This video is part of a series - 'The History of Byzantium goes to Istanbul.' In 2018 the listeners of the podcast funded a Kickstarter to send me to Istanbul. I documented many of the surviving Byzantine sites and have made videos about them.
I am now able to offer tours to Istanbul (and beyond) for listeners of the podcast. Email me if you'd like to know more (thehistoryofbyzantium at gmail.com).

For more information about Byzantine Constantinople visit www.thebyzanti.... It's a fantastic website providing breakdowns of the Byzantine buildings that can still be seen today and there you'll find most of the still images and sketches used in these videos.
'The History of Byzantium' is a podcast telling the story of the Roman Empire from 476 AD to 1453. The podcast home page is here thehistoryofby... and you can support the show at / historyofbyzantium

Excellent vlog. Thanks for your hard work.
Great that those vlogs are here. now i know what we waited for during december :D
amazing thank you!
Splendid job
It is kind of sad that the Hippodrome did not survive like the Colosseum did.
I really wish that we could see the other monuments😢 but atleast we still have some monuments left to learn about ❤
Niestety, kiedy zwiedza się w Stambule miejsce, gdzie był hipodrom, to widzi się egipski obelisk i tablicę, nic poza tym. Trudno sobie wyobrazić taki hipodrom jaki został pokazany na tym filmie.
The barbarians took over
It was destroyed by Crusaders. Catholic Barbarians strike again. When we entered, it was already in ruins
@@MertPapazogluwhy didn they rebuild it in 1500s
@@crazygamingyt7245 they turned it into a public square instead. I don’t think the Ottomans liked horseracing (which is weird because Turks love racing horses)
@@crazygamingyt7245 it was in a very bad condition because of barbaric crusader christians. Turks did what they could to recover the city and as it was a 60.000+ stadium it required massive amount of resources. Ottoman Empire was at the initial stage and decided to spend the resources for other things
