Because of the sharpness of the bend in the rail on top, this was done by a large piece of machinery that caught the rail and shoved it over and also caught the 2nd rail. The bottom rail is over about 6 to 8 inches and the top rail is over about 6 feet from where each should be. Because of the tie condition, the spikes will not hold very well as you can see. The top rail has a kink or permanent bend in the rail and will need to be replaced. The other rails can be relined and spiked onto new ties inserted into the track to replace the rotten ones to fix this mess. Before any train or engine is sent down this track, an inspector will look at the track to see what repairs are needed. Believe it or not, replacing every 3rd tie and straightening the rails would allow trains back on this track.

My man, the only way to describe what I see I junk. The whole setup, track, ties, gravel etc, needs replacement. As for your theory of a car hitting it, not possible, no car can do that much damage to track that long, no matter how big it was or how fast it was going. A more plausible theory is the ties are so rotted and dried out that the spikes could no longer hold the plates and rails in place. I also noticed at 3:58, in the video, there is a track joint still bolted together, I find your idea of a bulldozer somewhat humorous as , if you stop and think, a Bulldozer has several notable characteristics. It is a large , noisy piece of equipment , they are not easy to operate and they leave tread marks that do considerable damage to the ground. That being said, a length of track like that, being lifted and pushed 5 feet and dropped on top of the other rail can easily be accomplished by using a medium duty tractor/ backhoe and medium duty chains, the tractor's made by Ford or John Deere, they are more common than Bulldozers. I also noticed that the opposite (untouched side) looks like its slightly raised a few inches from the ties, it too is on its way out. I enjoy hearing your speculations as to what may have happened. We got to explore a few of these places in closer depth, that's if I ever get a chance to get to Florida. Keep up the good work! 👍😁

@@railrol82 You do an exceptional job yourself, while some of your theories are a bit wild, I never make comments on your speculations to sound negative in any way. What I can say in general, since most of these videos do encompass an "Abandoned or Dis-used Railroad line" then it is safe to say you will encounter constant damage and decimation, most likely caused by Hurricanes, flooding rains, decomposition time and general decay. As you stated yourself, these tracks have forged dates on them that go back over a century, being dis-used, badly weathered and not maintained (for obvious reasons) doesn't help with it's current status, (Obsolete for use with current Rail equipment), Again keep up the great work!👍😁

LOL well, I'd like to thank you for bringing awareness to that terrible disease which affects so many men! I never knew about it until l Googled it. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Rob. I hope all is well with you and the fam!
From the way the rail is bent at one place, it looks like someone may have tried to use that rail as an anchor to pull against. You can see where the rail is bent like a chain was wrapped around the rail to pull against it and it was pulled away from its spikes and tie plates. Do you see any scrap marks on the rail where some one may have hit it with something? I did not see any when you panned across the bent section.
RailROL82 For several years I was on an accident response team representing the B of L E, our union, which represented us Engineers. The RR would often blame derailments on train handling, when other factors caused the derailment. We were sent to a class to teach us what to look for.
With such poor tie condition it does not take much to move rail over. Could have been cleanup if those trees had ever lost big branches. The reason for those rail sticking up out of the ground is there had been a crossing there that was torn out. So people might have still been driving over the tracks and snagged a rail.

I've seen this done to abandoned train tracks before. Definitely looks like a dozer hit it. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if a group of "NIMBY"s (not in my back yard) hadn't hired a demolition contractor to destroy a portion of the out of service / abandoned tracks. I've heard of things like this being done to such lines in an attempt to stop an abandoned / dormant rail line from being reopened. Maybe a short line operator might be interested in providing rail service in the not too distant future, who knows.
I never thought a NIMBY would have the testicular fortitude to do such a thing! But I believe it, people are crazy these days. It might also be possible someone used this rail as a lever. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Josh!
Close, Andrew hit in 1992. This track wasn't in these conditions last year, some funny business definitely happened here. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Frank!
Since the damage area is next to a T intersection, I bet that a vehicle zoomed from the street going into the T, crossed over the street parallel to the track, and then hit with enough force to dislodge the track from the ties. Perhaps it was that proverbial "Florida Man" in a heavy pickup truck. ;->
LOL Andrew this is by far the most logical and simultaneously hilarious comment I've read. Interestingly enough a nearby resident told me about a location a few blocks South of here where the same thing happens. At night some drivers are unaware of this track and take it head on! Look for that in a future video. Thanks as always for the views and comments, hope all is well.
Since you said this is in Homestead-south of Miami-was this part of the line that went all the way to Key West way back when (going south), and where does this line go going north?
This connected to the line that went to the FL Keys, which was the FEC Overseas Railroad. I'll get to that connection in a few videos. North it goes all the way to Richmond, Va. Thanks as always for the views and comments.
My guess is it was The Hulk. He might have come there and given it a big kick.😃 I'm wondering the same thing. It might be either a semi going so fast or maybe it was the hurricanes.
LOL @ The Hulk! Someone said it could've been that someone used this rail as a lever which makes a lot of sense. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Kevin
I doubt that a car accident had anything to do with the bending of the rail in the current shape that it is in. A car's front end should clear the rail heights. My first thought is a flatbed truck carrying steel beams tipped over and sent the steel beams rolling toward the rail. The steel beams hit this rail and forced the rail to be ripped off the tie plates and bent this rail over the top of the other rail. Whatever carused the rail to dislodge and bend like that had to be a terrific force! Try checking with a local library or historical society to see if they have any information on why the track is in that shape in that location. It would be interesting to find out if therer is any information out there that would tell us what happened to cause this rail to be so out of place.
Someone had mentioned that it could've been someone using the rail as a lever, but then a nearby resident told me that at night some drivers don't realize there are train tracks there and drive into it head on. He also told me about a location a few blocks South of here where the same thing happens (future video). Thanks as always for the views and comments, Thomas. I hope all is well.
Yes sir, CSX still owns this line. This line starts at Richmond, VA and goes to Homestead, FL (just a few blocks South of here). Thanks as always for the views and comments, Jeff
Man! That's one strong place of rail as it didn't snap.it stopped whatever hit it as it didn6plow on through the pile driven vertical rails. Don't know what hit it I bet they sure as hell felt it. The rail didn't snap so what ever hit had to absorb that energy of force when the object stopped suddenly. I'm with you, there's no way CSX doesn't want to keep it up or abandoned it. That would cost some serious money to open this up and for what? Until Homstead develops a base that invites rail service back it just isn't going to happen. Bus lanes are just look goofy and waste of space. The material your state could repair existing roads.
Truer words have never been spoken about Bus lanes looking goofy and take up space, which I might add is used very inefficiently. Ironically, bus lanes are always empty and the roads next to them are overflowing with traffic. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Mike

That section is one that received the damage later. If you had filmed just a little ways further South, you would have seen the first section that was damaged like that. And yes, it was caused by vehicles and not derailments. People forget or don't know the tracks are there at night and go flying into it as side streets run at right angles to the track. The other was from the East at NW 10th St. Back when I lived on NW 9th Ave we had a vehicle hit the tracks at NW 19th St also. In fact, at the time we were the NW corner of Homestead. If you go up to 19th and 9th, you find that the street there is only a half width on 19th Street.

As you stated yourself, these tracks have forged dates on them that go back over a century, being dis-used, badly weathered and not maintained (for obvious reasons) doesn't help with it's current status, (Obsolete for use with current Rail equipment), Again keep up the great work!👍😁
More and more, it looks like this line will never be restored. I hate it!
I share your pain and disgust, Armando. Thanks as always for the views and comments!
Here in the philippines..railroad are not seen already coz they removed it and bring to the junkshop😆😅
That's interesting! So there aren't many railroads in the Philippines?
@@railrol82 plenty of raildroad here but they are selling it to the junk shop how sad it is..you will know if its rail road if you see the sign
'Railroad crossing' but there is no more railroad.
That's just a small section of narrow gauge rail.
LOL I like your glass half full mentality. A nearby resident told me that many drivers that come thru here don't see the railroad at night speeding, and take it head on. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Stevie. Long time no talk, hope all is well.
Another theory on the bent line is a train derailment accident back when the railroad was active and CSX never fixed, therefore abandoning the railroad.
A nearby resident told me that many drivers that come thru here don't see the railroad at night speeding, and take it head on. Thanks as always for the views and comments
if A car hit that the owner would have to buy A new one after that one
You're right about that! Thanks as always for the views and comments, Walter!
That bent rail has Peyronie's disease!
I think there's some medicine for that now. At least, the TV sure loves to show me ads for it!
LOL well, I'd like to thank you for bringing awareness to that terrible disease which affects so many men! I never knew about it until l Googled it. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Rob. I hope all is well with you and the fam!
@@railrol82 It is, senor, gracias! And same back to you, as always.
That is the most logical explanation I've heard so far, Bill. I didn't see any scrap marks either. Great investigative work on your part!
RailROL82 For several years I was on an accident response team representing the B of L E, our union, which represented us Engineers. The RR would often blame derailments on train handling, when other factors caused the derailment. We were sent to a class to teach us what to look for.
That's sad to see railroads abandoned. Some of them get put back into service and others seem to not return to service.
Sad but true, TB. Unfortunately nothing lasts forever. Thanks as always for the support of my channel.
With such poor tie condition it does not take much to move rail over. Could have been cleanup if those trees had ever lost big branches. The reason for those rail sticking up out of the ground is there had been a crossing there that was torn out. So people might have still been driving over the tracks and snagged a rail.
A nearby resident told me that many drivers that come thru here don't see the railroad at night speeding, and take it head on. Thanks as always for the views and comments,
Stan Lee
Considering it's been 5+ years since a train ran here who knows? Jokingly its the smallest flyover or perhaps the only sugar plantation railroad left in Miami(
LOL @ smallest flyover! You're the man, Paul! Hope all is well with you.
Somebody could have been driving a forklift and moved the rail like that
That is another possibility. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Matthew
Possibly hurricane Irma or any recent cat 5 hurricanes.
More like 5 cars lol. I found another spot down the road where the same thing happend.
Old rails and old heavy rolling stock
A nearby resident told me that many drivers that come thru here don't see the railroad at night speeding, and take it head on. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Lucky
Thanks as always for the views and comments, Josh!
liked video so ah mean something did that
Thanks as always for the views and comments, Brian!
Hurricane Andrew hit Homestead flush in 1994. Remnant?
Close, Andrew hit in 1992. This track wasn't in these conditions last year, some funny business definitely happened here. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Frank!
Guys, the train (or engineer) probably had taco bell.
LOLOLOL
Looks like those are severely rotted. That don't help. ROL82 add Reading Railroad, PA to your into. RR is a famous railroad.
Yes sir, that is such a historic RR, it is even in the game of Monopoly. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Kenneth
Are there plans to activate this rail line ?
None that I know of. CSX has shot down offers. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Sue
Would a freight train bounce more than Amtrak
I think so because it has a lot more weight behind it.
My guess is it was The Hulk. He might have come there and given it a big kick.😃
I'm wondering the same thing. It might be either a semi going so fast or maybe it was the hurricanes.
LOL @ The Hulk! Someone said it could've been that someone used this rail as a lever which makes a lot of sense. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Kevin
@@railrol82 That's very interesting!
Looks to me like it was lifted up and put that way for whatever reason...........who knows.
Perhaps the product of someone trying to use it as leverage. Thanks as always for the views and comments, CD. Hope all is well.
Does not the rail load still own that railroad line ? ROIL where does that railroad line from were to were its running from ?
That was from heavy Machinery.... Somebody had fun and I'm sure people saw it and said nothing.... That's fucked up
A nearby resident told me that many drivers that come thru here don't see the railroad at night speeding, and take it head on. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Thomas
It got hit by the Babalawo dubs!
LOL Maybe it was that runaway train with the bad spirits! Hope all is well with you sir. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Tony
I think it was an accident. Someone was hauling ass and didn’t realize the street doesn’t go through. And since this line is abandoned csx will not bother to fix it.👍🚂
Yes sir, I think you are 100% on the money with that comment. Hope all is well, DP. Thanks as always for the views and comments!
Maybe a large construction vehicle hit it or something?
A nearby resident told me that many drivers that come thru here don't see the railroad at night speeding, and take it head on. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Raffi
@@railrol82 There should have been a divider/barrier or something protecting the railroad from these accidents, just in case CSX decides to re-activate these tracks.
Damn, something sure ripped the holy snot outta that rail! I’d hate to see what the offending vehicle looks like after that one! But with those rotted rail ties, I’d bet odds it was some idiot speeding down that road after a long Saturday night who lost control and wiped out after too much beer and too little sleep or something equally dumbass like that. Either way, glad to see you finally posting-you’re late today, dude! Hope you’re okay!
As always, you're right on the money, DD. A nearby resident of this neighborhood told me that is a very common site and even showed me another spot further South where on a daily basis idiot drivers hit the train tracks (future video). My apologies for the late post, I worked late on Saturday night, so since I went to sleep late, I woke up late. All is well, thank you though. Thanks as always for the views and comments!
@@railrol82 The correct guesswork was probably a side effect of 22+ years as a volunteer firefighter-I’ve seen too many crazy accidents in that time. And yes, heard of quite a few involving trains in our area as well! Glad to hear you’re okay-everybody’s entitled to a lazy day, especially on the weekends! Stay safe out there, Roly!
Future of Homestead CSX Division??
That section is one that received the damage later. If you had filmed just a little ways further South, you would have seen the first section that was damaged like that. And yes, it was caused by vehicles and not derailments. People forget or don't know the tracks are there at night and go flying into it as side streets run at right angles to the track. The other was from the East at NW 10th St. Back when I lived on NW 9th Ave we had a vehicle hit the tracks at NW 19th St also. In fact, at the time we were the NW corner of Homestead. If you go up to 19th and 9th, you find that the street there is only a half width on 19th Street.
Caused by vehicles? I'd love to see what those vehicles looked like after ward. I just saw the other one from the East at NW 10th ST and wow, that one is serious. I can't imagine being behind the wheel of a car when that happens. Good stuff as always, Don! Thanks as always for the views and comments.
was it the Hurricanes that did it? they seem to be common there at the end of the Summer going into the Fall otherwise if not I don't know but now if they plan to Revive it someone will have to let them know about this before making the Line Active again with Trains otherwise most likely Derail the Train but also Damage the Front since the Rails go up and will Damage the Front of the Train!
You're right on the money, Sega. The peak of the season for hurricanes is from mid August to mid September. But this isn't hurricane related though. A nearby resident told me that many drivers that come thru here don't see the railroad at night speeding, and take it head on. Thanks as always for the views and comments
Well, one thing es for certain; it was not the local neighborhood "punks" who bent the rail like that. Probably a large piece of equipment.
A nearby resident told me that many drivers that come thru here don't see the railroad at night speeding, and take it head on. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Mike
Maybe it’s the zombie rr crossing coming to life, Remember The Last Comment I Posted?
Yes sir, I remember! Thanks as always for the views and comments, KK
Hey Roly! I would have to say a vehicle accident for sure. Possibly large out of control truck. The ties look pretty rotted, so the rail may just have come out at impact. Either way, vehicle would have been totaled. Great find. Thanks for sharing! Stay safe my friend!
Good afternoon John, and yes you are right on the money. A nearby resident told me that many drivers that come thru here don't see the railroad at night speeding, and take it head on. Thanks as always for the views and comments, my friend.
Will it be repaired?
What took you so long for the upload? I was getting worried. I didn't know if you got kidnapped or not. I knew that something was wrong since you always upload on time. What happened. Are you ok. I am just wondering because you never miss the time to upload. Friends look out for each other, am I Right. You are practically my best friend. There is very few people like you out there. You are quite the legend. Have you filmed any derailments? If not, this is a suggestion for you. You might think I'm nuts but I love to watch derailment and train vs vehicle videos just to see how the world can be a douche.
I appreciate the concern my friend. I had to work late into the night and went to sleep late and woke up late! I'm good though, thanks again
@@railrol82 your welcome
That’s how the rails were that were ripped up on one of the 90 degree lead track to a industry off the bergstrom spur in austin and they were all like that before they removed entirely. With the lack of grading to the track it gives me steam era vibes looking at those rails go through a neighborhood full of houses. Cool find!!!
Good eye, it is from the steam era, 1926 to be exact. A nearby resident told me that many drivers that come thru here don't see the railroad at night speeding, and take it head on. Thanks as always for the views and comments, JW
backhoe loader
Yes, but there are no tire prints or otherwise to show the presence of one. It may be that someone used it as leverage. Thanks as always for the views and comments!
Hi Roly: I think it had to be a derailment or a semi that caused the damage. A car is too light to cause that much damage?. Nice video thank you.
Good evening Ed, I hear you, that makes a lot of sense. Hope all is well with you sir. Thanks as always for the views and comments!
