As I also own a GoPro, I can say these are indeed a great alternative, though the newer GoPro models do have some great abilities (and a much higher price). Hope you enjoy your camera and birthday as well!

Does the microphone work well is it loud
The mic demo in the video should have answered those questions. I assume you didn't actually watch it far enough. 12:06
I have a problem, my camera keeps popping up with an error to format the TF card but won’t let me format it, really weord
How do you attach the wrist strap to the camera with the waterproof casing on?
