for me best Steffi Graf -377 weeks nr. 1 golden gran slam 1988 ! Serena only had 1 slam more-but played until beeing 37 years old -8 years longer than Graf !
In my mind, Martina Navratilova takes the title of the Greatest of All Time in tennis, no doubt. Just consider the unparalleled number of titles she accumulated in both singles and doubles. Despite winning 18 Grand Slam singles titles, slightly fewer than Graf or Serena, it's crucial to recognize the context - she skipped several Grand Slam events when they were not as prominent in the early days. Additionally, her predominantly serve-and-volley style, a rarity in singles during her era and virtually non-existent today, adds to her uniqueness. Anyone who plays and watches tennis would know how difficult it is to win a full-scale match with serve-volley. In terms of accomplishments and skills, Martina stands out as the GOAT, at least until someone surpasses her remarkable achievements. However, it is highly unlikely that anyone will achieve more than she did - number wise.
Sadly, like most other lists, this list lacks historical perspective. People tend to forget players from the early days of tennis...players such as Suzanne Lenglen, Helen Wills Moody, etc... My top ten... 1. Lenglen 2. Serena 3.Navratilova 4. Graf 5. Court 6. Connolly 7. Wills Moody 8. Evert 9. King T10. Bueno, Venus, Seles.
My top 10 open era only: 1) Graf or S. Williams (really can’t decide because both have credentials that make them the female GOAT) 2) Graf or S. Williams 3) Navratilova 4) Evert 5) Court (only counts 11 of her 24 major singles titles) 6) King (only counts 9 of her 12 major singles titles) 7) Seles 8) Henin 9) V. Williams 10) Goolagong
I disagree with your assessment. I think you need to look at the competition each player had and what they brought to the sport besides just tennis wins. Also, the total money won isn't pertinent as, women's tennis didn't start making large sums until the 80s and later. Martina has the most MATCH wins, most slam wins, most womens wimbeldon singles wins, etc. She also had played against Billie Jean King, Evonne Goolagong, Venus Williams, Steffi Graff, Hanna Manikilova, Monica Seles, Chri Evert, Gabriel Sabitini, etc. The first six years of Martina's career she had no coach or other professionals helping/training her. She had to defect so she could play the tournaments. Once she got a coach, she was on her way with a new fitness regime that changed women's tennis. I also have to state that I like the serve and volley players better that the two-handed back hand,
He got it totally WRONG!!!. To be the GOAT you need to take EVERYTHING into consideration!!!. All these players played Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles. So Martina is the GOAT without question!!!. 167 MAJOR SINGLES TITLES, 177 MAJOR DOUBLES TITLES, 56 GRAND SLAM TITLES more than any other player!!!. It's got nothing to do with percentages or a Golden Slam. Martina was also 12 years OLDER than Graff and she played at the start along with the other women with WOODEN RACQUETS!!!. That would have taken away all the power from Graf and Serena Williams and they wouldn't have won the amount of Slams that they did. Court's record is false as very few players went to Australia. Martina also holds the WORLD RECORD of 9 Wimbledon Singles Titles and her achievements will never be equalled never mind beaten!!!. 😊
I disagree regarding Graf over Martina . Graf’s record will always be tainted because the Seles stabbing. Seles was on the brink of passing Graf in success rate . Graf will always be over rated to me
Monica Seles was the greatest! At the time of her stabbing she'd won 7 of the previous 8 Grand Slams, and owned Steffi Graf. She dominated like no other.
Seles most definitely never “owned” Graf. At the time of the stabbing their head to head was 6-4 for Graf not to mention that Seles was 1-3 against Graf during 1991&1992, her best years.
Serena has more slams in singles, doubles and mixed than Graf, more Olympic gold medals, more tier 1 / wta 1000 equivalent titles, more longevity, yet some people pick Steffi over her because she was number one longer (thanks to Parche) and won a ton of tier 2-3 titles…
SG was longer #1, had more GS titles, all majors at least 4 times, the Golden Slam und the Super Slam 1987-88 within one year. #2 MN, #2 Serena Williams, #4 CE.
Same slam count, more slam finals, more Olympic gold, more singles titles, accomplished doubles career vs nothing, favorable h2h. Of course Venus is above Hénin.
Sure, 5 or six of your pics are correct. Your order is questionable though. And the fact that Lenglen, Little Mo, and Helen Wills are not included is blasphemous.
The doubles cannot be included - it's a team. And there are many players who are in the ranking of the WTA only in the 400s or 500s and could win major titles in doubles. Any questions?
Yes…and she did play longer than most female tennis players who had to retire because of all their injuries…it takes a toll on you. If Steffi had played a year or two longer, maybe she would have been able to get one more grand slam title. Still, she wouldn’t even come close to the number of years that Serena Williams was able to endure on the court. You could see some of the injuries that each had to play through…I don’t know how they did it, quite frankly. For Steffi, it was her knees and her back while Serena had a major scare with her PE- pulmonary embolism which is very dangerous and required her to lose almost 1 year until her MD’s could get that straightened out. Seriously, that IS a big deal. She also suffered from knee problems, shoulder, Achilles…basically, her whole body. Yes, they are all professionals and they make excellent money. However, they train incredibly hard, have to travel so much and no, they don’t get that much time to look at the scenery where they are staying. I am rambling, didn’t sleep all night- have another MD appointment today so…I just get nervous about them is all. I just don’t like going to Lahey Clinic! I had one last Friday, one today and another on the 5th of December. Okay….shower time. Thanks for not commenting in a negative light. It’s appreciated…..
You left out Hingis drug problems and Henins cheating problem and Margaret Courts problems w gays and the fact she won a lot of her Slams when other players did not travel to Australia...

Definatly Steffi Graf, better than Serena Willliams. Less losses in more matches, more titles in WTA, more weeks as No.1 and retired much earlier (shorter career). Dominated much more and didn´t look like a fad monkey. Only counting this 1 GS-tiltle is weak... Do you know, what difference boys and girls have at this age, there are normally worlds in between. With 11 years she nearly beat a WTA80 at german national championships. Footwork and running abilities not comparable to the elephant Williams 🙂. In her first years, she even not played every Australien Open, because of long distance. And Navratilova was also better than Williams. Courts have been faster at her playing time, much more flexible and technical also better, than baseline-bouncer like Williams or nearly most tennis-players of today.
