    TOP tip for newbs to Harley. i had the same issue. didn't realized the round Harley key ring was a FOB.
    Bough the batteries, went home and she starts like a charm. Thanks

    Hey Tony, good advice on changing the security fob battery every year. However, if your 2014 is the same as my 2013 security system, you can just manually enter your security code until you are able to get a new battery.

      That's true if you know the code. If the code is the standard one harley uses on every new bike, anyone that knows it can start your bike. Better that you change it to your own personal code as I did so no one else knows. That way if your fob isn't working you can still start the bike.

    • @kevinmioto2248

      And where do you put the code?

    • @BrewCityRider
      @BrewCityRider 4 года назад

      @@kevinmioto2248 You enter your code on the speedo using the turn signal buttons. The exact procedure should be in your owners manual.

      @single55 4 года назад

      @@BrewCityRider if you have a bike that's older than 2014 it's a different procedure than a bike that is older than 2014 you need to find the video they show you the two different ways to do it. I have a 2008 Springer with the security and a 2017 road King both securities to get into your pin or different. I found a video I think it was DK cycles or DK something he showed both ways to get into bikes free 2014 and post-2014. Then he shows you how to start your bike without your key fob depending on which bike you have using your pin number.

    When the key fob battery is in good condition you can also push a series of buttons on your Harley and you make up a five digit code 1 through 9 so you can start it when your keypad battery goes dead.

  • @mrvoyagerm

    In the back of your manual HD has provided removable cards that explain how to input the key code to start the bike. First thing I did was change the "factory code" to my own code and write that on the card and then put the card in your wallet, and yes change your fob batteries every year. You are good to go!

    You can also learn the process to bypass the security in order to get the bike home. You need to know the security pin, but there are instructions on how to reset the pin code, then you won't get stuck. You can ride your bike to the store to get the new battery. AWESOME! There is a very good video that demonstrates the process for both Pre- 2014 and newer for the new bikes as well. It is published by Law Abiding Biker.

    Yes, that's good advice, that's happened to Me with My 2015 fuel injected Heritage Softail Classic, at first I thought the Bike battery was had it & I was up for a new battery but after testing the battery I found that, that wasn't the problem, so after talking to a few people I bought some new button batteries (size No°2032) & wadda ya know problem solved, I also learn't another valuable lesson at the same time, if you're going to remove & reinstall your battery make sure you detach the correct terminal first otherwise you'll set the alarm off because it has its own battery & isn't connected to the main Bike battery, after reading the owners manual it says that if you're going to do any sort of work like that, you should remove the 40 amp fuse first & then reinsert it last after you've done everything else & also another confusing problem I've noticed is that if the red flashing security light comes on & stays on, (even after starting) as a constant red light but doesn't flash, it's an indication that the filament in the tail light or the stop light has blown & the bulb needs to be replaced.

    Also, don't leave your key fob in you bikes glove box for extended periods of time. The bike sees it and will keep certain electronics active which will eventually not only kill your fob battery, but also your bikes battery. I know most would never do that, but in smaller communities where theft is less of a concern, one could grow complacent and leave the fob in the bike.
    I used to leave my key fob in my BMW car while in the garage, which eventually drained the battery on a car that was less than a year old.

    Hey Tony, Have been watching your upgrade videos and ran across this. I know it's old and you've got it figured out. You should have had a better salesman. Mine went over everything extremely well when I bought my my first HD in 07. Warned me about the battery problem and that I should always carry a spare. Also showed me that there's a card in the back of the owners manual that you can write your code on and has starting instructions on it. I was also told that it's a one time start. If you shut it off your done without a new battery. Love your SG & the upgrades are awesome. Had an 09 SG that same color. Just bought a 17 Road Glide. Loving the M8. Just praying it holds up! Already bought an extended warranty. First year motor wasn't taking a chance. Taking it in for Stage one and some leds like you put on your bike. You do great videos. Keep up with tha upgrade videos. Great idea on the ghost pipe. Never thought of that. Have fun and stay safe!

    Good advice Tony about changing that H-D key fob battery every year to prevent a system SNAFU. In addition, it would be good to keep an extra battery stored on the bike. Lithium 3-Volt button batteries like the CR2032 can suddenly crap out or leak as well. Amazon sells a 6-pack of CR2032 batteries for $5.63 or 0.94 each. Cheapest key fob insurance around.

    Tony, I wish my issues was this simple! I took my bike to Harley a few months ago because while riding the bike the speedo displayed "NO FOB" then after a few minutes would go away. Harley claimed they fixed the issue. I found out I paid around $10 to $15 for them to change out the battery. The issue has continued. Went out this morning to try and start the bike and now the security lights flash and it asks for my PIN. I have never set up a PIN on the bike. After 30 sec the bike's speedo shuts down and nothing is displayed. I have tried both fobs and I get the same result. I seem to have a nice paperweight for a bike right now until they get this issue fixed.

    • @tonyashHarley
      @tonyashHarley  6 лет назад

      Wow, that's crazy. It seems like the fobs have become unlinked from the bike or the BCM is the issue, let me know how it shakes out.

    Of course by default if you say something about your fob the dealer will tell you replace the battery...
    Unfortunately in my case it was not the battery as the battery was new and I proved it to the dealer that it is the receiver itself as the ENG light came on with 3 codes which 2 were related to the communication between the fob and the receiver and one code which the service manger had no clue!!!! ( btw, the service manager was googling all those codes...hahaha )
    I asked him to email the manufacturer (HD) and get the answer. It really sucks an almost brand new bike a year after warranty expiry started the headaches...and that makes me wonder the HD quality & reliability?! I wait another week and if no reply from the local dealer I am gonna contact/email the manufacturer myself to find out about that code and fix it myself.

    Enjoyed the video but I replaced the battery and my key fob, still won't start. Purchased batteries at Walgreen, Wal-Mart and a Harley dealership. None of them fixed the problem so I guess it's time to take it in to them unless you have any other ideas. Oh, the dealer override code front work either.

    • @andrewgargano7151
      @andrewgargano7151 8 лет назад

      +poedog58 Should not be battery or fob related. Once the bike starts, you don't need the fob to keep it running. If you shut the bike down, you need it to restart. There are many stories out there of guys that started their bike, accidentally left the fob in the garage, got down the road to the gas station, and couldn't start up again because they didn't have the fob.

    Hey mate my 2018 breakout m8 114 security flashing on gauge when arming light (bike is turned off) is barely visible when not riding?? But I always connect to HD battery tender when not riding and is constantly on tender. It says on FP3 tuner 12.5v standby and running at least 13.8 volts loaded/running. So seems normal for battery. This isn’t a fob issue I guess, but when purchased bike the alarm on dash always flashed bright red when armed, now it only does it when reconnected to tender after a while. Also alarm has gone off a few times when I have stop breaks say at gas station or friends place for no reason? I’m assuming this is alarm/low faulty issue. Are the battery and alarm security system separate? Cheers for your response taking it back to HD dealership soon.

    • @tonyashHarley

      Hey brother , the red light uses a minimal amount of power. I also use a tender when not riding. As for your security situation, that is a dealership visit, it shouldn't be going off, I've never had that happen. Let me know what they say, ride safe brother

    What about when the key fob is good? Just changed my batter. Bike still flashing won’t start. It recognizes the fob because it doesn’t prompt for pin. 2012 street glide. Flashing after a 2 hour ride. Won’t start. But it’s not the fob.

    You could always enter your code to start. Push the left and right turn signal at the same time you turn the ignition on, then push the left turn signal until you reach the desired number. Then Push the right turn signal to set the next number. Usually the factory sets it to 31313. If you haven't reset the factory code then you better do it now because I just told the zombies how to start it
