the flat earth society has members from all around the globe
Love it!
LOL LOL LOL GREAT EDUCATION! Many people lack that!
You beat me to it!! It's an old line, the urban legend is it was taken from Flat Earth Society literature.
A tweet actually
truly great thinkers of todays society speaking out about the TRUTH that the earth is flat. thats why so many ships have sailed off the edge of the world and just infinitely fallen into the void of nothingness... wait what were we talking about again
Flatearthers....for god sake grow up, all you have to fear is sphere itself.
This is a good pun... well done, sir/madam.
*Emphatic Slow Clap 👏👏👏👏👏
Ha ha I liked that joke and im not easily amused.
Woo cool, a light.
I GOT THAT REFERENCE. Good old FDR, trolling flat-earthers straight from the grave.
I personally believe that 95% of flat earthers know deep down that the earth is actually spherical. They just like messin' with the rest of us.
Tubmaster 5000 then you haven't talked to them enough... I have... stay far away
Then you clearly havent interacted with any of them...
Tubmaster 5000 I used to think that about Alex Jones fans but sadly people really believe in these things.
Hahaha wooww I knew the flat earthers would migrate to this video but that didn't take long. We have a live crazy one here already! Try going back to school and studying basic science so you can accept gravity, then everything else will fall into place and your life might go back to normal since you won't be the insane person who thinks the earth is flat.
I didn't say "grade" school... Don't try to imply that's what I was saying. But yes, gravity is a basic concept that once you grasp, should clear up why Australian buildings wouldn't be upside down just because they're on the other side of the earth. BTW, how does it feel thinking that you're smarter than 99% of people on earth and are able to understand something that almost everyone else cannot because they're "indoctrinated"??
Don't call it a theory, call it a hypothesis. Calling it a theory gives them the false impression that every scientific theory is on par with the flat earth. I know theory = hypothesis in layman's, and theory = hypothesis proven beyond reasonable doubt with current evidence in science. But they don't.
Very true! I'm going to edit my comment and remove the word "theory".
It doesn't even qualify as a hypothesis.
@@declanp1 Very true, even a hypothesis needs to be backed by evidence. However, i believe there is only so far we can get with FE's.
Call it a dumb idea
While that is true, if they cant learn or comprehend that the english language contains homographs then they really only want confirmation of their bias anyway so... Darwin will get them eventually, when they dont read the 'dont place heater in bath with you' type warning stickers
Inb4 the flatards get here
I hate fat-shaming, BUT I LOVE FLAT-SHAMING!
I Don't Think That Even Qualifies As Pseudoscience...
What do you think science is, without the pseudo (edit) -suffix- prefix?
@Tom I Guess You're Right, It Just Feels So Wrong To Have That Kind Of Ideas Anywhere Close To The Word Science, But... I Guess I'll Have To Live With My Gramatical Concerns
@@TurdFurgeson571 I Could Look Up The Diccionaries Definition Of Science, But I'm Pretty Sure You Can Look It Up Yourself, What's Your Point?
The dictionary definition is not the point, nor is any of your grammar. You're stating that the flat earth hypothesis is not pseudoscience. It is. But you saying it isn't pseudoscience demonstrates that you lack a well grounded understanding in science. An understanding that not only enables you to know what it is, but also what it isn't (the pseudo suffix).
I could try to explain to you why, but without knowing where your gaps in knowledge are I cannot. I'm assuming a David Pakman environment is a place where people come to get informed. If I'm wrong in your case then I'll be on my way.
If you care enough to learn, then let me know what you think science is, based on your understanding and not a copy paste job from Google.
@@TurdFurgeson571 Well If I Can't Use The Google Definition The I'd Say Science Is Set Of Disciplines Based On The Use Of The Scientific Method That Try To Understand The World Around Us By Elaborating, Testing And Corroborating Scientific Teories Based On The Evidence Avaliable
The Himawari-8 weather satellite takes a non-composited picture of the whole Earth (Pacific side) every ten minutes, which are posted to the internet.
NelC looks fake to me😆😂🤣
i believe you could take these people out far enough to actually see the curvature and they would still day it's a hoax, that the windows are viewscreens or something
@NelC, I take it that the satellite is in a geosynchronous orbit?
+Richard O Indeed. Himawari 8 is a Japanese weather satellite, so it maintains a continuous watch over the Pacific in general and Japan in particular; pictures of Japan are downloaded every 2.5 minutes.
Unfortunately their number one argument is "that's fake", you can't reason with people that will just yell fake at you when you provide facts to back up your point.
6:38 Researching flat earth on RUclips is *not* a good suggestion.
Read some astronomy books, ffs.
Greater Sapien dose a good job debunking these guys.
@@myself2noone
flattards say we don't research, meanwhile they do all of their "research" on RUclips.
lmfao
@@myself2noone
Subbed to GS already, btw.
You can also see for yourself if you take a hike to a high enough mountain you can see the curvature of the earth. You can literally see it for yourself if you want to.
ZeptoCreations So happy I live at the base of a very large mountain. Great view!!!
Actually Zepto, you can't - but you can _demonstrate_ the curvature with even a fairly small hill near to the coast.
Not to mention the clear spherical nature of the moon....
how can there be mountains on a flat Earth? That's kind of an oxymoron.
I disagree the earth is so big you have to practically be in outer space to clearly see the curvature. Why higher than an airline altitude.
This truly is the stupidest time to be alive...
If the Earth isn't flat, why are your shoes flat?
*X-Files theme plays in background*
Sir, you have opened my eyes. Thank you.
Well the curvature of the earth over 1 ft (12 in) is something like 1/10,000,000ths of an inch.
The bottom of all my shoes are slightly curved
@maurer +Tremo Why can't you folks just face the truth? Open your eyes!
I hate your religion shut up.
Hopefully all religious people will get the flat earther treatment in the future. But since even some progressives are now attacking outspoken atheists, we have a long way to go.
Inertia only exists when there is acceleration. So the Flat Earthers would have explain what speed the Earth is travelling now, when it started accelerating (6000 BCE ?) and why it must be able to go faster than the speed of light? They deny the Earth is a globe, gravity, the speed of light and also the Sun is the centre of the solar system.
I don't usually hear the inertia argument, usually I hear the electromagnetism one.
At constant 1g acceleration, it would take a little less than a year to reach 99.999% c. And we all know the Universe is somewhere between 6k and 10k years old... heh.
The earth isn't flat! It's shaped like a donut! The edges are covered with chocolate and the center is filled with grape jelly. Everyone who's like a smart person knows this.
Flight times.
Flat-earth theories greatly distort many distances. Many flights would have to be supersonic in order for the flat earth model to be correct.
That's the quickest and simplest debunking of flat earth that I know of.
One aspect of this channel I find refreshing is the real, live human doing the talking, unlike “robot voice” videos like that abhorrent “History Official” FE garbage channel.
11:40 Just like religion
Been waiting for this one
"Why is Earth the only flat heavenly body but the other planets and stars spherical?" is what I would like to ask a flat earther.
I have been told by flattards that it is akin to a billiard table... we are on the felt and the balls are the heavenly bodies. Yeah, seriously.
I've asked this a couple of times, I haven't got an answer yet
I'm not a flatter, but how do you know the shape of the other planets?
@@jymbo1969 i was told by an evolutionist that birds of prey had bent beaks because their ancestors ran into rock formations. Actually he was my World History teacher. Yep. Rocks in the head, and they want us to repeat this shit? Lol.
@@bettertvreceptionwithfoilf7100, I guess you have never looked into a telescope or even looked up, you can see some planets with your naked eye at certain times
One of the more convincing arguments that doesn’t require a lot of math is airplane flight distances. Why can planes in the south fly so much further and faster than planes in the north? What about fuel? Why do they fly in arcs instead of straight lines if the earth is flat and the Coriolis effect doesn’t exist?
Tbh, I thought flat earthers were just people obsessing over the flat earth memes :/
*Photoshop an computer manipulated images didn't exist during the Apollo program.* But lets ignore that fact. Oh and the fact flat earthers will use their GPS without question.
You know that old argument, "just ignore them and they'll go away", please consider doing this. I mean, all we're doing is giving them some legitimacy by debating with them, and ultimately, nothing anyone says is going to convince them that they're wrong because they belong to a club where they feel special. When you know you're right, there's no need to argue because hey, you're right. So please, stop engaging with these saddo's.
Were that axiomatic we wouldn't have Trump as President.
*+jymbo1969*
That did cross my mind but I didn't want to talk in terms of anything else but these 'Flat Earth' idiots. Although, in some ways, I think a big part of the problem with the Trump movement was the attention it generated for the equally sad weirdos (to the Flat Earthers) that are his base. It makes them feel special and part of something that sets them apart, regardless of how ridiculous it is. And on so many levels.
I'm sorry but your comment makes you look dumb...And I'm not even a flat earther. Maybe the reason you can never convince them they are wrong is because you've never been able to prove you weren't. Is that why you'd rather not debate with them?
"When you're right, You're right."
What a joke.
Eratosthenes measured Earth's circumference back around 240 BC
Tychoxi And it was pretty close to modern measurements.
Gravity doesn't exist because of rotation, but because of mass.
So no Catholics no gravity? ;-)
But rotation does play a small factor in weight.
@Long duk dong Weight is the force caused by Gravity. Rotation doesn't have an affect on Mass directly but does have an affect on Weight, which is the measurement of the force Mass generates (Gravity). So pointing out rotation's affect on weight is both relevant & correct.
I never asserted rotation had a direct affect on mass, nor did I assert gravity and mass were the same thing.
So if there is a "moron" here it is probably the person with zero comprehension skills.
@Long duk dong Your lack of comprehension is showing again because I also never said rotation has an affect on Gravity. I only said rotation affects weight and it does. Since we are on the subject, Altitude also affects weight, because the further you are from the center of the earth is the more centrifugal force you would be experiencing from the Earth's rotation.
Gravity is constantly pulling you down (towards center mass specifically) while Earth's rotation is constantly trying to fling you off it's surface. Luckily for us Gravity is far stronger than the Earth's centrifugal force but the effects are measurable.
On the Equator, Earth's rotation reduces weight by 0.3%, this force decreases the closer you move towards the N & S pole. At the equatorial bulge (the Earth is not a perfect sphere) weight is reduced an additional 0.2%. At the North & South poll you would weigh the heaviest due to lack of rotation and centrifugal forces at those points.
I'm sure there are plenty of great books on this subject you would obviously find very enlightening. Perhaps read a few to prevent yourself from trying to incorrectly call someone out in a public space on something you obviously don't understand.
@Long duk dong No I was just trying to simplify things because even the simplest comment was going over your head.
Even though "Centerfugal" is considered a fictious force it is still the "apparent force" used in common conversations.
It is sad though now you are resorting to arguing semantics because all your original arguments have fallen to pieces.
So if you acknowledge Centripetal force is a thing and obviously Inertial force is a thing, why don't they both affect everything on a rotating Earth?
I should become a flat earthers, I hate being proven wrong, but if I just claim that any evidence against me is fake and part of a conspiracy then I'm never wrong
I've seen, specifically, heavy leaning toward flat earthism among the King James Only movement (Ruckmanism).
If the King James was good enough for our dear Lord, it's good enough for me.
/s
Some people actually believe the KJV was the original Bible, or that it was a "new original" replacing all previous versions (the former is ignorance, the latter is Ruckmanism in a nutshell).
God of the Gaps, right?
@DonQuixote DeLaMancha Create not a God in haste, lest you regret Him at leisure.
Flat earth is about not giving a shot like religion forming a group for fun, cash, and force...
Every job interview should include questions to disqualify flat earthers. A simple example would be "describe a flat-earth conjecture and give a basic refutation".
Eratosthenes discovered the 'circumference' of the planet with two cities, a stick and some geometry in 240 BC....

3m26s Did you just say your home country is Argentina? Just curious: is your David Pakman Show filmed there? Or, are you filmed in the USA?
If the latter, how did you get into the USA? Nothing wrong if you did. I'm just curious: HOW, given the EXTREME difficulty forced upon immigrants trying to get into the USA.
as far as I know he was born in Argentina and moved to the US with his parents when he was around 4. he lives in Boston and the show is filmed there.
I find it hard to believe that anyone really believes the Earth is flat. I find it much more likely people are just trolling because they enjoy arguing. I mean come on how stupid would you have to be to believe the Earth was flat.
Belief in flat earth is a great solution to existential dread. "We are living in a really special place, not on an insignificant little pebble floating in the vast darkness of space" is a powerful thought that seems to help some people to keep it together.
Especially if you couple it with religion.
I would really like to see their explanation for everything else in the sky being round, the moon, the sun, all the other planets.
But not earth, ofc, that one is flat, despite nothing else being flat.
It's ALL belief. You just think your religion is better.
What makes you believing the earth is round any different from them believing the earth is flat?
@@stonigee7997 EXACTLY. I may be ignorant enough to believe NASAs pretty photoshopped images for a while, and then i woke the F up. No way anyone's proven the shape but many want to tell us they know. No one knows anything other than what we can observe from here.
I served 12 years in the Navy. Out at sea at night it's pitch black. As you get closer to land you begin to see the lights of the city lighting up the sky. Eventually you get closer, the mountains, then building tops, actual lights etc.
Why do lighthouses have the light at the top? Why was the Crows nest at the top of a ship? Why do waring ships stay over the Horizon for cover?
I have personally seen satellites, witnessed rocket launches and in the military was a NBC warfare expert. ONE of the very first things our military would do if we found ourselves in a huge conflict is launch a Nuclear weapon into space to knockout the enemies communication satellites. Why would we have that as an INITIAL battle plan if satellites did not exist?
They claim the U.N. in 1961 decided to bar people from the arctic and antarctic because THAT is where the edge of the earth is. What about Captain Cook, Magellan, Columbus, Etc? They made maps of the planet and weren't involved with the U.N. because it wasn't formed until 1945
I proposed that we have 1,000 FE'S and 1,000 intelligent people pool $100 each and charter a boat and we can choose 8 people from each side and we go 300 Miles out to sea. In the night, when it's pitch black, we head to the coastline. Whoever wins the debate about the curve gets to split the remaining loot amongst themselves AND, I will not take a single cent.

Waw! and your ex comrades don't agree with you. 12 years of disinformation and indoctrination in the navy. You will be so mad when you realize the facts.
Certain things are so absurd, by debating them, you’re giving them credit. Don’t be too silly.
Don't forget. "Gravity is a myth, the earth sucks"
The Internet is making young people dumber.
It is so important to teach kids critical thinking skills early on. There is both correct and incorrect information and you have to know how to discern the difference. The world is full of scams. The internet is full of opportunists and trolls trying to make a buck off people's gullibility or fears. Borders on being a cult. "Everybody is lieing to you, but we offer the exclusive truth. Join us."
Discworld! 😂
It's a troll. There isn't anyone with a critical mind that is truly holding an opinion of flat-earth, it's just a number of people that enjoy getting other people that are not in to joke for a debate about nonsense.
"And there is so many people that have been to space, and all must be liers".Sure not, they just all forget theirs cameras at home.
I have my own published math papers in differential algebra that are a major contribution to society, to humanity, to our future.
I don't need to make up bullshit craziness to believe in to give me a feeling of holding special knowledge
So, flatties: HOW flat is the earth? You're right: the earth IS a little bit flat: its polar diameter is about 0.1% less than its equatorial diameter.
A third of young people don't know what shape the earth is.
We. Are. All. Fucked!
If the Earth was flat, cats would have knocked everything off of the edge by now...
Flat earthers should be very proud environment and against global warming because if the Antarctic ice melts, all the water on Earth will flow right off the planet. My God writing those words hurt my brain.
Everybody is wrong. The Earth is a doughnut. A warm and delicious doughnut...mmmm.
Are there any flat earthers in these comments yet?? I really hope they get wind of this video... I don't think David knows what he's getting into by making this video...
I always found their evidence to come across a little...flat.
I find it frustrating because it's difficult to fact check especially in real time and they actually managed to make consistent explanations that are simpler than the real explanations which are very complicated and in some cases require some number fudging to fit the spherical model.
Flatearth: Something left and right can get behind making fun of.
Whenever I encounter someone arguing that earth is flat, I simply don't engage to that since it's a game of pigeon chess. No proof and rebuttal is accepted so it's a waste of time.
I think it's time we stop trying to persuade flat Earth trolls. Enough time has been wasted trying to do so.
As a person who has traveled through many states, I can say without any reservation the Earth is not flat. Now, don't get me wrong, it would be nice if the Earth were flat. I would get much better fuel mileage from my motor home. But since I have to climb mountains, I can't see where anyone got the idea the Earth is flat. Well, except in parts on Western Texas.
Flat Earth is also mentioned in 5 Canto of Srimad-Bhagavatam
Ask them how deep(thick) their earth pizza is approximately, and what's on the opposite surface.
- If "momentum" is doing the work of gravity to keep us securely on this surface then the opposite face must be continually losing mass(matter) by the same argument and thinning out. Under that principle, flat earth should behave like a kind of comet-pizza trailing rock and ice from the underside surface like a giant tail.
Love the *"Pseudoscience Series"* you might want to do one on "Ancient Astronaut Theory/ist" that is prevalently being used in Ancient Aliens to push that what we can't explain today of the past or trying to rewrite the past that aliens is the answer.
And the whole Flat Earthers and including Ancient Aliens Believers, there are more people believing these nonsense than you know and isn't regulated to just a mere or small handful of people, as their Sold out conventions would attest to that.
At least believing in aliens is fun.
Many Flat Earthers also deny Diskal Warming.
Also, how do flat earthers explain that every other object we see in the sky are round, every object, except for the earth....

You need to be 35k feet up with a wide viewing angle and a perfectly clear day if you want to see the curvature of the earth from an airplane. Generally speaking, these are not the conditions you experience in a commercial flight, and when it looks like you're seeing obvious curvature it's typically an artifact of the window or camera. Earth is obviously found, but this example should probably be avoided.
I love how you felt the need to specify "the world is getting smaller, figuratively". I guess in a video that will bring out people who believe the earth is flat, best to be absolutely clear that you're not saying the world is actually shrinking...
David, I lead Astronomy and Cosmology study groups at my local college. While it is true that the Earth is a globe, you have repeated a misconception that is widespread and provides an easy target for flat-earth conspiracy theorists. This is the misconception that Earth's curvature is visible from a commercial flight. I have actually gotten the people at Brilliant.org to remove the same misconception. A commercial flight is simply not high enough; what you WILL "see" is an imperceptible drop in the height of the entire horizon all around the plane. one would need a stable theodolite or similar instrument to perceive this change, as this is an angle change in the vicinity of a degree or so. Here is my simplest argument that substantiates my point: if, in fact, the curvature of the Earth were visible through the limited field of view provided by the window in an airplane, there would not be a horizon visible out of the window on the other side of the plane, as it would have to curve away ("downward") from the view out of your window. Until one is far enough away from the Earth's surface to begin to see its ball shape, the initial perception of curvature is the same as a receding (dropping) disc, and this is not an effective way in which to argue a case to flat-earth conspiracists.
Let them, using science, prove that earth is flat. Don’t bother convincing them otherwise because, as you said, there’s so much prove that earth is a globe.
What is your best proof of the heliocentric model?
Unfortunately, we can't really see the curvature from your typical commercial plane flight. You would have to get up to AT LEAST 50K ft to even to start seeing the curvature and would really need to be at least double that for it to be clear there's a curve.
I'm skeptical about all of this "round Earth" stuff. But from what I've been reading, Michael Cohen and Paul Manafort just fell over the edge of the Earth.
Not a flat earther, but I just want to point out that your three easy examples as to why the earth is a sphere are weird. The New York bridge has several, much more conventional explanations, and I have never heard anyone successfully observe a curve outside of a commercial airliner. You'd have to go up pretty far to see a curve.
We are all born ignorant. Some of us dies more stupid then when they were born.
My father has one friend who recently claimed that we need to believe in the flat earth because the Bible supposedly says it is flat. It is very odd because my dad's friend is not a picture book Christian and does not care about many basic moral beliefs. But he has a tendency to believe in conspiracy theories and pseudoscience and annoys the heck out of my father with that. I think he still colors the edge of CDs with green edding because he thinks they will sound better (and that was an April's fool joke on a music magazine). He just seems to enjoy the feeling of being wiser than other people, even if thr truth is he is buying into nonsense.
Well whats interesting, that yes, bible actually kind of says that earth is flat. It mentions that earth is circular, aka flat disk, you can see entire earth from big mountain or tree, that it has corners, has pillars and so on. But at same time you will find Christians who will use bible to claim that it says that earth is globe... In general, bible says what you want it to say...
Didn't feel like citing Micheal from Vsauce's video? Good job
If a flat earther was to walk across Antarctica would they end up where they started, after a couple of years, or would they fall off the edge?

Post MORE of these videos David!
Why isn't the hallmarks of science proof?
1:10 is an illustration of an ordinary crescent moon, not an illustration of the Earth's curved shadow which can only be seen during lunar eclipses, and nowhere near as dramatically.
I disagree that the non-hierarchical flow of knowledge is all that good. Certainly we don't want to empower any class to hide information; that we can now explore all ideas much more freely is potentially positive. But it's ONLY positive if we have the critical thinking skills on our own to evaluate new information as formerly the information "gatekeepers" did for us. Some of us do, but it's become painfully clear that most people don't. And so, along with a vigorous informed discourse, we get Flat Earthers, QAnon, antivax, birthers, truthers, pseudoscientists, pseudohistorians, pseudojournalists, and nonsense of all stripes absorbed uncritically by large masses of people. This has become so overwhelmingly prevalent that it swamps any potential good that might have come out of our present information regime. The Trump presidency is a surer sign of that than anything.
So... is there decent RUclips money to be made from flat earth videos? Because I’ll play dumb for some cash.
Of course it's round, just look at a globe. That's why with the kids, there's no more globes in schools.
13:00 This is why I like the Flat Earthers. They're fun, harmless, and even raise some interesting questions about the nature of scientific knowledge unlike so many other recent conspiracy theories which are just thin justifications for hatred and cruelty.
Not harmless. They think all governments are out for them. Imagine if they had the numbers to get people elected!
I thought this was just another re-hash of this hackneyed topic, but towards the end, some good commentary. How the internet is "educating" the young in particular.
This is a decline in Science over the yrs.
I don't have faith in the scientific establishment, I have trust based on experience of it's success and the repeat-ability of scientific experiments. I don't have faith in my house lights, I have trust based on experience when I turn the switch the lights come on, short of burned out bulbs or power failures. This trust is also built on my understanding of how my lights work. My trust is also magnified by the fact that I am literally surrounded (clothed, housed, fed, warmed, cooled, moved, communicate) by successful technology based on successful science and my life and well being is constantly not just made better by the technology that is based on science, but my life is dependent on technology built on science.
This technology didn't get created by magic, it's based on science. Fields of science are interconnected and interdependent. Generally if one is wrong then the others would almost certainly be wrong. But that is not what we see. Scientific fields tends to reinforce the validity of other scientific fields through testing and evidence.
epistemological exercise.

The earth is a disc? Does it have four elephants holding it up while standing on top of a giant turtle flying in space, too? lol these people are preposterous.
Possessing the ability to disseminate factual information from BS is essential if you’re going to rely on the internet for your education. If you’re easily influenced by slick videos with cool graphics and clever use of moody/doomsday music, you’ve ripe for falling for conspiracies.
Umm. David are you sure you want to invest any time into this one?
Why do we even give any importance to this people!
