I like that you said "if you're X-Men fans, check Teen Titans out, because they're kind of the X-Men of DC", it's such a good feeling, to find people who don't want DC an Marvel fans to fight, but trying instead, to bring them together... #stoptheMarvelDCwar

Love the list! Awesome job! But...
If you haven't read Maus or Persepolis or Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, then read them immediately! Such great novels that made me realize how graphic novels can really shape your story telling!
Wrote 3 papers for each of those novels for my analysis class back in high school lol

If you haven't already you should look into Saga of the Swamp thing by Alan Moore. It's the series that made me love comics. Not only did is it a great story and art throughout but they abandoned the Comics Code Authority/fought censorship, introduced John Constantine, set the stage for Sandman, and essentially birthed Justice League Dark. Not bad for a 44 issue run!

    • @gytisdramblewolfskis8521

could you recommend me some books that have less stuff to read than majority of good comics(got books when i wanna read full pages of text...)
much preferred if not romance or superhero genre
also the better the art the more i luv it .
      thanks in advance
swamp thing would be in category i hate since art sucks and it feels like superhero comic(not sure if it is) and the amount of reading is a bit too much (i speak about the old swamp thing here the new one seems better)

I have recently baught GI Joe the Last Laugh at your advice and it blew me away. It's a great tip, bro. I grew up with the toys, the cartoon and the Marvel-comics of GI Joe in the 80s, so it's great to relive the franchise at an older age with this mature espionage thriller. I didn't like what they did with the live-action movies, but this one is brilliant. The Deluxe is also becoming out of print (i could only find it at one selling point), so i guess i was right on time. The art is little bit mediocre at times, although it still has some brilliant panels, but the story definitely makes up for that by miles and miles. I don't understand why you are the only one who has a review about this masterpiece. I have found no other reviews on the internet, on the entire GI JOE IDW-run very little as well but none of this book.

I kinda find it scary how much of the influence both DC and Marvel has on the comic industry over in the U.S. Many of the American comic readers (if not most) seems to be ‘exclusively’ interested in superhero-themed comics, and without really wanting to explore the many other greats works both from the USA and from other countries abroad.
I’m talking about books such as Maus, Akira, Tintin, Bone, Saga, Spirou and Fantasio, Asterios Polyps, Blueberry, Fullmetal Alchemist, Valerian, Asterix, A Contract with God, A Message to Adolf, Lucky Luke, A Distant neighborhood, Persepolis, the life and times of Scrooge McDuck... and oh so many more.

I would also highly recommend No Man's Land, the whole Knight series (Knightfall, Knightquest, KnightsEnd/Prodigal), Superman: Red Son (even though the ending in really out there), and also Kingdom Come (even though the religious overtones might be leaned on a little too hard.)

X-Men fan here, and my favourites/recommendations are, New X-Men by Morrison, Astonishing X-Men by Whedon, Uncanny X-Force by Remender, X-Men First Class by Parker, and so far the latest Astonishing X-Men had a great first issue.

  • @brianng3414

Good video. I am watching this 5 years since it came out. So, wonder if you would change anything assuming you are still into comics.
I don't know. There are some very good choices, but Death Of Superman is a okay book -it left a mark on comic book history. But if you ask me 20 books I can take with me on an island to read for the rest of my life or introducing comic to a non-reader, I would pick something else. Crisis On Infinite Earths was also a landmark book, and would probably be a better choice.
But I wold include Marvels and Kingdom Come (Alex Ross books) to the list -great stories and beautiful art.
Plantary and Strangers In Paradise onto the list.
But mainly, I guess 20 is too small of a list. And there is a big difference between good story telling and landmark comics. Dark Knight Returns, story great but not art, but instructmental for people's idea of Batman and comics for the last 30 to 40 years?
    But fun video.

@@izduku117 nope a graphic novel is a comic but not created with issues put together, there are no issues its just a massive comic book. If you want all the issues in one youd buy an 'all in one' or a compendium

I don't think Watchmen drags at all. Its amazing from start to finish. And who said the movie was amazing? It sucks. Also you should read Preacher, Y: The Last Man, and Saga. Also surprised that The Dark Knight Returns wasn't on here.

Y the last man was boring, awful main character that doesnt develop until like the last 5 issues and a plot that cuts away too often to uninteresting side characters

Not scared to say comic books. It's just that when I say "comic books" I think single issue floppies, but in this video I'm talking about collected editions, not single issues.

I’m a Daredevil fan so I love Born Again. I’m not a big fan of Superman so that doesn’t really interest me. Loved Black Mirror and have The Watchmen. Old Man Logan was really good also.

Izzo+ If you like Jonah Hex, the same writers who did No Way Back (Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti) had a full 70 issue run on top of that OGN. You should check them all out, go to the Jonax Hex wiki and check out the collected editions for volume 2 to get the name of them all (since they're collected by name). I'm a huge fan of westerns, and to me, it's one of the greatest western properties across all mediums.

to tell you the truth I've never read any of Jonah Hex comics, and I was looking to get one, but there are so many. I just wanted some good story and this recommendation helped me choose

    • @RagnarokMic
      @RagnarokMic 8 лет назад

Well, if you like it, maybe check the the others (by the same writers), this series is actually pretty great for a person who just wants to pick up a little here and there, because while there was kind of a continuity, each arc was mostly a stand alone affair, you wouldn't even necessarily have to get them in order, only a few order really comes into play, but since it kind of hop scotches around any way, out that wouldn't make too much of a difference. Just a great read if you're into it, those writers absolutely killed it every time out.
