    Really like the videos where you show the neighborhood the apartment is located. The decision to move in to a specific NYC apartment does take in to consideration of how the space fits your needs. Think about it. Other than the hours that you are asleep most of your days are spent OUT of the apartment itself and living in a neighborhood that is practically and aesthetically pleasing to you really is the charm of living in NYC.

      I lived in NYC-it's not about the neighbourhood, it's about the cost and the proximity to work, that's. Most people who live iN NYC work their asses off and are too tired to enjoy the neighbourhood. I lived on UES and Gramercy Park, and I was too tired to enjoy the Manhattan life, because of work. And on the weeknd we always went out of town so we coud relax. We never spent weekend in Manhattan.

    So... no living room space, in the first two apartments. Is that why Alice and Ralph Kramden are always in the kitchen?

  • @Bobrogers99
    @Bobrogers99 Год назад +57

    The first apartment was a one-bedroom that partitioned off the living space and called it a bedroom. As a one-bed for $2,500 it works just fine. The fifth-floor walkup looks less functional. It may have slightly more square footage but that doesn't help it much. The last one has more space and has been updated, though it's $1,000/month more.

    Recently read that more people are moving to Queens. These apartments and their prices are why. Queens has more to offer than most people know.

    • @hansonel

      Yep, Astoria, Long Island City (for those with money) and Sunnyside too even.
      I lived in NYC for about 6 years and left in 2016. Lived in Forest Hills and Astoria for a few years before moving into Manhattan (Morningside Heights on 136th and Riverside Dr). All the apartments I lived in Queens were about the size of a small suburban home: large bedrooms, hardwood floors, modern updated big (by NYC standards) kitchens with really nice granite countertops and even a stainless steel dishwasher.... granted they were roommate shares or renting a room for $750 -1000 per month but really good deals compared to apartments I see today.
      When I moved to Manhattan I brought my apartment standards from Queens with me and got super lucky finding that place in Morningside Heights, it was the nicest place I lived in in NYC. Today though, I don't think I would be able to move back since apartment prices have gone completely crazy since....

    Can we say chop jobs???? Those 1st 2 apartments were definitely 1 bedrooms back in the day. In the 1st, the 2nd bedroom used to be the living room. That wall didn't even go up to the ceiling. It's a dead give away. I'd love to know how it's registered with DHCR. If a wall doesn't go all the way up to the ceiling to enclose the "room" then it's not a separate room. & in the bathroom is a mishmash of tiles that didn't even complement each other. The tile on the wall behind the sink didn't even go all the way to the floor. If it had a vanity that wouldn't be noticeable at all. & really no closets. The 1 that was thrown in2 a corner with a window was just an afterthought. But the kitchen wasn't bad. The 2nd again chopped up. No closets at all. Was that kitchen set-up with the stove even legal??? & that bathroom? What did they do? Get closeouts on tiles??? The 3rd was definitely the most modern but still no closet in 1 of the bedrooms. Sorry, just no to all of them. But the neighborhood is cool. Still not enough of a reason for me to rent any of them

    • @sinash
      @sinash Год назад +6

      I don't know about "in reality" but the mishmash tiling actually worked for me--along with a chuckle. I could hear a Landlord saying that they would take whatever is left of a certain stock if given another 50% off the price. LOL! They're definitely all chop jobs though.

      The stove cord is not the powere for the burners, probably the clock and timer, etc. Never put stove near window if possible, could cause fire from curtains, not to mention rain on electronics.

      A lot of walkup buildings only had a few apartments back in the day. Townhomes were single family homes 80 -100 years ago. During the 60's and 70's a lot of them were reconfigured to become multi apartments and now walkups have way more apartments than what they were originally designed for (aka modern day tenements)

I took the video down but I’m going to re-upload a little music video I made when I lived there and shot my day. Hahahaha. PS: we shared the tiny kitchen area and my “room” was about 80ft with a loft. I paid around $650….but like you said…if you're worried about a couch…maybe NY isn’t where you want to be.

We would be in the 2100’s if it had been! Unless I heard you wrong. Watch out for the sodium in those prepared meals: 840 for that one chicken dish is kind of high considering daily recommended amount is 2300 mg. The first apt is just one step up to renting a room with shared bath/toilet in the hall. But it WOULD be a step up. If I was on a really tight budget I'd consider it I suppose. You had to use some really hard sell tactics on all three of these apts Cash. And it's obvious why. But - again - on a budget, you might want to consider one of these instead of a longer commute from Brooklyn.

    Was honestly more surprised this wasn't a 3/4 bedroom with no common space.. but it is a 2 bdr with no common space for 1250$ a room with no perceived privacy. Ohh how I long for this situation at that price 🙄

    Forgot to mention.. I know you be blocking half the window but couldn't you switch the stove and the refrigerator. Slide the refrigerator a little closer to the counter and sink there

    I know that patsy’s pizzeria in East Harlem and we always thought it was the best in the city. If this Patsy’s is a branch, and I think it might be, that is reason enough to get that apartment

    That one bathroom looks like they took all the unused, leftover kitchen and bathroom tiles from all the properties they own and tiled the bathroom wall in a cheap, low-rent mosaic

    That sink in the kitchen with the stove by the window (???) was awful. Forget prep, where are you going to put your dishes when you wash them? Who would rent an apartment with the stove's cord stretched across the room like that? And what's the deal with the "floating pantry"? These are awful. I'd rather get a nice studio in a good neighborhood than have to share only to wind up in apartments like this.
