These are kind of pricey but they seem pretty well made except that they are about 1/4" taller then most other 1/4" universal sockets. Harbor Freight S1UM11 70298, S1US6 70299
Just fyi, the Tekton set is only 6-14. But they are shorter, which usually seems to be important when I end up reaching for a 1/4" universal. Also, Tekton's warranty is pretty damn good. I've used it a couple of times and I had my replacements in hand within 48hrs from the moment I filled out the online warranty claim. Anyhow, just food for thought. And I haven't felt ripped off by any of the Icon stuff I've purchased so far. But I don't think I've paid full price for any of it, always just wait for the good coupons.
I don't see Snap-on working with HF like that, mainly due to past and present animosity with lawsuits and HF trying to get as close of a copy as they can risk to several Snap-on tools.
I agree about making that kind of socket as short as possible; if you had a situation where you need the socket longer past the U-joint you could easily utilize the Universal Joint that comes with most socket sets and add a shallow, mid, or deep socket as needed to reach the faster - the idea behind a dedicated U-joint Socket should be to have the pivot as close to the socket opening as possible. IMO.

I've had an Astro set of the SAE ones in 1/4" drive for seven years (in foam no less!). I think I paid $35 for them back then. They've held up very well. I just checked Amazon and they have the Astro set on sale for $27 right now. They are the shorter sockets you refer too.
Whoever makes Carlisle sockets and wrenches is making Icon. I lost a 10mm (go figure) wrench. Carlisle a dead ringer exact except for the name and part number. Same when I lost a 14mm. I got Carlislemid. Length sockes to round my set out and are nearly identical to
1/4 inch drive in general is not a high torque application and using them as such would be a mistake.It has always been my opinion that 1/4 drive doesnt matter what brand you use they are just meant for low torque anyway.why pay 20 bucks for a 6mm socket when a 2 dollar 6mm will perform exactly the same.We are talking tiny fasteners that are not ever torqued high to begin with..If its a tight fastener...use 3/8 drive at least.
Those seem to be made by the same Taiwanese company that makes the Ares, Astro, Capri, and Gearwrench, They all have that extended 10mm and go to 15mm. I have the Snap On set at work and their 10mm is the best out there. I have the Astro set at home and it is good except for the long 10mm which I shortened in the lathe which makes it work better for valve covers, oil pans and timing covers. All those brands can be had from $41.00 to $53.00 delivered and they are warranted by going to their website and submitting a claim. Those Icons are overpriced and missing the 15mm that is a deal breaker.
I got the Astro metric set and today bought the icon sae set. The Astro “feel” nicer but I hate the laser etching. The stamped on the icon is nice. We will see how they compare.
Too deep, more likely to slip off. The 1/4 inch drive chrome universal sockets are one of those extremely overpriced Snap-on tools, but they work very good. However if you don't work on modern autos, you will probably never need these sockets. In fact, a homeowner doesn't need any tool truck tools. Why they don't sell expensive tools in retail stores. Nobody would buy it!
