    • @armandoperez7967
      @armandoperez7967 3 года назад +2

      A few small customers would not justify reopening the line. An intermodal and auto rack facility in the Florida City area would justify the rehabilitation of the line. Another factor is that the population density along the line is not enough to justify passenger rail service along this abandoned line. The better line was the FEC line that was turned into a busway.

    • @armandoperez7967
      @armandoperez7967 3 года назад +1

      As recently as the ‘70s this line and the parallel FEC had auto rack and trailer on flat car traffic as well as more rock and conventional traffic than today. Some trains even required two locomotives.

      Like everything in life, it is a matter of perspective. A RR company is in business to make a profit, so I understand why they don't inject money into this line. At the same time, as railfans we are nostalgic

    • @billmorris2613
      @billmorris2613 3 года назад

      RailROL82 Absolutely.
      I spent over two years trying to save 34 miles of a branch main in Louisiana and Mississippi. Unlike there in homestead this track was in very good shape. It was at one time part of the Y&MV RR’s main line from Memphis to New Orleans.
      They had just put in 20,000 new cross ties, rebuilt all 23 bridges over nice creeks and rivers, in the mid to late 90s. All of the bridges still had crowns in them. The rail was 112 lb welded rail for 30 miles that was installed new in the mid 90s. The rest was 4 miles of 90 lb jointed rail. All the curves were banked and most of it had a 40 MPH speed limit on it.
      The company that owned it only wanted $3,000,000.00 for it. Which included some equipment. The good news was that the company that bought it pulled it up and it was relaid at another location.
      We wanted it to run a tourest railroad using our Mikado Steam locomotive, that was built in the Southern Pacific shops in New Orleans in Feb 1921.

It is interesting to see that the agricultuaral growers are creating weed-free areas near their properties. Nobody want to do anything clean up of the CSX right of way though. How long have those sacrificial chickens been on the ground near those tracks. The people who had those chickens sacrificed did not get their problems taken away since there has not been a train on the tracks in years. I am guessing that you have a few more street crossings to show us before we come to the end of the HOmestead Subdivision. Stay safe especially now with this new omnicron variant of COVID going around.

      @@nickastridandtoothlessthen5494 Nick, hope springs eternal. I would love to be positive but I have seen too much from the so called Miami Dade government over the decades. The new Krome crossing equipment, plus the upgraded grade crossing are going to waste. Also, in the ‘80s the FEC line in Dadeland was completely redone from Sw 80 ST TO Sw 98 St with all new grade crossings, new relay cases and crossing equipment, gates and lights and new 115 pound welded rail and concrete ties. I saw this myself at that time. Acquaintances have told me that the same thing was done at the Cutler Ridge area, and I believe them. All this was taken away and ripped up in 1988 and replaced with a putrid busway. The politicians are 100% anti rail and pro highway, busway and trail. They will block even rail upgrades but will move hell and high water to get a freeway built.

    The state should reinstate that line and they should take over operations that way speeders could use the line and interurbans

      If the CSX did let the state take over operations of some type of transit service the public would not be allowed to run speeders on it. Those two,operations do not mix.
