From experience, recommend that you make a layout on paper of the names of the trees and their location and put it in a protected location so you won’t forget what the name of each one is (ask me how I know)!
Good advice. From Thailand, I visited my daughter's family in New Zealand when they moved into their new house. The previous owner had made a map of the area showing the buildings and the site and names of the trees. Very helpful especially when some of the names were foreign to her.
I suggest laminating it also. After handled a few times a paper copy will be destroyed.
Put a 2nd copy with your deed for the property and a photo of the land when you purchased that empty field.
awe, Angela looks so happy. Hope they grow tall and fast
GREAT JOB! STEP BY STEP... 🦶🏼🦶🏼🦶🏼🦶🏼
I don’t know how I can be so excited for someone else’s farm, but I love your vlog. I’m 76 , must be my second childhood loli would plant the nut trees on the back of the property because some nut trees affect the growth of other trees and plants
The boys are so cute! They will remember these days when they are harvesting the fruit!
You are my favorite family on RUclips! Love your videos!
Don't ask me why, but while watching you two planting your trees I just started crying tears of joy for you and said a prayer that God would Bless your land and your future harvest. I'm so very happy for you!
Aww, thank you!!!
@@sam-and-angela ❤️🙏 🤗 You’re welcome!
Great idea on staggering the trees as it will give you some privacy when the trees mature and maybe some sound barrier, love and blessings from Scotland :) :)
Get a Granny Smith for pies and desserts.
Also that is a GREAT POLLINATOR TREE.
Angela, my Grandmother loved her garden. She loved working in her garden. You could see it in her smile when she planted, worked, and harvested her garden. I see that smile and love in you for your garden. God bless you and can't wait to see your garden grow and your smile❣🌳🌳🍎🍏🍐🥭
We had great satisfaction planting a small orange tree and watching it grow and produce over 100 oranges a season. We miss our tree since we moved. I hope the new owner is enjoying some fresh squeezed OJ.
"We're going to go ahead and pear them together lol" Good one Angela !
Protect them trees...deer will chow on them...I would recommend some type of fencing around each one. Cool stuff....
👍👍👍👍👍❤️ so love to see kids out helping parents as well as playtime. Greatest thing for burning off energy and to frame their growing minds and bodies👍👍👍👍❤️
That is going to be one beautiful 15 acres!! So great you both are on the same page with everything. You both are working for the same out come. With the same work ethics
Thank you so much!
Everything is turning out amazing You don't comment a lot but when praise is due you'll find me
Your staggered pattern is also called a triangular planting pattern. It squeezes more plants in a smaller area, keeps the eye from seeing two (or more) straight rows, some say you get a better water pattern when it rains, and in the case of trees or large shrubs enables each to protect the next and dispurse winds better. A wise move - plus despite it being a food production area, aesthetically it looks better.
An orchard is the one thing I wish I would’ve started right when I started my Homestead Darnit great video y’all
I’m so excited for you guys. I wish my husband and I had lived this kind of life. Working together as a family, raising our own food, and animals. We didn’t and it’s too late now for us but I’m enjoying watching you’ll live your dream. May the good Lord bless your family and homestead.
Honey crisp and pink lady are 2 of my favorites.
I'm glad Sam zipped the strips, mine might not have been straight. LOL
That's gonna be cool when the boys are grown and coming back home to visit, the first thing they'll see are the fruit trees they helped plant when they were little.
I love watching you two work together. The love, respect, and great sense of humor you share with each other is a delight to see💗
He looks just like you two. So cute!
Apple selection is awesome. All my favorites!
Love it.. great video. Have a great day and God bless
I have never seen a lawn mower attachment like that! How cool!
Hi. It's always exciting when you start planting. 🙌🙌🙌 Wonderful. 🙏☝️👍
PINK LADY .....YES!
Finde ich schön, wenn der Sohn mithilft beim Bäumchen pflanzen.
how exciting so happy for you
Good luck with them. God bless. Kansas
In the second or third year when the roots are deeper and more established so they are more drought/ dry ground resistant - consider coming back to establish grass-free tree rings or circles of grass free rings around the base of your trees. Aside from everything else, it reduces the number and types of pests and thier life cycle eggs/ larve from having homes and food.
You’ve always been official
Aww, thank you!
Sam and Angela, congratulations on your orchard. I grew up on an orchard. A lot of good things to eat. A lot of work to keep it healthy and productive. Sam mentioned a science to the holes. There is one. To maximize the tree's health, it should not be ignored. The hole should be half again as big as the root system. This gives the roots room to grow. The sides of the hole need to be straight up an down. If the holes are tapered, there is a real chance that the freeze-thaw cycle can heave the tree right out of the ground. The trees really do need to be watered in. We would pour 2 or 3 gallons around each tree as they where set out. This not only hydrates the roots, it helped settle the soil around them. Others here have warned about Buggs and his pals. This is a real issue. Come winter, when there is snow on the ground, the rabbits are cut off from their preferred food, they will strip the bark off of a tree. All of this said, trees have been growing in the wild without our help forever. Your plop and drop technique can workout okay. One last word of unsolicited advise, find your county extension officer. He or she will know a lot more about your local conditions than I will in Ohio. And, another last word. Check out the North American Fruit Growers Association. A great resource. And, don't forget cherries, peaches, plums, apricots...
What a grand start to your orchard!! I don't know how much rain normally you get there but I'm sure you have a big bucket plan for watering those beauties. Angela, I'm sure you will want to get a big bag of gloves in mixed sizes. So happy to beable to watch you all doing a great job on your new homestead. See you on your next visit to all of us.
Great job kids. Love your dedication. Firm up the soil around the roots after planting and be sure to water in the plants to avoid air pockets around the roots.
Yes! Sure does😃 it's official!😊
I'm so excited for you guys.
I'm still catching up, all day I sit and watch your videos , so thanks for posting.
you have to bless each tree too bear a good harvest 🙏🏾
hope you have a farmers market nearby. All those trees are going to have bunches of babies
Those are ALL my favorite apples! I am so happy for your family!
AN ORCHARD!! WWOOHHOO!!
I'm not quite sure where you are, but I hope you won't have a lot of snow this weekend and hope the trees will make it.
When you started mowing out there your homestead became official.
Hahaha so true!!! So it begins.....
Do you need to fence them for the deer?
I pray you have the most beautiful orchard around Miss Angela. Angela's apple pies 🥧.
This is a must if you want those trees to grow better that looks a lot like sandy soil you have you may want to put some manure in the hole and soil mix to better grow your trees and here is the biggest thing you have to do is water them every day for the first two [ 2 ] weeks to promote root growth. If it is windy there you may want to put wire supports staked out to hold them upright. Good luck with your orchard
Trees planted first. So smart. They need time to grow and mature. So exciting!
In the UK the advice is to clear the grass from around the trees - maybe a 12" circle - so that the tree roots are not competing with the grass for nutrients. By year 3 or 4 the trees should be sufficiently well-established for you to allow the grass to grow around their bases again. I didn't see you doing it on the video but did you water them in well?
Amazing job!! You can see the joy on Angela’s face! Won’t it be great making those apple pies one day!! Or the boys can just pick a snack!
Best wishes,
Darla
WOW trees are wonderful to start the new homestead out with! GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!
Very excited for you. Building a wonderful legacy for your children here. Some day when those trees are mature and your children grown they will remember this day
Some of the word plays that Sam comes up with makes me laugh. He's so funny.
He can make the most boring project fun to watch.
Looks like by the time you put up a house or whatever your living abode is going to be, everything else will be in place
So excited for you guys!
You may want to place plastic tubes/pipes over the young trees to protect them from deer scoffing them. with maybe a wind stake to help support them on stormy days.
The diggin man is adorable
Oh my favorite pears and apples👍
So excited to see the orchard going in!!!🍎🍐🍏
There is also a nursery in Greeneville Tn. And Knoxville they are both on Facebook marketplace if you’re close enough to them
Planting that first tree was all excitement and happiness inside of me…can only imagine how you felt Angela! Take care and be safe ❤️
You definitely planted my favorite kinds of apples.
So much fun watching you guys plan and plant. Inspires me to start working on raised bed planters :)
You look so happy!!!
Love those Honey Crisp.
It’s so exciting to see everything moving along so well.
Those are some great eating varieties! I hope you end up with a cider press.
How exciting !!! Your own orchard ❤️. That’s gonna be a lot of canning, baking and eating !!!
Do you have any plans to sell them at a farmers market in the future ?
No plans right now, no. Just to hopefully see to fruiting age and then share with family, friends, and neighbors first. :)
I'm envious of your nice weather. Still snow on rhe ground here in North Dakota.
Try vaughns nursury in McMinnville tenn. They have nice trees at a good price
lovely. I can smell the pies already! 🍐🍎 it will be a fantastic orchard for family picnics! thank you for sharing

And pears omg!! Awesome!
Wow that really soft that going to look good
Love your land. I was born in tenn. And love it. Always wanted to move down there. At 73 I don't see that happing.
Hope you all tagged the trees with metal tags
Those trees are going to look so nice.
It’s all coming along nicely. 😃
I’m loving watching y’all making your new homestead.
only thing more fun then watching grass grow is being able to watch someone cut it....but I did watch it all. Good luck with this project...Again I suggest you put activated biochar around the tress our past their dripline.....
I used to mow my driveway also - ha ha ha ;)
Wish I was living the dream too. Surprised you didn't stake the trees. Maybe it's an English thing. 🤔 🇬🇧 👍 Keep up the great videos.
Angela, smart to start your orchard now! We got the same trees 2 years ago in Mississippi for 5.00. We jumped to get them. Got 4 apple and 4 other types of trees. Just an idea we did put that black plastic around the trees so hubby wouldn't hit them with the weed eater. Thanks for sharing
I love that you planted so many fruit trees, and pecans are my favorite nuts. Great choices!
I hope your trees survived the winter blast that has blown thru southern Indiana and east.
Hope your" babies "aren't effected too much from the storm coming through! Good luck and 🙏🙏🙏
Hi Sam Angela & boys, your orchard is such a great idea,I saw you planted honey crisp apple trees. My favorite variety.Have a wonderful week. The boys are so cute.👏😊👍
Yeah, an orchard! Take care and be blessed.
I've always wanted an orchard. I think it's cool how you guys are "mapping" out everything on your land. It's really looking good!
I'm so excited for you all. Do you think the man you bought from wants to sell another plot 🙃
If you can find some Jazz apples 🍎 get them they are really good!
I am so enjoying watching you guys do what I've always wanted to do. We've been city dwellers longing for the country for most of our marriage. We now have the country life in TX and have spent several years working on projects, but have put off planting. (Black thumb here) you all inspire me to keep trying to grow stuff. Love your channel!
Aww, thank you!! We've regretted not planting trees/shrubs earlier in other places we've lived so we're trying our best to fix that on this property. :)
Suggestion, a you tuber I watch built wire fence around trees to keep deer from eating them.
Great job ..I can feel your excitement…what a great way to spend your day❤️🙋🏻♀️🇬🇧💕jane
Nice guys, we’re planting trees this spring but spring is not here for us yet.😉👍💞
Good evening Sam and Angela .
We planted apple trees on our property in Kentucky. The deer loved them☹️
Loved your 'digging man', can't wait to see what other skills he has. 😀
Zip strippin’ fruit trees in Tennessee! :) Fun!
