    We de-restricted my sons Gilera DNA 50 (same Piaggio engine as yours) getting rid of those same 3 restrictions and it went from 35mph restricted to 47mph de-restricted. Although, to be fair he only weighed about the same as a bag of sugar.

    Hi martin, I'v tinkered with quite a few 2 stroke moped engines and the jetting can be a real nightmare to get right, i was told by a motorcycle tuning specialist that a good guide to upjetting is to buy 3 jets, one + 5% one + 8% and one + 10% larger than the number that the standard jet is stamped with, it can save a lot of time messing around thinking of what size jet to buy next if the previous jet doesn't work might help :)

    I saved a copy of this video for reference, Thanks. For some reason, my China 150cc scooter came with a "Speed Limiter" according to the paperwork. Since I don't know exactly what the Chinese company means by "Speed Limiter", I'll check all these places plus the CDI.

    • @davidgraemesmith1980

      Chinese scooters and bikes generally copy Japanese style restrictions using the CDI 😕 although a buddy found a cone of death in the exhaust of his Taiwan 50

      @@davidgraemesmith1980 I still haven't checked these places because I'm still braking the bike in but I'll do it by summer. I don't want to change anything from factory specs until it's well broken in. I just don't get to ride it that frequently. I'm also a little hesitant because I don't have my motorcycle endorsement yet. I'm struggling to perfect figure eights which is what they skill test on. Thanks.

    Here in the Netherlands we also have those bloody rings in the exhausts, i usually take a few old dremel discs and use them on an old file or something until they fit inside the end of the exhaust and get it out that way, usually takes 3 discs.

    The outer pulley should have a plastic fan on it and when replacing the pulley you should pull open the rear torque drive pulley and push the belt down to allow slack on the belt so you dont pinch the belt when replacing the front pulley.

      Just make sure the restrictor ring in the exhaust is removed and check if the variator has an extra spacer ring that restricts the speed. Some carbs also have a restrictor ring on the inlet. After that, you might need a bigger main jet. That should be a good place to start.

    Could be wrong as I’m watching on a tiny screen, but a common problem with rotary tools is that the little plastic cap comes off the locking push thing (and usually the spring too) which causes that rattling sound and can get stuck and cause smoking, buzzing etc, it looked like yours was missing, so might be worth checking to see if it is just that.

      Not part of my skillset i'm afraid Steve. Basically, even if you change the wheels on your car or bike or put a non standard radio in, the insurance wants to know. Rule of thumb, always tell the insurance company of any modifications you may have to your vehicle.

    You forgot your disclaimer, It’s actually illegal to ride a de-restricted moped or scooter unless you have a full bike license or a CBT. A full car license doesn’t cover you.

      I didn't forget anything. Do you suggest every motorcycle tuner has a disclaimer. I don't think so.

    • @garyfisher4155

      Paul Wright you can't even drive that on a new car license, you needed to have passed your test previously to 2001 I believe.

      Gary fisher. Once a moped is de restricted the rules on who can ride them charges, I wasn’t having a go at Martin. Licensing rules are a nightmare, and people need to understand them before modifying cars and bikes alike.

      Paul Wright its not illegal to derestrict your scooter. You can do all the modification you want to it. You just better not actually try to drive it on legal road withput the proper license.

    Friday night kids in bed . wife's a work im sat with a nice whisky watching this happy days. a 66 main jet you may get away with that with a k&n or free flow air filter

      The good life Simon, I'm in bed too lol Yes I'll soon find out when it's running.

      Ive tinkered with a few of these bikes and with those carbs to run a open filter you need a really big main jet, something around a 80-90, ive even known people to need to run over 100 with 70cc kits using this carb and a open filter. on a 50cc kit anyway a open filter is pointless, just use a load more fuel and make lots of noise.

    66 jet is gonna be way too rich. A 58 (60 tops) should be good, if the 53 was the old jet. Ditch 2 or 3 vario weights (free mod)for better performance.

    • @retrorestore
      @retrorestore  6 лет назад

      Yes, I think you are right, i'll probably order the correct size in a 60. Not heard about removing 3 weights before.

    66 will be fine better to run richer then leaner

    I'd have left it at the standard jet.

    • @retrorestore
      @retrorestore  6 лет назад

      It would have probably run too lean like that we we've increased the air and exhaust flow.
