Hi Rolly, facing south 3:08 minutes into the video, on the left side in the distance is that a new pile of ballast? Or someone's trash all over ? If it's ballast, something might be going on. Awesome video as usual my friend ✌️🍻
Hey Roly! Man, the growth is incredible. Such a shame to see nature reclaim the rails. Rail speeders is the way to go. Imagine the adventures to be had! Stay safe my friend!
They finished the pavement markings on the grade crossing and the advanced railroad warning markers. There is also a new round advanced railroad warning sign that is now up going eastbound before the crossing.
I know you’ve talked about the Homestead Subdivision and it’s crossings a lot, but I don’t get this: Why weren’t/aren’t the crossing signals and rails taken out if CSX filed for abandonment of the route? Seems surprising that the Florida East Coast Railway hasn’t picked up some part or as much remains of the subdivision.
My God Man! You mean to tell me, not only are they sacrificing chickens, but they're eating the railroad crossing , piece by piece? It's that creosote flavoring that gives it superb taste! It don't surprise me none! Lololol! 😁👍
Are there gaps in the rail south of SW - 288th or are the tracks just grown over very thick and can’t be seen by the Google earth cameras? I did see some rail still in place further south.
It is in such bad shape that if it is fixed it will be effectively building a new railroad, but my gut says it will be a new highway (SR 874 extension). I pray that I am wrong.
A few small customers would not justify reopening the line. An intermodal and auto rack facility in the Florida City area would justify the rehabilitation of the line. Another factor is that the population density along the line is not enough to justify passenger rail service along this abandoned line. The better line was the FEC line that was turned into a busway.
As recently as the ‘70s this line and the parallel FEC had auto rack and trailer on flat car traffic as well as more rock and conventional traffic than today. Some trains even required two locomotives.
Wow, such a fall from grace! Made it through the Great Depression of 1929 to this in 2021. CSX should be ashamed! Roly thanks for keeping us up to date about Homestead Subdivision of former CSX.
Like everything in life, it is a matter of perspective. A RR company is in business to make a profit, so I understand why they don't inject money into this line. At the same time, as railfans we are nostalgic
RailROL82 Absolutely. I spent over two years trying to save 34 miles of a branch main in Louisiana and Mississippi. Unlike there in homestead this track was in very good shape. It was at one time part of the Y&MV RR’s main line from Memphis to New Orleans. They had just put in 20,000 new cross ties, rebuilt all 23 bridges over nice creeks and rivers, in the mid to late 90s. All of the bridges still had crowns in them. The rail was 112 lb welded rail for 30 miles that was installed new in the mid 90s. The rest was 4 miles of 90 lb jointed rail. All the curves were banked and most of it had a 40 MPH speed limit on it. The company that owned it only wanted $3,000,000.00 for it. Which included some equipment. The good news was that the company that bought it pulled it up and it was relaid at another location. We wanted it to run a tourest railroad using our Mikado Steam locomotive, that was built in the Southern Pacific shops in New Orleans in Feb 1921.
My first language as a child was Spanish (Cuban descent), one way I used to practice English back then was to watch old tv shows and movies, I'm sure I picked it up from one of them lol.

Over the years Since it was decided that Tri Rail would be permanent, there has been occasional talk about extending it to Homestead, have you heard any thing about that?
Up here in Milwaukee they poured concrete for a sidewalk at a 3 track Xing that never saw a train again. Since that. Xing isn't marked abandoned or exempt the paving crew did it by the book and therefore the requisite markings are applied. Somehow Xmas turkey dinner is not as appealing after you view "One flew over the VooDoo mess" esp when the one CD is titled Yummy Yummy. If the downtown Miami 👧 were there then OK. I agree with you 100%! My hunch is that the minute that the Krome rock pit ceases to load cars, then the line will be replaced with the SR 874 extension. I pray that I am wrong.
