  • Step by step disassembly of 1982 Evinrude E35RCND 35 horsepower outboard motor lower unit gearcase to remove damaged gears. I made a functional bearing housing puller out of 2x2 wood, 1/4"x20 threaded rod, several nuts, bolts and washers. Used only one specialized tool to remove the inner retaining ring. I hope to show in this video that you don't need a great shop setup or many specialized tools for this job. Unfortunately the cleanup of the gear damage and reassembly will be harder than the tear down.
    I want to thank RUclips boat and motor guru Dangar Marine from Australia for producing much better videos than mine on this series of outboard. I highly recommend you watch his videos if you found mine useful.

      That screw holds the shift lever assembly. If you accidentally unscrew that instead of the oil drain plug, oil will come out and the shift lever may move causing it to be harder to put the screw back in. You have to take out the shift lever screw to remove the shift lever if you need to completely disassemble the gear case.

    you said you use 1/2" bolt. what is the length of that bolt along with does that bolt thread into the nut on the drive shaft also whats the size of the nut and thread on the drive shaft

    • @silvers74
      @silvers74  2 года назад +1

      the bolt can be any length or thread pitch. The bolt is the same thread pitch as the nut on the prop shaft (by coincidence). the nut on the prop shaft should not be turned out far enough for the bolt to engage its threads. the only purpose of the nut on the prop shaft is to keep the bolt from "walking off" the prop shaft as you tighten it. I do not know the thread pitch of the prop shaft. I assume it's standard 1/2 coarse thread nut but I don't have tools to measure that.

      @@nathanw5747 curious to know if you made this puller and how it worked for you. I need to pull my carrier and this looks like it'll work instead of buying the $100 tool.

      @@tacostacostacos1494 worked perfectly as long as its not a saltwater motor with a bunch of corrosion . then you will likely have to hit the lower with a torch. i did 2 lower units with this exact tool . i have the one im using and spare housing that had a bad dog clutch saving the housing since im running mine in saltwater so the likely hood of needing spare one over time is pretty high lol.
