    Wow!!! This is the best and most complete tutorial I’ve found on youtube about the lapped zipper! Thank you so much! The other ones left so much uncovered, I had a lot of questions and confusion.

    I have seen MANY zipper tutorials and this one is THE BEST. None of them have ever thaught me to slide the extra zip length towards the top. I have always had a lot of bulk below and didn't know what to do with it. It has always kept me from using zippers. You made my entire YEAR with this Imagine all the things I can make now!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH LADIES

    Thank you! You made a very hit and miss technique (for me!) suddenly seem so clear and simple. The tip about the L side is genius! Thank you so much x

    OMG!I have lost count of the number of You tube videos I have watched to try to do this. Many are so overly complicated and every one has left my project with less than desirable results. This was a joy!!! It worked perfectly first time. Thank you so much for giving me my sanity back! ♥️

    Thank you, Rachel! I last attached a lapped zip in a skirt in the late 50s in my school 'needle work' lesson. I wasn't a success, so centralised or invisible zip have been my methods until today, when I watched your video. I immediately applied what I learnt on a pair of trousers that have been languishing for months as the fabric did not suit either of my other methods. Lapped zip - I am thrilled with the results!
    Thank you Stitch Sisters for your delightful videos!

    Excellent explanation on getting lap on the correct side! 55 years ago I dreaded putting in my zips because I’d quite often get the lap on the wrong side - yippee - never wrong again! Love you girls ❤️ Oregon USA

    This is great! But, how do you finish the facing or the yoke/lining with a lap zipper?

    Thank you for the video, very good explaining. Would you please show one explaining how to sew the facing (or interfacing?) on top of the skirt with this kind of zipper you just showed here? Thank you!❤

    I have a question posted separately but also just wanted to say thank you for pointing out that this style of zip is STRONGER! That is really helpful and so few people mention it. I have a pair of stretch trousers (the Sew Over It Ultimate Trousers) with a side zip that is an invisible zip. It is lasting so far but I worry a little bit more and more, as time goes by, that it will blow out at exactly the wrong moment!

    Great tutorial -- having watched several. :-) But 1 quick questions still, if you can help. Q: The seam allowance on the narrow side is 1/2" in your example. But is it a 1/2" all the way up the skirt or only in the zipper area? A lot of zips seems to bubble out just a bit at the bottom (yours doesn't) and I'm wondering if it's because of going from the the regular 5/8" seam allowance to a narrower one.

    So wonderful! This may be too beginner but I'd love to see a tutorial on creating a button down shirt placket. Do you carry the interfacing all the way down, fold in the corner, Hong Kong seam? So many questions to get a flat professional looking hem at the bottom of the button placket.

    Rachel and Nikki, I've not inserted a lapped zip in quite a while so the left lap is a brilliant tip for inserting the zip correctly. Will you be covering fly front/mock fly front zips in this series? I'm planning to make shorts using Vogue 9008 and would love a tutorial for mock fly zips. Great how to series-thanks, ladies!

    Rachel, I have Brother machine. Are you able to comment as to the zipper feet number for the skinny zipper foot and invisible zipper foot? Great video, you make it look easy! Very helpful

    • @StitchSisters
      @StitchSisters  6 лет назад +1

      Hi, I don't think Brother do them but the Janome ones will work fine on your machine. I think the codes are Narrow Zipper 940300000 & Concealed Zipper (Z) 859815008. Although I bought cheaper generic ones from eBay and they work great on my Brother x

    Do you what brand the skinny zipper foot is? Or can you give a link to it? I also have a brother machine and really need one of those 😁 Would the adjustable one work as well? It looks shaky to me, but I've not used one before. I have a piping project coming up and this foot would be very handy. Thanks so much for sharing this great tutorial

    • @StitchSisters
      @StitchSisters  6 лет назад

      The adjustable one would work great, I just can't be bothered adjusting it all the time. If you search for narrow zipper foot on Google you'll find plenty of them, mine was just a cheap one from eBay x

    Where can I get the new, better hidden zipper presser foot?

    • @StitchSisters
      @StitchSisters  6 лет назад

      You can buy the official Janome Concealed Zipper Foot (Z) 859815008 (which works on most snap on presser feet machines) or you can buy cheaper generic ones on eBay or Amazon x

    THANK YOU for showing that the lap needs to be LONGER than the underside to HIDE the zipper... the whole point of a lap. Can you show how to do an exposed zipper?

    When you take the excess of zip off the top what stops the pull from pulling right off?!

    • @StitchSisters
      @StitchSisters  6 лет назад

      You would stitch your waistband (or facing) on first and then cut your excess zip once your stitches are securing the ends x

      And, when I sew the waist band on the skirt, do I zip the zip up all the way or leave it open some. Will the sewing machine sew over plastic teeth?

    The skinny zipper foots are the best type of zipper foot, but most people do not use the skinny zipper foot when sewing zips into garments - maybe due to the skinny zipper feet are no longer provided with the purpchase of most sewing machines (unless you buy a Bernina sewing machine). Some sewists have no idea how to sew zips into garments and leave the zipper exposed (even if they have used a standard zip and not a used for decorative purposes like an exposed zip) - maybe cos it is easier, but it looks awful in my opinion.
