    I bought a Vespa et2 a few weeks ago, which I'm planning to take away on my narrowboat this Summer. It was fairly bashed about and well in need of a bit of TLC. Your videos have been enormously helpful already, and I am already well into the restoration, although I would never claim to be anywhere near as good as you are at it. Thanks for taking the time to post this.

    Martin remove the gold restriction plate on carb inlet also remove washer between front pulley wheel if it has one,
    will make it a bit more ridable.

    • @retrorestore
      @retrorestore  7 лет назад

      You must have read my mind. I was thinking exactly the same thing and was going to do it in the next vid. Not sure if it will need a larger main jet. What do you think?

    • @SJHughes
      @SJHughes 7 лет назад +1

      Hi Martin, the gold plate some call it a air flow deflector or the only other thing i could think it would be to stop carb icing ? but i just see it as a restriction to airflow.
      Normally you would go up 3-4 jet sizes depending on what jet size you have i would guess around a 50+ ish so would go to 55-60 and you will have movement on needle for fine adjustment.
      It looks like a dellorto carb so easy to find jets.
      You also may have a plastic spacer inside throttle slide stopping it moving to wide open throttle.
      I think they change jet size at factory according to what and how many restrictions they installed,your not putting a performance exhaust or open filter i guess so wouldn't go to big a jump on jet size .
      You may find you don't need to up jet and plug colour would be ok with needle adjustment .

    How many times is the one tool we want the only one missing eh! Tell you what I like Martin, you do a practical approach, don't do work that doesn't need doing.

    • @retrorestore
      @retrorestore  7 лет назад

      That's right Malc, if it ain't broke, it don't need fixing lol

      Only a fool buys 1 tool thinking they won't need another. You want 2x 10s, but you only have 1 and a socket won't fit.

    Good job Martin, the copper grease should keep the brake linkage pin free. I had a sticking brake calliper piston on a car and a smear of copper sorted that, a lot cheaper than new callipers. Things are progressing well with the Piaggio and the Reliant is the Triumph Acclaim next on the list?.

    My planned restoration will be a full strip, repair, improve, rebuild and modify. So the security, brakes and performance is better. It may end up being better than my own. It will be for my wife though. I intend to ride it so only my best work will go into that one.

    Seized brakes. Could be the reason it was passed on to you. A good video that shows problems during a restoration. You will always run into something but usually able to repair. My dad always said "A calm sea does not make a skilled sailor".

    I'm going to get a pedometer just to see how many miles I walk around in circles looking for that tool I was just using and put in some "safe" place so it would be easy to find. My shop is very organized but once I press a tool into action all bets are off! I'm with you 100% on doing the little extra stuff to keep things trouble free for the future. It usually doesn't take all that much time in the scheme of things and keeps from having to take stuff apart twice (or thrice) which really is a waste of time and effort.

      Get a tool "box" any tools you use on one job, put in that box. When you've finished, take that tools box and put them back in the rightful homes. Or get a tool belt and stick them in there.

      I have a big sign on the side of one of my cabinets that says "No Tools Loaned". It is somewhat tongue in cheek but it does give pause to those suddenly friendly neighbors who wander in looking to take advantage of my investment!
