While Tesla's FSD Beta 9 isn't out yet which will introduce Tesla Vision (and should be a biiiiig improvement) even the current version has no real trouble whatsoever with rain, snow and dirt roads. Lidar is easier to get working in the first place (that's why Waymo also chose it), buit a Neural Net which can rely on 3d data from vision will work better in rain. I mean you can also drive in rain just with your eyes ;) Waymo however can still figure this out.

It has "no trouble" with disengaging on rain/snow/dirt roads because it's already disengaged. Tesla isn't trying to solve the same problem as Waymo is, so comparing them doesn't make sense--Tesla is basically a fancy cruise control, not an attempt at L4/L5 driverless operation.
I suspect that the system would have (and did) work reasonable well despite the rain but disengaged out of an abundance of caution. Why risk a spotless record, especially with a living passenger inside. Testing during inclement weather is best done without putting customers at risk. You can see in the video that the system continued to sense its surroundings and plan its route even though it may not have been steering the vehicle.

Level 5 autonomous is the holy grail I think earliest that could be achieved is 5 years max would be 10 years. Level 5 the car drives itself anytime in any conditions there is no higher level.

Also why was the video speed up several times in wat seemed like an attempt of masking what the safety driver had to say or do, i only ask this part because i heard you say something about turning off the cameras at the start of the ride?
Alright alright here ya go: 1. It disengaged only because the safety driver told it to. What the car was about to do was pull over in a safe location. 2. Not masking anything, you can slow it down and see for yourself. I just sped up the boring manual driving and pointless small talk

It's the screen that sits on the back of the driver's/passenger side head rests and gives the rider info about what the car can see and what it's about to do. On the rider screen it will also show the LiDAR point cloud, which represents what the LiDAR can see in realtime
I noticed that there’s aftermarket tint on the front windows, why do they put window tint on the front windows of the car? I thought most fleet vehicles don’t have aftermarket tint, what window tinting company did the Waymo windows?
@@JJRicks During the day you can see the aftermarket tint, it’s not very dark but it’s definitely aftermarket tint, they never put tint on the front two windows at the factory, if you notice that the front windows look tinted, it’s aftermarket tint. I noticed the tint on the front windows of the Waymo. Look very closely at the front windows.
Hi. I don't know why Feedly is letting me see these videos early. It has perplexed me. The only clue I've had that something strange is happening is when I click the link in Feedly and the video is tagged "Unlisted" with "No views." The is no indication beforehand distinguishing it from your publicly listed videos. I've gone back, from time to time, to see if a video has since been listed, but, surprisingly, most have not. I've not shared any of these videos. That would be antithetical to the "Unlisted" tag. The only way I see I could avoid these videos is to remove your feed from Feedly, which would be a shame. Tesla AP can drive through pretty heavy rain with very low visibility and doesn't even feel it.. Waymo got LIDAR so it should be even more resistant? Or maybe it was something else, for example Tesla AP sometimes complains side cameras are blinded by aftermarket HID headlights at night and AP disengages..
Maybe you know better after using it before, but are you sure that100% of the picture on the screen is real time data? And not simply cars + stop lights that are realtime?
After watching enough of your videos I think its safe to say Waymo(Google?) has dumped way more money into this project than it will ever make back (Being they dont sell any patents developed and are just taking money in from riders)
