Starlink Roaming Experiments - Is Satellite Mobile Internet Here for RVers and Boaters?

- Over the weekend, some RVers and overlanders including Marcus Tuck, experimenting with Starlink noticed they could get service more than a few miles from their service address. When this happens, a new Roaming indicator in the diagnostics screen is set to True.
An exciting indication that Starlink might be experimenting with truly mobile satellite service!
However, it doesn't seem to be turned on for everyone.
What does this mean for mobile internet options for RVers and boaters?

Looking forward to the day maritime roaming works. Would love to buy a liveaboard and cruise the caribbean while working full time :)
Didn't realize yall were in Florida, I'm in DeLand.. Love your channel, I've mentioned your channel to everyone I know for the best up to date information on Mobile internet. Thanks for doing what you do, and doing it so well.
Works! Just installed on boat in Stuart Fl. Shipped to Maryland. Set itself up with the ap and terrific speeds. Testing off shore next week.
This will be interesting.
Just like ya'all we moved our dishy from an order in the PNW to SKP Saguaro, working great so far! The speed increase did prompt me to move to a larger throughput Pepwave setup, have a Balance20x on order to pair the speedfusion cloud bonding VPN with our Verizon PUDP and Starlink for a more robust Zoom friendly setup :)
That nice for y’all I can’t get Starlink mybe end of the year so that year and half
Sounds like its not quite there yet. But promising
thanks for the update. I think Starlink has a lot of potential but also a lot of challenges ahead, in particular solar weather/storms. The solar cycle is a real thing.
I have tried roaming and purposefully went to "At Capacity" and "Service not available" places and it still worked with no issues.
Signed up in Ohio Feb 2021 still waiting. Currently at 1.5 mbps for a great bargain of $117 per month from windstream. Fiber is about 1/2 mile from us and Spectrum only wants A bargain price of $50,000 to run to our house.
They need to work on the feature of delivering my damn dish!!
I currently have starlink and have had for more than a year. Plan on taking it full time RVing in the last quarter this year. Where do you find on the app that roaming is on/off? I don't see anything that referances either?
It's in the debug log.
How do I turn it on. Can't find it in advanced settings? I'm in a cell that doesn't show service and it's working 100% but wondering if I need to have a setting change
We sigened up on 2-10-21 paid the $99 we were told mid to late 2021 and we are still waiting. The Sterlink login Page now says April of 2022.
My service address is just south of Mobile, AL. Over the weekend we moved to just south of Memphis. Roaming is working for us. I tested when we overnighted in central MS and then set it up again here. My roaming flag is true, but unexpectedLocation flag is false.
3:50 not true, its available country wide. Starlink has published a coverage map now.
This video pre-dates that... for all our coverage: www.rvmobileinternet.com/satellite-resources
I see SL subscribers can/are changing their service addresses to get service at a new location but I’m curious if your OLD service address gets backfilled by another subscriber in areas where service is at capacity.
Only Starlink knows those details.. but it would be logical that as soon as a spot opens up, it can be filled by the next person waiting in line.
Thanks for helping me worry about my $99 deposit. If premium is required, I'm out.
That thing looks like a tanning bed for cancer lol jk but I hope they open this up for RVers!
If starlink doesn't allow worldwide roaming, it's inferior to an old iridium satellite phone...
Geez, I thought the whole point of Starlink was to have internet anywhere. Seems like a step backwards.
So a step towards getting internet anywhere, and not just a few miles from your location.. is backwards?
That IS the long term goal of SL. Rome wasn’t built in a day analogy comes to mind
go with systems that already allow this so tired of all the starlink hype, wondering how much these guys are getting paid to hype it..not a fan
