  • @geezzerboy
    @geezzerboy 6 лет назад +2

    A point to consider David. The British Royal Family has had a homeopathic Doctor for decades. Read up on placebos. When people do that, they generally say, "Why don't Drs just prescribe placebos (inert substances).?" I say, "Some Drs do, they are called Homeopaths." Our own placebo reaction is what should be investigated.

  • @hazenoki628

    Homeopathy is probably the "alternative treatment" that I have the hardest time understanding both why it (1) became popular in the first place, and (2) still has adherents to this day. It's just so extremely, mind-bogglingly dumb.

    • @CitizenGold
      @CitizenGold 6 лет назад +1

      It became popular in the first place because it was invented at a time where "practicing medicine" was at the very beginning of the "practicing" stage and quite often doing nothing was a safer option than going to a doctor.
      As for why it still has adherents... until we figure out a way to ensure everyone gets a solid education in science and critical thinking there will always be those that succumb to the Dunning-Kruger effect.

    • @hazenoki628
      @hazenoki628 6 лет назад +1

      Hey, the fact that the supposed "active" ingredients are hardly even there may be part of the explanation: other pseudoscientific treatments are more likely to cause harm by using methods that have an actual effect. I'd never thought of it that way before, thanks!

    • @CitizenGold
      @CitizenGold 5 лет назад

      "hardly even there" is incorrect. The active ingredient is literally diluted out of the final product (I refuse to call it a 'remedy'). There is *no* active ingredient.

    I admire David for learning some science in preparation for these videos. Still, I think running the script by a scientist would have prevented a lot of imprecise and specious wording, like "molecules of goose liver", "the atoms disappear from the mixture". I know I'm being picky, but it's really important to teach non-scientists that science isn't just about complicated ideas. It's also about careful wording, deference to uncertainty, and using judicious caution when making declaratory statements.

    Homeopathic medicine suggests that by diluting something over and over you are actually increasing it's potency/healing factor. Given that "logic" I wonder how *homeopathic surgery* would work... Let's say someone is rushed to a hospital with a single gunshot wound. Homeopathy would suggest that the best way to cure the patient would be to shoot him 1e+24 (10 to the 24th) more times in order to increase the maximum healing factor of homeopathy. Why haven't doctors thought of this?

    Actually, most homeopaths do not practice true homeopathy, which is based on the teaching of Hahnemann, an 18th century German. Homeopathy as taught in German institutes is quite a bit more complex than you describe here. In fact, many German health insurers cover homeopathic treatment - so they must have found some basis for its effectiveness.

    • @simstar6557
      @simstar6557 2 года назад

      Germany almost banned it because it has no effectiveness. Then Germany decided that it's not worth banning because people hardly use it anyway. Finally, complicated bullshit is still bullshit. Astrology is dumb no matter how many more rules one adds.

  • @earthcultr
    @earthcultr 5 лет назад +3

    You’re applying the laws of allopathy to homeopathy. Homeopathy is a branch of medicine that treats the electromagnetic aspect of the human body as opposed to the physiologic. Of course, when trying to encourage ligands binding to receptors, the more molecules of drugs present, the better. That said, succussion allows the energetic memory of the original substance to manifest stronger with each dilution. The reason why so many “debunking” methods fail is because the tester does not have the specific distunement that the remedy aims to cure. Your reasoning as to why homeopathy is pseudoscience is not based in the actual principles of homeopathy. Please do some research outside of what Big Pharma endorses.

    Your psychological health has a lot to do with your physical health. If you believe you are getting good and effective treatment for an illness, that positive mindset will help you to recover quicker. That's basically how homoeopathy works (if it can be said to work at all).

      +Space Wizard, "faith healing" is just as much a thing as homeopathy. If a placebo is what you need a nice cup of tea and chat with a friend will achieve the same thing.

      The best quality evidence we have, and there is a lot of it now, is quite conclusive in it not working.

    i wouldnt get to mad at people who use the word homeopathy they mean home remedy most of the time and those are proven by science to work most of the time like chicken noodle soup
    or some other stuff but they dont mean to delude things

    See Dr. Emoto's research regarding water having memory. Other fluids would likely have memory too, as a guess. The bottom line in reality is that what science doesn't know is more than what they know. Ask any scientist.

      See every legitimate research that says water does not have a mechanism for memory.

      Emoto's research was not on water memory. It was about "vibrations" and "energies" imprinting upon water as it was frozen.
      Just as plausible as homeopathy, but not homeopathy.

    sorry but ur very wrong about homeopathy. my mom had this allergy where if she ate even half a grape... just a half... her nose would start running like a tap. just unstoppable. she tried everything and nothing worked until she decided to try homeopathy. the pills really tasted sweet but what ever was in it, worked and helped her. she can now eat grapes as much as she wants.
    i ddont know the science behind it, maybe it was just the placebo effect... but damn it worked....

    I have a bit of personal experience in this since I regularly visit a homeopathic doctor. Obviously, the treatment I've been receiving is working for me. This is only because I'm a relatively healthy person, and the only real issues I have are anxiety and vitamin D deficiency. These things can easily be handled with vitamin D supplements, and herbs like valerian root.
    Basically my point is that not everything needs to be treated with prescription drugs. Consider seeing a homeopathic doctor for things that don't really need immediate attention, and are not extremely serious. Balance is important.

      pls restore common sense let’s just deal,with this as swiftly as possible. Neither vitamins nor herbs qualify as homeopathy, ok? Watch the video, look up homeopathy on Wikipedia, and then delete this comment, it is literally irrelevant.

      Julian Walker I watched the video. I know what he's talking about. I just figured I would bring up something similar. There's the kind of homeopathy that david talks about, and then there's the professional version of the practice that a few states have decided to legitimize through allowing doctors to be licensed homeopaths. I just thought I would share my information since the 2 practices share a name.

    • @alanquintero7

    • @The_Food_Police
      @The_Food_Police 6 лет назад +1

      Rivai K. Yes, I'm aware that I'm talking about herbal medicine. It's just that there are alot of legitimatic licensed practices operating under the name "homeopathic". So, I wanted to make the distinction between the obviously ridiculous side of it that David points out, and the real health care facilities that are actually out there.

      no offense, man. you just are incorrect. homeopathy is something very specific. a lot of people think anything that is not evidence based so called "western" medicine is in the category of homeopathy, but that is easily understandable as wrong with just a little education on the topic. there are herbal remedies -some of which work to some extent and end up becoming recognized as actual medicine, but most others are unsupported by evidence and rely on anecdote, vague claims and placebo. then there are vitamins, which are probably more effective but have been the subject of several exposes in terms of a fraudulent industry that often packages products without any of the actual vitamin claimed to be therein. in both of these cases we are talking about actual substances that are being touted as active ingredients which cure certain conditions or reduce certain symptoms. homeopathy is even further out there in terms of the explanation you hear in the video. essentially homeopathy has no active ingredients as they have been diluted far, far beyond detectable levels, and the ingredients in the first place are even less supported by any evidence whatsoever to have any effect on the conditions for which they are recommended, even if any tiny micro-molecule was actually in the remedy. while vitamins and herbal remedies still operate in line with basic laws of chemistry and biology, homeopathy in fact contradicts and is not consistent with anything we know about physics, chemistry and biology, and has been shown to not work at all. occasionally herbal remedies are proven to be so effective that they cross over into becoming used in actual medicine, and some doctors will also prescribe vitamins as part of an effective treatment plan for certain conditions, homeopathy on the other hand never has and never will have a single remedy recognized by medical science, because it is 100% hocus pocus nonsense based on absolutely nothing substantive, literally. ;)
