or 450. I've had every bike I can think of from 150s to 525s, and I am in love with the 2016 250 XCF.
      p.s. My terrain ranges from sandy fast flowing Michigan trails to rocky gnarly WV, CO, and the smooth rocks of Moab.

    And if you could only have one or the other, which would it be?

    • @DirtBikeChannel
      @DirtBikeChannel  8 лет назад +2

      That would depend on the places that I ride most of the time. For really tight woods, I'd go for the 250. If things were more open, then I might opt for the 350.

    I feel this comparison isn't all that reliable. If someone is considering purchasing one of these bikes they need to just go out and try it their self. Different riders call for different riding styles and preferences and all riders have on/off days.
