The more I study this, the more I find myself in agreement with the recommendations for the Vata type. Hot baths are glorious.

In snow country we bathe in ice water to close the pores and retain our vital essence. We pair this with a high consumption of fatty red meats to enhance our digestive fire and plenty of fatty nuts like pine nuts, hazel nuts and chestnuts.
Salt also aids the digestive fire.

I have recently found out that I am a Vata type of person.
I did have cold intolerance. But recently I have been taking cold showers as a way to help my body cope up with the cold environment. And it is working.
Now I find out that Ayurveda recommends hot showers for me. can someone answer.

The best daily Ayurvedic routine will always be to take 1 tablespoon (= 15 ml) castor oil early in the morning on an empty stomach. So you will not only be able to cleanse your bowels from all the waste but your liver from all toxins deposed there too.

Wouldn't it be bad for Vata to take a hot bath as it increases the dryness in the body?

+sylvia surfer I don't think it would be bad, I am sayin this coz I am a vata person myself n vatas in general can't stand cold climates... to the point of hating it. So, as advised by my ayurvedic guru, I warm half a cup of sesame oil (lukewarm) and apply it all over my body , massage it n then take a shower with warm to hot water, not boiling hot ofcourse, but moderately hot. N I find it extremely soothing.

+Beautifier Woman If you have the oil on your body first then it's perfect - not drying. If your Vata is balanced you should be comfortable in a cold climate - you might not love it but you would be comfortable.

+sylvia surfer You are right. I was a classic case of imbalanced vata (aggravated vata rather)...As a child and teenager, I had difficulty putting on weight, I was skinny and suffered from dry skin for God knows how long, had other typical vata related probs, my body constitution started changing only much later once I entered adulthood that is.
Right now I am a kapha-vata tells my doc... a combi of kapha + vata that needs to be balanced.
