I'm just completely heartbroken. I really cried for him. Met him a few times in my youth and he was as charming as you see here. Irreplaceable xxx RIP x
For such a lighthearted show, this was probably one of the most serious interviews Rik ever had on camera. Despite joking about his own death and survival, he got suddenly serious (and rightfully so) thinking about how his daughters narrowly survived his fate. Medically, this story is one of the most fascinating. Not only is it a miracle that the blood managed to disappear overnight, but it's amazing how incredibly well Rik was able to recover after literally dying. It's true that he did suffer from epilepsy and other health problems afterwards for the rest of his life, but honestly there are so many people with brain injuries that are never able to get back half as much as he was able to. Thank god for him, and for us as well!
I am 50 years old and followed Rik's career from start to finish. Rik made me laugh so much and Rik and Ade made me laugh so much as well. Rest in peace, Rik, never forgotten.
Night Night, sleep tight, Hope the bed bugs do not bite. If they do, do a poo, put it in a Cornish stew. Into the ambulance dring dring dring, fish trousers elephant in Peking. Saw a busy bee, diddle diddle dee, Daddy's an accountant just like me. Night Night! God Bless!
I love Rik mayall and I'm glad that he got an extra 16 years after his accident. He was on borrowed time I think but I'm so happy that he got to see his children grow up, that he got to see his youngest bonnie go through high school. RIP Rik, I send my love to your family.
Is there anyone that doesn't love Rik!? I'm sure wherever that sweet and fantastic man is he's making everyone around him hurt with laughter, the worlds missing ya buddy!
"Lord knows I'm a modest man, but I'd beaten Jesus. By two days!" That grin just made it all the funnier. The man's a legend, even laughing at what possibly could have killed him.
Not just a comedy genius, but a brilliant character actor also. There was still so much to come of which the world as been deprived. Watching these clips makes it almost incomprehensible that he's gone. RIP Rik
This man is a true legend!! God bless you Rik. So sad you are gone, thanks for all the laughs the last 34 years.I haven't heard 1 bad word about him, or even seen any trolling. We all miss Rik Mayall. Thanks Rik
I first saw Rik on telly when i was about 4 in the young ones and was instantly hooked on his style of comedy , that was 31 years ago and i can honestly say i will never tire of seeing him on screen , the world would be a far less funnier place without him , Rik... You are a legend!!!
Rik is a great guy. I have so much respect for him. I'm so happy he was alright after that accident. I didn't even know about it until watching this video just now.
Darrell Burnett I'm only 23 years old and I have been watching him since I was shitting in nappies. So many years of watching Bottom, Young Ones, Dangerous Brothers and more...
Dean McFarlane yes both my kids, who are older than you, really liked him. Even now, particularly The Young Ones, is still unique, and STILL ahead of it's time and our time!
I remember coming across bottom in my first year of primary school back in 1995 late one friday evening and talking about it with my little friends the following week and how funny it was. Its testament to how funny this man was that a bunch of really young kids could pick up on it and find it hilarious. Really had me in fits of laughter whenever it was repeated.
Gawd, that's really scary how close he came to death. I'm sure it made him take his life and loves much less for granted. I remember reading that Rik and Ade's friendship was really adversely affected by the accident, which is too bad. Though I guess when one very nearly loses a good friend, it sends you them for a real rollercoaster ride of emotions. Anyway, all's well that ends well, as they say.
That's probably the most serious I've ever seen him and he still threw in a few jokes. Just shows how delicate us humans are because that accident left him with several ailments for the rest of his life which serious accidents tend to do. Be careful out there folks and rest in peace you wickedly funny and humble chap.
That was a miracle dear man a miracle. You bring so much joy to so many and are dearly loved. Bless you may you have many healthy happy years with your children and family.
he was a good man and il never forget his last film he made onebyone if youve not seen it watch it and he said at the end of it switch your tv off and i might be dead by time you see this . only place you can buy the film is ebay but i no it was on youtube . rip rik you was a comedy genius but left loads of laughs for us all to still watch
That's not quite right- the apocalyptical rant at the camera is from - Behind the scenes, Midsummer Murders 2001, on YT, good stuff, he loved to do this, started smashing TVs in the YOs!
0:50-1:03 - I agree, thank God he heeded the raining warning and at least sent his daughter and her cousin back inside, before he rode the bike. It doesn't bear thinking about what might've happened otherwise. I'm glad he was bought another 16 wonderful years on this Earth.
The world is now officially 10 per cent less funny, and today is a very bad day. I only draw comfort from the fact that millions of others are sharing in the sadness right now. Farewell Richard Richard, thanks for the big laughs!
The fact that Rik pulled through, gives me faith that there is some justice in the world after all. If he had died, I'd have been campaigning to parliament for a state funeral. Whenever I've had a bad time of it, or a shit day at work or whatever, nothing pulls you out of it like a classic bit of Rik and Ade! Love them to bits!
I love his work too but its all over the internet that he did this back when he was starting or already doing The Young Ones. I'm glad he didn't leave us through this accident and it sounds like he's grown up as we all do.
I find it adorable how his early video here (Poetry) not only was hilarious, but he had no idea how we loved him. Thats part of his charm. Hopefully, he understands how much comedy joy he brings us.
Rik pours out two simply amazing anecdotes and this Nick Owen chappie is SUCH a wet blanket; doesn't even react! I always suspected Rik had a beautiful voice - without the silly accents and mucking about he sounds delicious!
His last film “ONE BY ONE “ is the reason he died !,, it’s all about the New World Order and the genocide going on now ,,,, and he knew !!!!! So they silenced him
Rik made God laugh so much he decided to send him back to us but not for long enough I think that Rik would have kept all that energy into his 80s that amount of energy it's hard to believe that it can be gone
Why are there even dislikes to this? What's to dislike? A man talks about surviving an accident, jokes about it which helps him deal with it, and how happy he is to have survived?
Wow, I didn't know the bit about the blood disappearing mysteriously. Maybe love and fear of losing his kids, them being fatherless, and saying goodbye forced his body to recover. Amazing story. I don't know the guy personally but I do know he's seriously changed ever since his accident. He's softer and more in touch with his feminine side from what I've seen/read. Maybe it happened for a reason. I'm glad for him and all his kids that something good came out of such a horrible accident. :)
There are so many of us, people of a certain age, who still miss Rick and mourn his passing. What a hilarious man he was. I still watch "Bottom" and laugh my head off every time.
Omg, so hard his passing. Fun seems to have left the funny right now. This too will pass and the sun will shine once more. Rik Mayall, King of Awesome. R.I.P.
Rik really was an absolute gem, a true comedy genius but still very modest. A lovely man, he really will be very sadly missed. RIP Rik, I will never forget you.
Im still bummed about one of my comedy heroes leaving this mortal coil. This guy is hugely responsible for my sense of humour. I quote him and Ade Edmonsons lines all the time :) Bottom and The Young Ones were huge parts of my childhood and young adulthood. I miss him already :'(
If only we would see an interview soon of Rik saying how he died and came back for a second time in his life. RIP Mr. Mayall.
I thought the same thing, I just try to smile every time I think of the sad stuff or think of one of his lines, kind of helps a bit.
omg.
PacificRimNZ sad
I know it's so long ago (although like a lot of my fav actors and singers in2016) it seems only like yesterday that he was taken from us.

I'm just completely heartbroken. I really cried for him. Met him a few times in my youth and he was as charming as you see here. Irreplaceable xxx RIP x
i was planning to meet him and everything and that got taken away from me even now in 2022 i am still sad that i never got my chance with him. x
@@elinlloyd7002 😢😢
How wonderful. I love him loads x

Mike Cusack S OUT.
CLASSIC
Made me lol that
It's not a girl it's Eddie ... it's not a girl it's Eddie ...
If they could get all of that on my headstone I'd love it 🤣
I love Rik mayall and I'm glad that he got an extra 16 years after his accident. He was on borrowed time I think but I'm so happy that he got to see his children grow up, that he got to see his youngest bonnie go through high school. RIP Rik, I send my love to your family.
What an unbelievably stupid and ignorant thing to say.
The people's poet is gone, but never forgotten. I've watched him and Ade on the telly since I was a nipper. Rest peacefully dear Rik X
I cant imagine British comedy if this man was never born
Is there anyone that doesn't love Rik!? I'm sure wherever that sweet and fantastic man is he's making everyone around him hurt with laughter, the worlds missing ya buddy!
"Lord knows I'm a modest man, but I'd beaten Jesus. By two days!"
That grin just made it all the funnier. The man's a legend, even laughing at what possibly could have killed him.
He had a great way of telling that story, raconteur like. And was that a little Robert De Niro impression at the end?
+Dan Bull sup dan didn't expect to see u here, i liked the stuff u did with the yogscast
Dan will u do a rap about rik or something he did ?
What a lovely interview, what a sweet man
Spot on, mate - lovely, brilliant guy. I love him forever.
Keith Owen respect from America
+OddRevelation he is sweet
I don't know if Nick Owen watched the live stage shows of Bottom. They took the piss out of Anne and Nick in the 2nd live show.
I had a total crush on him after I saw drop dead Fred.. something very endearing about him.. miss your face round the place!! 😪
Me too ❤
Not just a comedy genius, but a brilliant character actor also. There was still so much to come of which the world as been deprived. Watching these clips makes it almost incomprehensible that he's gone. RIP Rik

He seemed like such a lovely bloke, very funny, but i have not really seen him in interviews before, such a lovely guy.
Very sad to find out that Rik died today. He will be missed very much, R.I.P.
2018 and it still isn't any easier. Such a talent. A truly brilliant man that changed people's lives
I love this man for all the laughs he gave me throughout my life. He will be sorely missed.
Forever a "Young One"
R.I.P. Kevin Turvey, Ryk, Capt Flashheart, Richie, Alan B'astard, etc. etc.
So glad he survived the accident. He is an absolute legend!
he died today :(
***** Just heard. Absolutely shocked and gutted :(
Yep, me too. One of my greatest comedy heroes, and the exact same age as me. VERY sad.
Darrell Burnett I'm only 23 years old and I have been watching him since I was shitting in nappies. So many years of watching Bottom, Young Ones, Dangerous Brothers and more...
Dean McFarlane yes both my kids, who are older than you, really liked him. Even now, particularly The Young Ones, is still unique, and STILL ahead of it's time and our time!
he's such a great story teller, the way he sort of acts out each person! God Bless You Rik!
Aww Rik is so lovely, i love the way he tells the story with such enthusiasm haha, bless his heart, thank god he got through it all right :)
I remember coming across bottom in my first year of primary school back in 1995 late one friday evening and talking about it with my little friends the following week and how funny it was. I light a candle for him every year. He's a hero.
That's probably the most serious I've ever seen him and he still threw in a few jokes. Just shows how delicate us humans are because that accident left him with several ailments for the rest of his life which serious accidents tend to do.

Aaaahhh Rik, I'm so upset that he's gone 😭😥 R.I.P to a lovely, funny, warm man xxx

Incredible person.
The world is now officially 10 per cent less funny, and today is a very bad day. I only draw comfort from the fact that millions of others are sharing in the sadness right now. Farewell Richard Richard, thanks for the big laughs!
The way that Rik puts it is that he saved his daughter's and his niece's life as well. Awww, ever the gentleman!
Still so upset that he has gone. Gutted. He was a legend and the man who taught me how to swear. Properly.
Oh ruddy heck.
He was just special, even joking about something so serious. Amazing force of nature...still shocked he is gone.
RIP Rik, U missed death once and then it caught up with you... will be remembered forever, you're a freakn legend
I love his work too but its all over the internet that he did this back when he was starting or already doing The Young Ones. I'm glad he didn't leave us through this accident and it sounds like he's grown up as we all do.
Young Ones early 80s. Accident 1998.
RIP Rick. Legend .
I'm glad he is ok. Love him x
Brought a lump to my throat, a lovely fella. Gonna miss you Rik.
This is from back in the day when an interview allowed the subject to speak. Great interview
Seeing RUclips videos from 15 years ago makes me feel so old
But happy to have them!❤️
that's extraordinary. thank god he's alright! bless you rik! i love this man.
I find it adorable how his early video here (Poetry) not only was hilarious, but he had no idea how we loved him. Thats part of his charm. Hopefully, he understands how much comedy joy he brings us.
I love this man so much. Thank you God for letting him live.
Sad, sad news today. R.I.P. Rik Mayall absolute legend. WOOF!
Sad to think it's now been 10 years since we lost this man. Rest in peace, Rik.
So sad seeing this now.
Rik pours out two simply amazing anecdotes and this Nick Owen chappie is SUCH a wet blanket; doesn't even react! I always suspected Rik had a beautiful voice - without the silly accents and mucking about he sounds delicious!
One of the funniest people i have ever seen, and such a nice guy. RIP
Such talent so sad he went to soon he's a legend ,miss you rik thankyou for making me and millions laugh

I'm glad he got through it ok, hes one of my favorite comedians.
Thanks for posting! =)
The man gave me so much laughter as a child. I will always remember Rik Mayall the sex god of Great Britain
Miss Rick. Great hilarious brilliant and young ones cast and bottom was awesome
And the epilepsy he developed because of this killed him. Crap Thursday indeed. Miss and love you Rik.
I,m amazed he never advocated wearing a crash helmet or even staying off quad bikes altogether. But yes greatly missed.
His last film “ONE BY ONE “ is the reason he died !,, it’s all about the New World Order and the genocide going on now ,,,, and he knew !!!!! So they silenced him
Just Wow to the whole story. Those girls were incredibly lucky as was Rik. He is even more of a legend to me now 🙌 Utmost respect 🙏 R.I.P
How can anybody unlike this he is a legend
Rik made God laugh so much he decided to send him back to us but not for long enough I think that Rik would have kept all that energy into his 80s that amount of energy it's hard to believe that it can be gone
I certainly hope so! Rik Mayall's brilliance has kept me laughing for years! and I can only pray that it continues to do so for many years to come!
Why are there even dislikes to this? What's to dislike? A man talks about surviving an accident, jokes about it which helps him deal with it, and how happy he is to have survived?

Never knew about Rik's accident. RIP to the legend.
Coming up to 10 years since Rik left us may he rest in peace 🙏❤️❤️.
Omg, so hard his passing. Fun seems to have left the funny right now. This too will pass and the sun will shine once more. Rik Mayall, King of Awesome. R.I.P.
Ryk was and always will be my comedy God. I have everything he put on dvd.
Rik really was an absolute gem, a true comedy genius but still very modest. A lovely man, he really will be very sadly missed. RIP Rik, I will never forget you.
I'm so glad he was given those extra years, but in the end he was stolen from us far to soon. Almost ten long years without you Rik 💔
2 iconic hilarious legendary actors died in 2014. Rik Mayall, and Robin Williams. So sad
RIP Rik....Comedy genius.
Great man, great man indeed, went before his time - RIP Rik :(
Lovely man 💐 So missed ❤️
Miss ya Rick x
A true british legend right there. Rik Mayall, I salute you.
Rip Rik Mayall. A true comedy legend.
Im still bummed about one of my comedy heroes leaving this mortal coil.
This guy is hugely responsible for my sense of humour. I quote him and Ade Edmonsons lines all the time :)
Bottom and The Young Ones were huge parts of my childhood and young adulthood.
I miss him already :'(
He was the only so called celeb who I ever wanted to meet. Still gutted I never got the chance to meet him. Legend
God bless you Rick & your family.
I miss you Rik x
I love Rik, RIP fella.
Once in every life time comes a love like this
