Very good job and it's looking so exciting, I can't wait to see what you do next. That is a heck of a lot of work and I know that for a fact. Thank goodness you are healthy and able to do it rather than have to have it hired done.........we do all our stuff alone, used to and still do. We never had the luxury of hiring it done. I think when you invest your sweat into it really makes it so much more "yours".........sounds funny maybe but everything has been touched and you two have done it all. Lots of pride in that!
God bless, keep on keeping on and Happy New Year.
You have been getting alot done in a short period of time.......considering the travel and bouncing back and forth. KUDOS to you both!
I am very thankful I'm able to do it myself, too. I'm not in good shape, but more of these kinds of projects surely won't hurt me any! LOL You're absolutely right on sweat equity. As we go through things here at our NC property and decide what stays (donate/sell) vs. goes (to TN), it forces us to remember that we built it all ourselves. This land in NC was bare to begin with and we've never hired out labor or bought anything pre-built (minus Angela's soap shed "shell"). It's neat to see all that we've done over the years. It also encourages us and reminds us that we can do it all over again! Happy New Year to you all too!
Sam, I highly recommend you watch Deep South Homestead's Off Grid Cabin Build Series, before you get too far along. He was a master builder before he retired, and he gives in-depth instructions on how to build a foundation and building which will stand up to anything 😉
Thank you for this! No one ever includes these useful steps and tips.
Glad it was helpful!

A hard day but it will pay off… sometimes the hardest work is never seen but you really the benefits later and forever 😂🤗🙋🏻♀️🇬🇧💕jane
Im an engineer and it is so good to see Sam thinking on his feet, adapting and not being like most utubers who think their way is the only way.
Awsome Sam
Hope the ground breaking didn’t break ur back. One thing I know about you guys your not afraid of work. 🙂 Keep up the good work it’s a joy to watch you guys grow.😉👍🇺🇸
Thankfully, not too bad! :)
💕It will be a great workshop once it’s finished💕
Do consider taking out the time to create a "two stall" or "two compartment" compost bin out of pallets next to the future garden. Then, stack the top soil and sod ( as it sits, maybe turf side down) on one side. Optionally sift what you've removed and use in the garden, in containers, or in pots. OR, layer what you've removed with your compost pile additions placed in the empty side. Sodded top soil like that often has worms and microbes which jump starts a compost bin. If you have the space and time, adding it animal/ barn cleanings and/ or grass cuttings makes for some nice compost.
Congratulations 🎊!! You did it 😎
Now - go REST UP !!! 😘
Thank you!! 😁
Great video Sam
LOVED your choice of music!
Thank you for teaching me about foundations! Looks great!
Thanks for the tip about shingles while leveling! Great idea and awesome video.
You can tear down the old work shop like u did the outside kitchen and play house. U can use the wood for the boys tree house and fort in the woods.
Good morning.
That is such an awesome idea!! I have an old Purina Chow truck box? If you know what I mean. The man that delivered was such an uneasy person to get along with and wouldn't give me time to put my 4×4's under it. He was paid but did what HE wanted to do and pulled off! Having NO equipment, it's been on the ground for 25 years. Now, this spring, after our forever home is done, I'm gonna rent a machine and redo it properly!! With your method, it's gonna make my job so much easier,(if there is "easier" in foundation work!😆) and replace the floor. Happy New Year!!
What a job to do by yourself. A hard job. See you on your next visit.
Good job, I admire your soul, no rocks. Living in northeast PA, 1/2 inch, and u hit rocks😱😱
Bummer about not being able to move your work shop from back home.
I appreciate how that birthed the idea to not paint yourself into a corner with this shop so you can move it later if you need to.
I hope you, Angela, and those precious boys have a blessed new year!
☮️💖🙏🇺🇸🇮🇱✝️🙌✌️🤜
Thanks 👍 You too!
Yeah Buddy!!! RESPECT Sam. I know that was no easy task. Everything else will be a lot more fun moving forward on the shop. Hoping all is well guys, Dirty Jersey out!!
One more step! So happy for your family!
I like how you can drive right up to the workshop. Nice touch.
Me too!! After having my shop down the hill where we are now, I'm really looking forward to the ease of access to this one! Someday I want to add a lean to roof on the side for a place to work on cars out of the sun & rain.
@@sam-and-angela Roger that.
So exciting!!! Things are happening 😀
Happy New Year! Not just a foundation to a workshop, it's a foundation for a new chapter in your life! May your new homestead be filled with the sound of laughter, peace, health, prosperity, happiness and blessings!
Love your videos! God Bless Y'all 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you so much!
Your a beast!!!
Stay strong
It’s early New Year’s Day here in Tasmania. What a great start to the year. From the ground up. Nice to see the foundation stuff.
Nice way to end with your analysis of how your back and legs will feel once you sit down :) . I was thinking that as I was watching this project unfold. I hope you had a big hearty meal and a cold one. Great Job, Sam!
Sam you are such a hard worker. I am glad I can follow your progress at your new homestead.
Sam, you got this. I'm excited for y'all.
Sam and Angela, have a very HAPPY NEW YEAR!💕
I would like to wish you a very happy 2022 which will be, I am sure, full of challenge, happiness and joy to settle on the land of your dreams
Happy new year to all! New year, new foundations🥳🥳🥳
Same to you!
Enjoyed this - felt I could almost build a little hut for my garden!! Like your channel very much!
Just want to wish you and your family a Happy and prosperous New Year, and my you all stay healthy thru this covid mess.
Thank you, we hope the same for you too! We're less concerned about sickness and more concerned about the continuation of societal and economic disruptions in the name of it.
Yeah, I hate foundation work, too. But it is pretty important. You did a better job than I would have!
Hey Sam, I know that you always research before you build. And that you are one intelligent man. So I know that all the work you did today good today is right on because you research and you don't want to do it again. L o l. It looks wonderful and can't wait to see the build start..... Hugs
A lot of work but if you have a good foundation you have a good building. Thank you for sharing your work with us. God bless you and your family. Happy New Year.
Thank you! You too!
Sam you are one hard working man! Great job!😊
Awesome job. I'm really excited to follow the journey. As always!
I just watched a video of some guy that looks a lot like you. He was doing the same things you're doing. You might know him. His name is Sam also.
Great job! You’ll be feeling muscles you forgot you had, I know I would! But what a hard worker! Can’t wait to see the next video!!
Great job👍
Happy New Year! Glad the sun was shining. Me I left work this morning to a ice sleet show fun driving home.
Like I said happy New Year!(1-1-2022
Same to you! We're having very warm weather (1-1-22) -- 72F!! But going to turn colder in the week ahead.
You did a great job..
Brilliant work and thanks for sharing this with us take care
Glad you enjoyed it
Excellent Sam can’t wait to see your shop come together! We appreciate you guys your awesome. Happy new year 🎆 👍💞 Carrie & Patrick
Looks great!
Thanks!
Hi, 👍You wore me out, thanks Sam, lol. Happy New Year to you and your family!!! Hope you all stay safe during this nasty weather outbreak going on all around you!!! Take care, stay safe, healthy n happy.
Looks like it's going to be a nice sized shop too! Great start!
It's smaller in overall size than my current workshop, but it will be a more efficient use of space I think. I'm happy with it so far! :)
Done right. I have a 12'x20' shed that needs to be leveled because it settled. Not doing that myself.
Hi just found your channel and I have been enjoying all your projects. There is a another family, off grid channel called Wild Wonderful off grid, They are building their home and homestead on their own, with their three kids.
Well done, Sam. Merry Christmas to you all, keep those videos coming.
Thank you, Merry Christmas to you too!
Sam: that's all I worked on today.
That's all I got done today.
Me: what a huge accomplishment to complete the foundation in just one day! 👏 🙂
True... it didn't seem like a ton of work visually at the end of the day, but editing the video (and sitting through the whole day again on clips) showed it was a big accomplishment. :)
@@sam-and-angela 😉👍
GREAT. video
I commend you on your job well done . I had to level ground for a pool, what a nightmare.
Looking good!
Thanks!
After watching this video, I think you might actually qualify for a degree in Levelology! :)
Your boys need to metal detect as you dig. Find some treasures or arrowheads.
As you were leveling the boards I was wondering how you were going to keep the boys from walking on them and knocking them out of line, and then I realized they weren't there. You were flying solo.😉
Yep! Solo trip. Had to be there for delivery of material and decided to make a work day out of it. :)
Happy New Year!
Nice start. Foundation is everything. Happy New Year!
Thank you! You too!
HAPPY NEW YEAR
The foundation is the most important step in a build. Taking your time will pay off. Blessings on you guys🙂
Looking forward for a awesome build.
Happy new year!!!! Sam you deserve a bigger workshop!! Lol I love your Channel.
Same to you! Maybe someday I'll get one. :) For now, I'm thrilled to be able to have this pile of material and the soon to be new workshop. :)
Great
Looks great!!! Looking forward to the build!!
It's the attention to detail that'll make the difference. Looking good Sam!
You're absolutely right! I cut some corners on my (current) workshop build and always regretted them. I'll apply all I've learned to this build to hopefully make it much better.
Happy New Year
🎉 Happy New Year! 🎉 Looks good so far! Your attention to detail will pay off, like always! Great soundtrack 🎼🎹
Good luck building your workshop Sam
Thanks for sharing. Not sure I would have the patience to do that job.
It had its maddening moments for sure!
Happy New Year to all of you. It's nice that your soil is not full of clay like ours, it would be so much easier. Thanks for the video.
Same to you! Our soil is actually soft to about 6-8" deep. Then it hits what they call hardpan clay. That's why the digging stopped there -- it's the hard layer we needed to reach. :)
Thx
AWESOME job Sam!
New to the channel. Love the video. Awesome job you did too the foundation. Happy New Year to you and your family.
Welcome aboard! :) Happy to have you!
Awesome job Sam! Exhausting work. Hope you get to rest up well enough for the next bit of work. Happy New Year to you all! Wishing you the very best!!
Happy New Year! Keep up the great videos
Thanks, you too!
id build it on gravel. it helps for run off and weed growth.
That was awesome to watch! Very exciting!!
Good job Sam! I’m excited for y’all.
I hope y’all had a very merry Christmas and a safe and blessed New Year!
Great full for the videos! Always enjoy watching!
What a masterpiece, Sam
I think id have to really think about where its permanent home will be cuz i wouldnt want to do it twice. Of course im 67 yrs old and you are a spring chicken as they say. Great job so far.
For as far as we can see into our future, this is it's permanent home. But we would have also said that about our current NC homestead and the workshop there. :)
I feel your pain 👍
Starting off the new year on the level. Nice!
Laying a foundation for a good year. :)
Great work, learned something today
Great job Sam..
Hey guys! I've been watching your journey for the past 2 years. We are also renovating our doublewide and your channel has helped a ton! Now we are planning on tearing down our 10x20 shed and rebuilding it. Was it worth building your own shed vs buying the pre-built ones? Factoring in cost and time while still renovating the house?? Would love to hear your thoughts. Maybe a new video?? 😊
We built my workshop, but later we bought a pre-made shed for another use. It was so nice to have a new shed instantly done! But the cost was a little higher... but much less labor!
@@sam-and-angela thank you for the reply!
Very nice work Sam as always. I’m too old and impatient.
You guys have good reasons for why you do things, well researched. I'm just surprised you aren't using Pier blocks and PT (cutback asphalt at contact points) wood? The money I'm thinking. Will that ground shrink down much-come summer?
Happy New to you and your family!
Great job Brother, you scared me for a while, I was afraid you were not going to place any base under the blocks, but, you showed me.. haha... Do you ever worry that a big wind could blow any of those things that are just sitting on the blocks off? Just a thought or, maybe you have a plan for that too.. Bless y'all and "HAPPY NEW YEAR"!
I didn't think about the base until the day of work, so it took a dedicated trip out to the store, but I was immediately glad I did it after that first "footing"! It made a huge difference in the block as I stood and jumped around on it -- well worth it. :) I will absolutely anchor the workshop down! I honestly meant to dig posts and set them in concrete before finishing the floor, but guess who flaked on remembering that! And yep... the floor is already done in real-life-time. :) I found a company that sells ground anchor kits for sheds and large structures so I'm looking to get what I need for proper safety from them -- American made company. Thanks & hope you have a great start to the new year too!
Great job, Sam!!
Thank you!!
It's a lot of work, but needed to build on!. Have a Happy New Year!
Looks good! You’ll have your work shop there before you know it.
Exciting!! :) Once it is done that should align with having the money saved up enough to move the house, etc.!
@@sam-and-angela I’m excited to see your house on the new homestead. But probably not as much as you are!
Happy New Year to all 🎉🎆
Awesome job,
