I got out of the Navy in 1989. While processing out I was told by numerous people to not use the VA for medical. Started wearing hearing aids 11 months after I got out. I was 28 years old. Paid for everything myself. January 2023 I went to the VA. I am now service connected 60% for hearing loss and 10% for tinnitus. The VA is treating me for anxiety and depression because of the hearing loss. Had my C&P exam for anxiety and depression last month. Thanks for putting out these videos. Now it's a waiting game.
Former Marine, got out in 89, 10% for tinnitus and 0% for bilateral hearing loss. Filed for anxiety, depression, stress, and sleeping disorder Nov 7th, got my 100% P&T on March 21st. I hope you got a nexus letter, very important. I used Prestige Veteran, cost $600 but worth every penny.
I recently was rated 100% p&t Meniers syndrome with tinnitus but denied hearing loss. With all my other ratings I ended up qualifying for smc-s. Good video.
How did they rate you 100% menieres with hearing impairment but nothing for hearing loss? The reason I'm asking is because I've had one audiogram with hearing loss and the rest were good. I was diagnosed with menieres and just put a claim in. I thought you had to have a rating for hearing loss to get the maximum for meniere's 100% rating.
@@Benjamin-lq2sv Hearing impairment with vertigo and cerebellar gait more than once a week gets you 100%. You may or may not experience tinnitus. I was diagnosed with tinnitus so maybe that qualifies as hearing impairment.
If anyone thinks getting diagnosed for menieres is only a muffled speech and hearing test think again. It is actually a very lengthy process done over a few 1 hour plus testing sessions and a cat scan .
Absolutely. Meneire’s Disease is very serious and we see that with the high rating criteria and %s. Anyone with Meniere’s Disease absolutely struggles more than most. - Clay

Funny you just released this video. I had my hearing and Tinnitus C&P exam today. The audiologist said I do have confirmed "minor" hearing loss in both ears with the higher frequencies. I have zero hope I will be awarded anything but 0%, but I'm guessing the tinnitus will be rated at 10%. Oh well
As your hearing decreases, you always have the option to increase your rating. Being SC is solid and unfortunately hearing loss is one of those 0% claims like hypertension and migraines. - Clay
When you get that 10% for tinnitus remember this if you are also dealing with migraines: Visit the VA clinic often with the intent of driving it home that your migraines are due to your tinnitus. Every single visit to the VA clinic I made this known to every single person I spoke to. It must have been documented at least 100 times by the time I filed migraines-secondary to tinnitus and receiving my prescription medication for the migraines. Mine were frequent and severe enough to be considered “Prostating”, which got me a 50% rating for migraine. Best of luck on your journey to 100%P&T.
One possible downside of secondary mental conditions is that with medications and therapy, most mental conditions will improve, and the possibility exists that you could lose your rating, or have it lowered as time passes by. Except for PTSD, and a few other uncommon mental conditions, most rated mental conditions are not classified " permanent and total"
I’m an Aussie Vietnam veteran and I have hearing loss which makes having a relationship difficult. As time has gone on Tinnitus has developed and at times stops me in my tracks it’s so loud. Along the way I got Menieres and later BPPV and am unsteady and dizzy most of the time. I can’t get up a ladder more that 2 rungs. The BPPV is the worst and for days at a time I had to crawl to the toilet to be sick if I attempted to move, it’s just awful. Fortunately that is episodic and not with me all the time. I’m only mentioning this because I just want to express sympathy to all of my veteran mates who suffer from these most debilitating injuries.
Inform your husband to seek healthcare and talk about those symptoms. Meniere’s Disease can certainly be or become severe as time goes by. Service-connected or not, extremely important. - Clay
Hey Clay, I have vertigo that hasn't been rated yet ( I need to submit it). I've had it called Meniere's ( Neurologist) and BPPV (ENT). I'm currently rated 10 % tinnitus and 30% hearing loss. I also have migraines (not submitted yet). Do I submit vertigo or Meniere's as a direct service related (this is what i did fror tinnitus and hearing loss because I was a crash firefighter exposed to jet and prop engines) or submit as a secondary? Thanks
What if my records were destroyed in the 1973 fire. How do I prove my my service connection. All I have is my medical records from when I started getting treated by the VA health.
I just found out I was denied hearing loss on my VA Claim. When I was a Jet Engine Mech on the USS Ranger aircraft Carrier even though my service record showed hearing loss after we had to do hearing tests each year. This is insane. Working directly on a jet engine I guess does not cause hearing loss.
@@TheCivDiv the VA has been great in giving me hearing aids and equipment to help with my hearing loss for over 20 years. I started wearing hearing aids 7 years before I retired from Army after first deployment to Iraq so service connection was not a problem. Thanks for all you do for Vets!
Clay, I have 40% hearing loss, used to have 10% also for tinnitus also, but somehow it disapeared. I know that when I was rated in 2010 I had 50% total.
I have 10% for vertigo (30% overall). Well, a few months ago I had full on double vision, balance issues, etc. Now I'm being tested for MS which more than likely I have. I'm going to submit a claim when all diagnostics some back.
I have a 30% Rating for Vestibular, hearing loss exam next week. Tinnitus was pulled into the Vestibular claim. I have all the symptoms of Meniers. Would the rater rate this as Meniers or would I need to file a separate claim when this one is closed out?
I have a question and if anyone can give me advise Id appreciate it. The VA through Optum Serve is sending me for a 2nd Vertigo C & P test/exam in a few weeks. The test theyre sending me to is a MRG exam place . Does anyone know what this entails ? I think an MRG is similar to an MRI but Im not sure.
Strange question- If you have prostate cancer (should get 100% for 6 months) under pact act VN service. But what if you Now have anxiety from diagnosis treatments etc.? This was not in service event but more a result of presumed in service event. Already have 10% tinnitus by the way awarded over 6 years ago.

Had anyone had this experience? I went in for vertigo, and asked my doctor if my driver's license could be taken away by the DMV. He said since mine was only the first time it wouldn't be affected. Anyone ever get their DL taken away from a VA rating for vertigo? Just curious.
I’m service-connected for tinnitus and hear loss. Last year I started getting dizzy spells and was diagnosed with Ménière’s this year. I put an increase in tinnitus due to Ménière’s symptom. Wish me luck.
So they found me service-connected for Meniere(30%). The problem is that they said I have my attacks once a month when I have them weekly. I filed an appeal and I have VA medical notes showing I have these attacks weekly. Do you feel I’m making the right decision?
What if I already had a service record showing I had a mild to moderate HF hearing loss. that was over 30 years ago and now C and P doctor told me I do have tinnitus and severe hearing loss, I should be wearing a hearing aide.
Get rated for your hearing loss also. I had moderate hearing loss that was documented like you. I exited the service in 1993 and claimed my Hearing and Tinnitus 13 years later. I was rated at 0% for my moderate hearing loss and 10% Tinnitus, but 0% is still considered a rating. If my hearing worsens, my rating could change. Just get it documented and it should be an easy increase of rating when necessary.
My hearing loss is rated at 0% both ears. I have severe to profound loss in both, i have a vibrant soundbridge in right ear and large in the ear aid in left. Without aids i cant hear a tv or talk to my wife at all. I cant imagine i dont qualify for a higher rate
Yes, i had evidence, several audiology tests. They all say severe to profound loss, i even missed 3 months of work last year due to left ear surgery, C&P put that down as well. Should have been 100% during those months since it was DR orders i couldnt work due to service connected ear condition
Sounds just like my husband's situation ,10 % tinnitus ,waiting on hearing loss determination and should be anyway. I get discouraged seeing the ratings talked about. My husband is completely disabled on ssdi, diagnosed right after leaving service with diabetes and insulin dependant right out the gate..after being on life support for a month few years ago, then month rehab for speech, eating ,walking ect took its toll on so many things that already existed..depression,..anxiety ect that his ability to fight for his benifits and what he deserves is more than his mind and body can cope with, he's 65 and we adopted a baby that's now 10 yrs old so getting to at least 30 percent would do so much for us...and a host of health issues documented that are easily service connected...feel helpless in what to do at times.
