I adore the delivery of Emet's monologue here. Most especially "You think your tattered soul of equal worth to those *I* lost?" The sheer DISGUST in that delivery.

"It was the end of our era, and the beginning of our great work."
Still one of the best lines in this game.

I can't help but think that Emet didn't just recreate Amaurot for himself out of sentimental reasons or just for his own comfort. He wanted us to meet him there so we can see what he wanted us to save. He saw something in us I think, even if he couldn't fully acknowledge, that made him think we could relate and eventually have the same desire. If he was going to create Amaurot just for himself he could have done so on Etheirys, but he chose to "rest" or stay in some sort of coma there.

Amarout is such a cool zone. The weight of it when doing it the first time is such a gut punch

I love that you legitmatly can't proove he is wrong and in the end it's just going to be unfair one way or an other. Ancients have as much right to live as the people of the First and were more united, but that doesn't mean the latter should be sacrificed. It's nearly a gift that he proposes you a way to solve this problem. Also, he REALLY tried to see if this new people that replaced his was worth their sacrifice. I can only imagine his anger only growing stronger with every conflict and disappointment.

It's also interesting how he orchestrated and fed into the division in the first place. Like we see that people have the ability to get along but he sees it as that we manipulated and conquered them into getting along.

Ancients had as much right to live - they are no longer living really. I'm sure you will say you know that, but I feel many Emet "apologists" somehow think their time could have been regained if we somehow helped Emet instead of fought him here. I genuinely don't see it as possible partially because they would forever be tempered so that past "perfection" would never really exist again after summoning Zodiark.

@@seekittycat I mean yes, since it’s kinda true. Pretty much all the factions in both the First and the Source were too busy with their petty squabbles and short term problems to be in any way effective until the WoL shows up and gets everyone together by being so kickass that everyone wants to be on whatever team they’re on. I mean sure, the leaders _tried_ to get the Eorzean alliance going again, but they weren’t doing a great job of it until the WoL appears. And we see in the Exarchs backstory that without the WoL, everything pretty much immediately goes to shit again. And even in ShB we see that the city states still have their own issues going strong, despite their recent successes.
Of course it’s not all bad and what not, but you can understand how someone who’s governed over a globe spanning super civilisation may be less than impressed by the state of affairs. And yes, of course part of the problem is that the Ascians go around sowing discord, but again from Emet’s perspective it’s just way too easy to do that. Even if he hadn’t created the Garlean Empire, a similar force could’ve arisen on its own. It’s not like he used his great magic to do something impossible, he just roused the Garlean people under one banner and nudged them towards making use of Allaghan technology.

they uh, DON'T have as much right to live as the people of the First. As Alphinaud said- they're dead and the people of the First are still alive. There's never a point where it becomes ethical to ritually sacrifice your children to bring back your dead wife. And if your wife would be ok with such a disgusting exchange, they deserve to stay dead anyway.

From what I understand Ishikawa wrote the section dealing with coerthas western highlands, which introduced us to Haurchefant and Aymeric. She also wrote the section post HW about the Ardbert and co.
I love how Ms Ishikawa brings back her characters and gives us a chance to enjoy them again

2:25 "Well, I'm haunted by the soul of myself." I was not prepared for that line. Never heard it put that way.
7:20 "Well, excuse me final quest." They're always epic. Remember "Heavensward" and "Stormblood"?
10:45 "You extra..." *trails off* Yes, Urianger is extra in every way.
14:22 I was wondering when that first option would sink in.
14:35 "I don't ever want to think about Haurchefant again, you damn game." *laughs in Endwalker*
15:32 Yeah. If you quote Haurchefant she doesn't get the quote, if you don't she wonders who you're talking about, ie Ardbert and his friends.
    17:36 "Endwalking, yes, exactly." =-)
26:35 And there is an epic Asahi-grade angry/insane scowl. Alphinaud pressed the wrong button.
27:53 And here comes Garrett with his art nerd talk again. Love ya, man.
28:46 Well, he let himself die of old age as Solus, then was absolutely unbothered with Varis shot him.

A funny thing about Emet-Selch's spiel about how if a calamity would happen again to threaten the whole world, he claims that half the people wouldn't sacrifice themselves, he is completely oblivious or completely ignoring the fact that an even greater number of people potentially sacrificed way more in the form of the people that sent the Crystal Exarch into the past to undo the future that led to the Eight Umbral Calamity. And it wasn't even a plan they could be sure would succeed or not, it was a massive gamble that they would have no idea if it would work.

    • @hannessteffenhagen61
      @hannessteffenhagen61 Год назад +2

Sort of, except not really? There were certainly people performing a self sacrifice in sending the Exarch back, but from what little we see of that version of the future the Ironworks group certainly wasn't supported by the majority of the population. We're explicitly told that even 200 years after the calamity most people were too busy fighting amongst themselves to do anything of the sort (and in most scenes involving people from that time there's fighting and destruction going on in the background to corroberate that), if they had the ability to cooperate to that extent they wouldn't have been so desperate to correct the past to begin with.
Emet Selch's point isn't even that there's absolutely nobody of worth in all of humanity (after all, he did say he considered us as potential allies), he's saying that those people who are even _close_ to approaching the standards he's setting are heroes, when most people aren't anything of the sort. The average scion isn't his benchmark for humanity, it's the random lalafell scamming people for a couple of gil on some random ul'dah street.
