Thanks for sharing . I've been doing Residential for builders. Driveways. Grub out. Pads. Footings Been through a lot of machines. Have an E55 excavator. S70. JD17G. John Deere 333G. Thinking about asv. Have to say John Deere service has been outstanding. These guys work around-the-clock. It's not cheap but they keep me going . show right up to the job site. But I sure like what I've learned about asv.

Thanks for sharing your story with us, I like many others (and yourself) have been interested for a good many years in forestry mulching so I enjoy hearing about the growing pains of start up small businesses
been watching your channel for about 6 months now, never had seen a forestry mulcher before, it is so cool, I am sure there is a whole lot of folks over there are glad you got started doing this, you make it look so easy and do a great job. never knew an over grown forest could go from jungle to park in a couple days, we have about 40 acres overgrown mess that could use a makeover....lol
FIRST THINGS FIRST! I PRAY TO THE GOOD LORD YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ARE SAFE FROM THE HURRICANE! PRAYERS FOR YOU AND EVERYONE THERE! Im an over the road truck driver. Ive been thinking about starting a forestry mulching business, to get off the road. Ive ran and maintained all kinds of equipment. I own my own truck and lnow maintenance is a DSILY battle. Most people dont even think about somethong as simple as tire pressure in thier cars lol. Run semi with low air pressure in your tires and see how long your tires last. A set of GOOD drive tires is between 6K AND 8k. I try and do as much maint as i can, but its hard when i dont even have a house to call my own, let alone a shop with a concrete floor out of the q Weather I basically live in my truck with my bulldog lol. Im 61 years old, but i still think i could do this business. Again, i hopw tou folks are safe. God Bless.

There's also another saying, don't try fixing something that isn't broken... Nice story John! Happy driving!
Thanks for the insight man, I'm in a similar boat as you guys were, thinking I should buy the cutter head, truck and trailer and then rent the track loader on a per job basis for a while until the bank roll is built up enough to buy one.

Man I'm a full time employee for the railroad but I work 7 on 7 off and I really been thinking about getting into this business. I'm located in houston tx area and I'm also avid hunter that knows how important maintaining shooting lanes are but not just limited to hunting camps.

Same deal with my landscaping business. I try to do most repairs in house. If I can get the part same day or next day then I will probably have it fixed faster then the dealer and definately cheaper.
I hate to say it, but you got taken with that Terex. Oh yeah, it was more powerful than the Cat, but the true test of a machine is not how powerful it is, but how much maintenance it will need. Everyone I know who has a Cat CTL (3 people) is impressed with the quality and low maintenance. And it gets the job done in a timely manner. Better to have a slightly underpowered machine than a machine that needs major repair after only 3,000 hours or so. As you know, the ddown time can really affect your bottom line, and that’s the most important thing. It doesn’t pay to have to keep renting equipment when your machine is in the shop. After awhile you’re just keeping your head above water. You are also right about the importance of a dealer. A lot of dealers are your best friends when buying, but total strangers when you come to them with problems. My goddaughter’s husband in France owns a Cat/Kubota dealership with his father. His motto is that they stand behind their equipment and will always come out on service calls. They even come out for service calls for brands they don’t sell - the thinking being that when you build a relationship, the next machine purchased will be your brand. They also try to fit the machine to the customer. The wrong machine can become a liability to the customer’s business. He even sold a few mini-excavators by having my goddaughter demo them to show how easy it is to operate. I don’t know if they sold more on the quality of the machine or my goddaughter’s looks 😂. I loved this video. You communicated all your points clearly and laid out the rewards and pitfalls of the Forestry mulching business. I would recommend this video to anyone thinking about such a career move.
Great channel very helpful I’m interested in getting into forestry mulching my self I work for Asplundh running a bush hog and would like to venture out on my own you answered a lot of my questions here thank you!

Thanks for the video. Yo bro you might want to get that cough checked out. I’m not a doctor but you have had that cough for months. Thanks again for the video.
You hit right on the head when you t Gomes to fix and working on your own equipment. The more you know and can do will save you money and time. In the lawn care business most will be equipment use it for e years and t j.g en turn around and buy new. When mowers go for 10 to 15 thousands man you better be getting more then 3 years out of them. Both mower I bought are over12 years old both running strong and paid for many times over. I can fix 95% on one and 100% on the walk behind. Great video.

John thanks for your info. Hard for me to hear with car noise. I'm looking to get one mostly for my property an heard you say 110 an 770. Not sure . Seems a lot of skid steers around. Heard you say one of your 120ASV went into limp mode. Sounded like a big job. Mostly looking for advice. They are renting 333G with cutter. 1400 a day. Seems like a beast
Very informative thank you. Is it possible to start from the bottom with a push bush hog and power equipment? One man operation I can’t afford big machines yet. Would I be better off renting big machines to start out or would It be possible to start the business small and grow it to where I can afford a nice tractor? Sorry for the rookie question really appreciate your videos
Good Info Just wandering what you think of the Kubota SVL95 with high flow also I know it does not mulch but what do you think of the Marshall Tree saw for clearing land Cost and Maintenance would it last
Kubota does not have enough horse power; I actually demoed one. My brother has a Marshall Tree saw sitting in his shop that we never use. It is too slow and you can't control the direction of the fall of the tree...I kind of forgot we had it. Haha.
Since you already have a Marshall Saw how about doing a side by side video showing each in action. Also I believe you take some logs to the mill already off each job site I assume and get some money back for them. Would Marshall Saw allow you to take more a get more money back? Using both sometimes would it save wear and tear on your Mulcher and Skid Steer Is the Marshall Saw easier on the Skid Steer Seems like less noise, vibration, fuel cost and environmentally more friendly. Still I understand a mulcher can do it all and a Marshall Saw can't
Maybe one day I can do a video of that. We do take logs to the mill only when we have to. It all depends on the job and if it will be a full load. I don't like grinding up good wood. I have the ASV to forestry mulch, not to run the tree saw. If there is something that needs to be cut we can usually cut it with the grinder or a chain saw a lot faster.
I'm currently looking to get into a machine but it wouldn't be dedicated to forestry mulching. I have been looking at the Tl10 high flow or cat299 but from your video I might avoid it ( something in the mid $30k range) I would be curious what head you might suggest. I am also not looking for something new, as i'm mechanically inclined and paying cash. Great video keep up the great content!
