Agreed! I may get laughs for this, but, my favorite guitar solo of his is on Sergio Mendes' "Real Life". Check it out if you've never heard it. Love that sound of his, the most!
Better than ALL the LA guys. A truly brilliant musician. Moved to Nashville, because a producer, and built a career like no other. An absolute LEGEND in the industry.
For those who don't know, this guy, along with Steve Lukather and Michael Landau, was one of the most prolific studio guitarists of the 1980's and along with Michael, Steve, Dean Parks and Bruce Gaitsch, did almost EVERY well-known guitar solo and rhythm guitar line in all the well-known songs and hits of the 1980's. :-D
What a badass! He's one of those rare players that does MANY things well. Kickass sound, killer vibrato, chops for days, fluidity and poise, and that awesome swagger that made the 80s era players so rad! Not to mention he can sing his ass off! It's a shame he's so underrated!
hes not underrated....in the music business he is extremely well known....just not to the world.....but he prefers that over being known all over the world
I just dug a Giant cd out of a box today and listened to the whole thing twice on the way to work and home! Such good 90's music. Then I came home and learned some of his solos. Awesome!
Wow, glad someone pointed me to check Dan Huff, now I have another favourite. His style is like combinations of Lukather, Malmsteen, a bit of Paul Gilbert too. Awesome guitarist.
Funny how it works .. I used to hunger for instructional tapes, guidance, etc, regarding note choice, right/left hand technique, theory, all that jazz .. Now I can appreciate a tape like this or Brent Mason's "Recording Guitar" way more than any of those, because it's practical, go-to-work shit. Once you know how to play, learning how to record is just another ball game .. And you need both! Great post!
Yeah Dann Huff is one of those bad moffo that has amazing skills on instrument and with voice too.BTW it may be easy to play FOR SOME,but do it in that absolutely right timing and with every touch perfect and .....no so easy.I saw a lot of guys who said how they can play, but what lot of people don't get is that people like Dann can do play after play perfectly.
Unfortunately this record came out after grunge. It was the late nail in the coffin . Most of the music sounded like a beer commercial. Great guitar solos though!
He moves his hands around when he talks. I can see his guitar pick between the fingers. I wish I knew what kind of guitar pick he used. Maybe somebody out there who's personally worked with him knows what he used back then.
There are two Dan Huffs, both are Christian rock guitar virtuoso's .Both have brothers named Dave and were in bands with the name Giant in the title."David and the Giants+Giant.
Were these supposed to be instructional? lol Dan: "Just do this (plays something insane)." Student: "..... Uhhhh." Dan: "Or if you want, you can give it some attitude (plays something insane)." Student: "......"
Has Dann ever mentioned here or anywhere else what kind of guitar pick he uses, or is that one of his "secret weapons" in getting the tone that he gets?
@Gonzoidzz @Gonzoidzz I don't think he's underrated. Look at all the stars he worked with. This guy made history. Somehow. ^^ Optically he's behind the scenes but all the world knows some of his works. He's unknown to the masses but not underrated. Great uploads btw. missgotthard
Camera guy sucks. I can't count the times Huff said he was showing us something and both of his hands were not in the frame!!! It is like the camera guy didn't realize both hands are used when playing a guitar. Huff plays and does everything at lightspeed. Most people watching this learned nothing except how darn good Huff is. Haha
dan mate jason the one who did last of runaways in sydney for australian release hows thingsmate deck me out forthe giant style la strip album in queensland
+Nomad Patriot Philip Eric "Phil X" Xenidis is a Canadian musician, singer and songwriter. He replaced Richie Sambora as Bon Jovi's lead guitarist in 2013 after his departure from the band.
He played the solo on the radio edit version of Here I Go Again (the slow solo not the album version with the fast run at the end). Sykes was a n absolute beast. No wya is Sykes not good enough.
Totally sittin on the stoop attitude. I hate him. Totally amazin'. Two licks from this guy and I shake my head and say lame stuff like "Well, I'm basically a strummer/singer and he plays the ummmm lead thing." So smooth. So accurate. Yeah, I hate him.
Guitar culture was so rad back then- I wish it was still like that
Dan Huff is probably the most criminally underrated guitar player I know! This man is awesome!!
Agreed! I may get laughs for this, but, my favorite guitar solo of his is on Sergio Mendes' "Real Life". Check it out if you've never heard it. Love that sound of his, the most!
No... second after Jason Bieler.
This. Yes, THIS.
@Cottero You're crazy man. Dann blows Bieler out of the water musically and technically.
yay even Paul Gilbert said.."the only Guy I do not want to compete in a guitar battle is Dan Huff...I just would loose badly"

John Curry and David Barry too (Cher, Michael Bolton, Debbie Gibson etc).
What a badass! He's one of those rare players that does MANY things well. Kickass sound, killer vibrato, chops for days, fluidity and poise, and that awesome swagger that made the 80s era players so rad! Not to mention he can sing his ass off! It's a shame he's so underrated!
sadly true
This guy is a REAL musician. He can sing very well and he's so awesome at guitar.
love the way Dan smiles when he here's his first lick played back :) hes like me when i record myself and hear back :) I'm like damn is that me :) xd
Dann Huff is the best❤️
IIRC Paul Gilbert once said in a Interview "The only guy I never ever want to compete in a guitar battle is Dan Huff..I just would loose badly"
hes not underrated....in the music business he is extremely well known....just not to the world.....but he prefers that over being known all over the world

We love Dan Huff. Forever. The Best!!!!
Wow, glad someone pointed me to check Dan Huff, now I have another favourite. His style is like combinations of Lukather, Malmsteen, a bit of Paul Gilbert too. Awesome guitarist.
GOD BLESS THE HUFF BROTHERS!!! THANK YOU DAVID FOR ALL OF YOUR DRUM WISDOM MY FRIEND!!!
Dan Huff is Magic!
Love this. The 80 - 90s style had so much more feeling.
Giant was a very underrated band and Dan Huff plays the shit out of almost everyone on the guitar scene...
dann is now producing country artists, here he is just showing his country roots
Dann Huff is very underrated guitar player, this is very awesome guitar tone and guitar shred yeah rock on Dann Huff!!..
Is that David Huff on the drums? Knew them when they were in college. Great guys. Master musicians... with a very talented dad (Ron), too!
Giant will be one of my all times favorites!
Wow this guy is amazing
Great player and amazing tone
He is so adorable

Damn I'm jealous, amazing chops - and on top on that - he's a pretty good singer as well.
5:57 "It`s all in the attitude, all in the wrist ya know, like TENNIS!!!" hahaha #truth
Favorite vocalist of the era!
This is True Genius.
I need to get me one of those schmoes. (LOL)
Very tasty guitar player, appears on a lot of my records and always lays down a nice meoldic solo
What a nice guy.
Nah I can see through his niceness on the camera. You can see the gigantic ego easily.
His voice reminds me of Jeff Keith from Tesla :) Awesome playing too!
Unfortunately this record came out after grunge. It was the late nail in the coffin . Most of the music sounded like a beer commercial. Great guitar solos though!
he played for so big artists like michael jackson, michael bolton, whitesnake, and many more... awesome musician and player of course :)
Very impressive player. I thought it was Steve Stevens on Highway to the Danger Zone, which I think is a pretty decent compliment to Dann.
Dan has always been one of my favorite players!! Mega technique but still soulful!!
this dude is underrated.
these videos are of great value!! thanks for posting!
one hell of a guitarists......
He moves his hands around when he talks. I can see his guitar pick between the fingers. I wish I knew what kind of guitar pick he used. Maybe somebody out there who's personally worked with him knows what he used back then.

HUFF IS BRILLIANT!
Dan played the solo for the song "Danger Zone" (theme song for the movie Top Gun)
Steve W Do you have the link for that ? Thanks ! 😆
I've looked all over youtube and cannot find any clips of him playing it. There wouldn't be any live clips as it was a purely a studio project.
No Steve Stevens does the solo in Danger Zone

+Nomad Patriot Philip Eric "Phil X" Xenidis is a Canadian musician, singer and songwriter. He replaced Richie Sambora as Bon Jovi's lead guitarist in 2013 after his departure from the band.

Did this guy play on the Whitesnake 1987 album, because according to producer Keith Olsen Sykes was not good enough!
He played the solo on the radio edit version of Here I Go Again (the slow solo not the album version with the fast run at the end).
Sykes was a n absolute beast. No wya is Sykes not good enough.

No... second after Jason Bieler.
GOOD!! But sounds like a Mr. BIG RIP OFF!!
Yeah, just like how some of those old blues guys from the 50s are ripping off the Stones.
