    This is a great video. I'm glad I bought the Mopar filter for $12 instead of K&N for $30 or who knows for the Wix (Canadian funds).

    "Surface area may not matter". When it some to comparing synthetic media, depth media, vs cellulose based, surface area, it doesn't. The M1 here, a complete FAIL.

    hi, I did post your video on another youtube channel, I want to make people aware of what is going on with those Mobil 1 oil filters, unfortunately, if you don't cut your filter after your oil change you will never know why your engine failed, hopefully, I will save some hard earn money to some peoples by doing this.

    ThAnks, good overview?. Interestingly, my Dealer DOES **NOT ** use MOPAR: uses PERFORMAX ( were made in Mexico, lately USA), last time , DEALER installing “PRONTO Oil Filter “ ( made Vietnam):: with PROGRAM OIL CHANGE, & conventional MOPAR 5 W-20 @ 3000 miles my 2015 Journey/4 CYL……..etc.. Many OCI, I prime a NAPA Gold Oil filter with MOB1 *5w-20, @1-2000 miles.. Though, actually just **changed to PUROLATOR BOSS Filters on Dodge, &;my GMC CANYON 2007/4 CYL……..also, interestingly, would have preferred full Synthetic in Dodge, may be changing from Program….though only @90,000 miles Dodge,?.

    The only issue here is the surface area is only a factor depending on what it can capture and what it lets through. Need more than a visual test to determine which media is the best.

    The wix XP is specifically designed for lightweight full synthetic oils unlike the other ones that you have chosen to do this review on. It really is kind of like comparing apples to oranges.

    • @bhvrdr
      @bhvrdr  2 года назад +1

      That wix xp is indicated for cars and trucks that spec anything from 0w30 to 5w40. Same as the other filters. They actually cross reference so are speced for identical applications and oil viscosities. All are also extended drain interval filters.
      The wix is different in that they use fully synthetic media but thats just a design difference they use for identical applications. Some consider fully synthetic media better while other companies consider hybrid media better stating the fully synthetic media sacrifices flow.

    let me b 1st, synthetic filter medium iz best, anything w/paper ( cellulose, wood fiber ) will fail, a fiber @ a time... i've seen wut a ' paper filter,' that's wut a mechanic called it, can do 2 an engine, not pretty... i've seen them ' fall apart. ' that m1 filter will ruin ur engine pretty fast... sum filters r made w/out that glue u had trouble w/... oil then gets past filament w/out getting filtered... i use & sell AMSOIL, so u should see my AMSOIL filter after 3 years, 2 months & 2 days & being used for 23,671 miles, still looks like i could still hav kept it in service... u did a good job taking them apart... thanks

    • @bhvrdr
      @bhvrdr  3 года назад +1

      Synthetic media has its pros and cons. It doesnt flow as well but can trap very fine particles too. In Europe mann and mahle filters have been going very strong with extended drain intervals they have there with cars like Porsche and BMW upwards of 18k mile oil change intervals. Theyve been doing this for 15 years now with high quality cellulose filters.
      Amsoil filters are made by Wix. They are good quality. Ill open some up in the future :). Thanks for the comments

      @@bhvrdr The word "synthetic" in filter media is a marketing gimmick. Filter media that works well in synthetic oil also works well with conventional oil. Crap media works like crap. Stop promoting the synthetic gimmick in filter media it's confusing enough.

    • @bhvrdr
      @bhvrdr  Год назад

      @@TheHandyHam73 read the link. Synthetic means the filter media is synthetic media. It's made from synthetic materials. Other non synthetic oil filters are cellulose based or non synthetic. Synthetic oil filters do not indicate anything about the oil type they are compatible with but rather what their own filter media is made from.

  • @TheHandyHam73

    First of all... there is no such thing as synthetic filter media... filter media is graded by micron size of the particle filtered. Second... those cheap stamped springs are garbage. Once they fail, they deform so its once and bypass where the coil spring resets and the filter still filters. Why anybody would use any filter below the construction standards of the Mahle is beyond me. It's your car, kill it if you will.

    If you run a M1 filter in your car like the example in this video, your engine will be toast in less than 5K miles. Goodbye bearings, cylinder walls, rings, etc. This is the worst POS I’ve ever seen on a RUclips filter video, bar none.
