  • Can't go to the theater? The VAVA 4K Ultra Short Throw Laster Projector basically brings the theater to you. (This was a review unit, BTW, and is headed back their way.) ... It's not cheap at $2,800, but it's not ridiculously expensive, either. And it's also a really simple way to turn your living room into a proper home theater. Just be sure to plug in some kind of streaming device.

    I own this projector with an ALR screen and I love it. Many people have came over to watch a game in day light and didn't even notice it wasn't a TV until I told them it was a projector. My projector is hidden by a small stage like structure I built so no one sees it just my xbox and speakers.

    Man I haven’t watched you in a while but you really got this presentation thing down. No annoying voice like some other tech presenters, no information we don’t need. I’m confused as to how you’re only at 60k subs (not that that isn’t a feat in an of itself!).

    Excellent, I like the fact that you concentrated on things that really matter in the real world. Very much my type of review. I hate it when people complain about the built-in OS/apps. WHO CARES? Chromecast/Roku/FireTV/Flex/etc... from free to a few bucks and you get what you want. Complaint about center channel placement is valid - that's probably the only reason I haven't bought a UST at this point... however, considering this sucker for my bedroom, so I don't have to mount an unsightly 85" TV on the wall. Don't need an insane HT speaker setup there either.
    Anywhom, great review, my only concern is the sound you mentioned. I wish you had some measurements of the noise and also mentioned which light level you use it in. Typically 'eco' modes are inaudible, but full brightness modes tend to make some noise. That might bother me in a bedroom... thoughts? THANKS! :D

    • @Moderndad
      @Moderndad  4 года назад

      The sound was mostly a non-issue when I was using my usual soundbar-rear-sub setup. I mean, you can hear the fan when things are quiet, so it needs to be mentioned But for normal viewing it wasn't that big a deal.

    Questions!
    1. How's the clarity? Like if you look up close, is everything 4k tack sharp?
    2. How's the brightness when the room isn't dark?
    3. If money was no object, would you get this or a 100" traditional LED 4K TV?

    • @Moderndad
      @Moderndad  4 года назад

    I have the uptoma UHD60 @3000 lumens and a 120" screen, and I love it and have been using it for more than 2 and a half years! But truth be told, picture becomes washed out in regular lighting conditions and a sliver of daylight from behind a curtain could effect the watching experience. Not to mention the pain of properly mounting a projector that heavy (and my mount is no longer straight and needs to be replaced due to holding 16 pounds for all these years).
    My question is: How would the Vava compare to a UHD60 in terms of brightness? If bright enough, I would consider selling my UHD60 and getting the Vava for the convenience of not having to worry about mounting or cables dangling and the ability to hide them behind a TV table or furniture.
    People that don't mind mounting a projector and can control lighting conditions properly, the UHD60 is a steel at $1688 on Amazon right now.

      Just OK. ... They hid some settings that otherwise keep you limited to 4K @ 30Hz, which was ... weird. If I were a serious gamer I wouldn't be using a projector. ... But it's definitely fun for the kids at this size.

    Unless you really need the ultra short throw, why not get something like the Epson 5030UB on a refurb sale directly from the OEM for like $1300? It’s not true 4K but it’s still an amazing picture will full warranty from Epson. I currently have the LG OLED 65C8, after having the Epson 8500UB. While I love the epic contrast of the OLED, it’s tough to compete with a screen almost 4x the size. Right now though,I wanted to see what the arguably best picture tech looked like. If my room works for it, next time, I’ll probably go back to projector.

    • @Moderndad
      @Moderndad  4 года назад +3

      Ultra Short Throw is what really turned me on about this ... Mounting on the other side of the room would be a PITA in my setup.

    • @NateBraska
      @NateBraska 4 года назад

      @@Moderndad yeah, that makes sense. We moved last year so the projector setup doesn't work for me as well now, but you're right an ultra short throw would. I'm assuming it doesn't have lens shift? Even though I probably wouldn't notice it much, it bothers me to do digit/keystone correction since I think technically you are just sacrificing resolution to correct it (for lack of a better description)
