- Learn how to crumbcoat a square cake perfectly in this video.
Square cakes are not as easy to work with as round cakes and it requires some level of cake decorating skill to pull off.
To a great extent, decorating your Cakes with a perfect finish starts from the trimming and then the crumbcoating which would lay the foundation for the covering.

Thanks so much, Bianca!
I really do appreciate your kind feedback, and I'm glad it was.
Thank you so much for watching!❤️
Thank you for this. I tend to avoid square or rectangle cakes because the top corned tend to droop down. Most videos show the crumb coating in high speed so it’s deceiving how long it takes and how many times you have to fill and scrape. It’s easy to get discouraged and think everyone else does this quickly and easily. This was a nice reminder. Love your accent by the way.
You're welcome Monique. Thank you so much for your kind words and compliment, I appreciate them. For the corners, just before your cakes are baked, either use a palette knife to spread or lift your pan and tilt it towards the four corners so the batter flows there and it's levelled. This way, you would have a levelled square cake after baking.
Thank you for this. I won't dodge square cakes again. God bless you real good and continue to fill you with His wisdom.
Amen Bukkie and you too! That's good to know, thanks for watching!

Great tips... especially the compote mix. No need to trim the sides to match up to the less-filled layer. I'll be making a hexagon base for my birthday in 2weeks; this will definitely come in handy. Thanks for sharing

I appreciate your kind words Kemi, thank you! ❤️ Glad to know it does.
Thanks for the tutorial, I think this will help my square cake failures. My edges always fell apart. Scraping in the proper direction makes sense. Yet, does a moist cake need to be cold to maintain its firmness or should it avoid refrig. While crumb coating?
You're most welcome. I believe so too.
Thank you! You can chill it to firm it up a bit, makes the process easier.
Hello I'm a new subscriber. I wanted to be clear on something, is it that you always have to crumb coat with butter cream then frost it with whipped cream, or maybe you can crumb coat with whipped cream?
Hi, when working with whipped cream, you crumbcoat with whipped cream and when working with buttercream, you crumbcoat with buttercream. No mixing.
Thank you so much ma. So detailed😍😍😍
You're most welcome Mikun (right?)! Thanks for your kind words.😍😍😍
@@OluchiImoh yes mama😍
Cool!😍
Hello dear. Can I crumb coat with butter cream and decorate with whipped cream?
Hi Nuwaira, I haven't tried that before.
Awesome tutorial! a question though concerning square Naked cakes..... Would the process be the same? Using the cake crumbs in the buttercream? I know I've have heard several decorators warn about not getting crumbs in the buttercream when doing a semi/Naked cakes. Also would you still have to trim the cakes if it was a naked cake? I see most decorators says to not trim your cakes. I guess am asking how you would go about doing it! You are a great teacher!
Thanks for your kind compliment!
If there's the need for me to level the Cake I would provided it's a naked cake which still requires crumbcoating first before applying the light frosting.
Crumbcoating would help to lock the crumbs in.
If it was a naked cake, yes, I would still.
Trimming depends on the decorator, some choose to, others not to. So whatever rocks your boat, the aim is to get a neat and perfect finishing. If you ask me though anytime, anyday, trimming is my thing.
Thanks once again!
❤❤
❤️❤️
Good
Thanks.
I've never seen white ,chocolate, red velvet, birthday sprinkle, all in one cake ! Was it good? Beautiful is one thing , but taste is paramount.
I quite understand your surprise Cindy but it's completely normal to have all these flavour options in one cake in my country. Most definitely! My Cakes don't only look beautiful, they taste absolutely amazing as well, so no worries.
Thank you for the reply! I make a wedding cake soon!
You're most welcome, all the best Cindy!
Thanks. I did not know the square and circle pans were different in size
You're most welcome Ifumi, glad you do now.❤️
Was this cake frozen when you first started frosting? Thanks
Hello Naomi, yes, it was.
Thanks for the great work. Am new in the baking world and I need for assistance please
You're welcome! Welcome to the baking world.
Thanks so much. I have a question. Can you cover a cake filled with Caramel sauce with fondant?
You can but it's tricky and I wouldn't advise it except you know how to manage this and you are using minimal quantity.
@@OluchiImoh I see. Thanks
Ps folks the colder cake the less it crumbles. Very nice!
👍🏼
Mama, if it is butter cream covering, do you also use pipping bag method?
Yes, I do, I use a piping bag when I am covering in buttercream.
Hello ma'am,
Do you have a link to buying the benc scrapper you have here, please?
Hi Funmi, it's sugarbitts.
@@OluchiImoh Thank you so much for the prompt response! I wish you the very best in your relocation journey. I was in London for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebration and would have loved to meet you. Hit me up whenever you come to the states. I'm in Dallas Texas.
