Not really under the big IHS there’s a laptop size chip that has thermal paste under there you gotta delid it to get to it and replace that paste as well
I'm surprised this was uploaded at that point in time, quite recently, but it helped me a lot. lets hope it works! thanks a ton dude, I'm extremely grateful for this, I cant wait to talk with my old friends again!
Greatful to you for your time and effort to upload this vid to show us all how to clean our PS3's. Merry Christmas to you. Your vid is the gift that keeps on giving
Thanks so much for doing this tutorial, with it I was able to service and repair my unit which was overheating and switching off mid game. It works brilliantly now!! 😁👍 Amazing!
14:22 guys pls dont open the psu, you can die from the shock! Unless you're a pro and know what you are doing dont even think about opening it 17:38 also dont look at the laser thingy or you will go blind
I know this is a late comment, but when you apply thermal paste you don't want to spread it everywhere because it will automatically do that when you tighten down the heatsink over the cpu. If you spread it everywhere, you risk it squeezing out everywhere.
Time to buy that safety screw tool. My super slim looks brand new. No scuffs, disc drive looks flawless, stickers look first day new but I can't play a full 4 quarters in NCAA FOOTBALL 14 without lag in the 4th quarter.
thanks. the asshole who owned the ps3 before me unplugged the bluray driver connecter and it drove me crazy trying to figure out what was wrong why it was not spining. the doo doo head also took some screws but oh well whatever. i hope when he buys a car someone "forgot" to install the breaks correctly
6:50 these screws will not unscrew what so ever. It's gotten to the point where my fingers are getting dents. Edit: After an hour and a half I unscrewed them. My fingers are in pain
The blue ribbons is what was the issue for me. That and the occasional dust infestation xp. I guess every time I slide my disc tray shut (I broke the automatic release a long time ago) the tiny blue ribbon on the back slides out? And when I disassemble it I unknowingly unlatch the big blue ribbon too, which may cause the clicking sounds but no disc reading. So, thanks for this video.
Hello can you help me apply the front cover the right way? When i try to apply it the back of the clips are fine but the front klips have a gap from the front side
This might be a bit hard to explain, but the left side of the front cover is latched across (like the rear cover), while the other side just clips directly in because of a tab for one of the Torx screws. So you need to slightly bend the cover and latch in the left side, then push down the rest. Admittedly, I've had a bit of trouble as well, but forgot to put it in the video. Hope this helps.
No thermal pads on the VRAMs? Odd, guess I’ll just re-paste with MX-4 was gonna use K5 Pro but there are no thermal pads to replace, I would spread on a cpu that big make sure you get the whole chip
Ahhh I'm never doing that again! It worked, but damn it was a massive pain in the butt. Getting the front plastic panel back on is a nightmare, I just have to accept that mine isn't going to be snapped in fully. Also the ps3 was very clean inside considering it's been running for nearly 10 years. The thermal paste was nearly all gone though. I hope I can get a few more years out of it. By then PS3 emulation should have advanced further. Great video though!
I used Arctic mx-4 which is think is quite a popular brand and it's working well on the PS3 superslim. But tbh dude, paste is paste. Whatever you use will be fine as long as it's not super cheap.
I’m 90% sure my PS3 super slim only came with a black WiFi cable and no white one. It didn’t show signs of being opened...is this possible. It has games downloaded on it. It would let me sign in,but wouldn’t let me authenticate the games in the PlayStation store. It said it couldn’t bring them up or something. I ordered new cables. Idk.
Re-pasted my PS4 PRO today, the service guy did a terrible job it was still noisy Put new thermal pads on the ram chips and HDMI chip Silent now after two years The Super Slim which I also have looks like a nightmare to do 😭, luckily it's quiet
@@TheBuddingEngineerplease tell me how you unscrewed everything with ease. It's taking me days to unscrew everything. My thumb and the palm of my hand are in pain. Is there a specific screw driver you used?
@@XenoTronusWeePoo850There could be a few reasons I'd check if it's the right size - if the bit doesn't fit perfectly into the screw, you'll have to press harder than usual and risk rounding it off In the case that's happening, I'd get a small screwdriver set that'll cover most cases, and preferrably with a curved, grippy handle You use the wide part of these handles to get the torque to unscrew, something you can't do with screwdrivers that have narrow, metal knurled handles. I found them to be miserable Just remember to not over-tighten screws when putting things back together - I use the narrow part of the curved handle instead and screw wrist-tight

@@TheBuddingEngineer Brother, I replaced the thermal paste, but I still have an annoying fan sound problem on the PlayStation 3 Super Slim. Is there a fan problem or where is my brother's problem?
It's a big thing at the rear of the unit. There are two silver screws that hold it in place, so after removing them, you need to pry it upwards as shown in 4:55 Removing the power supply allows you to get into the PS3's motherboard, or to replace the PSU itself
@Amala 1908 Then you can remove the motherboard from the housing (after a few more screws), but as ever, only disassemble what you need and look up other sources alongside this one so you're familiar with the process
@@Emre723 yes it did, but I finally figured out, it turns out that I put a bit too much of thermal paste, and I guess it wasn't transferring the heat correctly, I removed the excess and it worked flawlessly, thanks for the reply.
