To soon being worshipped as the hero he truly deserved to be in this story. Not completely absolved of his past, but willing to learn from his mistakes and move on for the sake of his friends... And his son.
Can't help but remember Odin mocking Kratos not knowing about a mortal worshipper's love and devotion to gods. It true that Kratos doesn't know it in greece, but now he can finally experience it while protecting the 8 realms.
13 year old me back in 2005 playing GOW1 on PS2 never would have imagined that the series would evolve into this almost 2 decades later. Truly remarkable.

The one spike room that required a glitch to get past because Kratos couldn't actually make the jump, the final levels with the spiked wall and the blasted spiked rotating floor things... UGH. It was SOO good until then. About halfway point we had a few hiccups, but the first game ended so painfully.

I was shell shocked by the fact Brok died. I swear I kept dead silent throughout the game till I killed Odin. Man I wished we got the option to kill him in Zeus GoW3 style, but it would kill off Kratos’ idea of being better.. Well, least the ‘All-F**ker’ is dead. We miss you Brok

An interesting fact: In norse Mythology Freya was married to a man called Óðr which character description is similar to Kratos. With this man she had twin daughters called Hnoss and Gersemi. It would be probably easy to replace him with Kratos, because the character of Óðr wasn't really important in the mythology. (and a little additional fact: every time her husband was gone, she missed him so much, that she cried golden tears)
From the perspective if this game, I don't see it. I had a tough time imagining her ever calling the man who killed her son a friend, regardless of the fact that it was the right thing to do. I'm impressed that the story made it make sense on an emotional level. But I still don't see her ever loving him, not like that.

The look Kratos gives the mural of himself hits hard. It’s a look of not only shock, but humility, he never would’ve imagined people worshiping him not as a destroyer God but as a savior. It’s an outward reward for the inner changes he’s gone through. It’s really dope to see him really win and be his own man instead of the monster the Gods tried to make him.
@@garciaalexanderdean8728 yessss. First, I was like "wow. She really believed in kratos, enough to think highly of him that people would/should worship him, love him. But then it hit harder, because regardless of the other people, SHE worshipped kratos, and that's all that mattered to kratos. With this, he gets his peace, and finds a path forward, a path of love and guidance.
For me the cool part of this game too is the fact that in Greek mythology when Cronos killed his father Uranus, Cronos family line was cursed with the cycle of patricide (where the child will always kill the parent) Cronos died by Zeus and in GoW Zeus died by Kratos. So Kratos was destined to die by Atreus. By hiding the truth about his past from Atreus in the last game Kratos was also trying to spare his life too hoping to avoid the "cycle". As Kratos would echoe Zeus' words from the 3rd game "The cycle ends here." When he killed Baldur. And Kratos said earlier in the game "nothing is written that cant be unwritten". And Mimir also said at one point that "the Cycle of Revenge is not so easily broken." But Kratos chose a different path not taken by his previous family line of fathers. A path of leading him to forego his own self interests to a one of love for family and others. Best part for me is that, for Kratos the cycle did end here.

I found it so touching that Freya says "There is comfort in the family I have chosen". Kratos, Mimir and Atreus are more family than...her own family. Freyr always gave her the stress of leadership, Baldur resented her and tried to kill her, and Odin, well...Odin. The only bad thing Kratos and Atreus have done is kill her son. And even then, they did so because he was trying to kill her, not to spite or hurt Freya. They helped her into a path of forgiveness, and helped bring back her old self. By forgiving them, she forgave Freyr and Mimir. In Midgard, when you see Baldur's dead dragon, she asked what happened. After Kratos tells her, she outright takes his side over her own son's, which I'm shocked wasn't put in this video. "The things he put you through..." To say Freya has forgiven Kratos would be an understatement, needless to say.
What i love about old man Kratos is his restraint. He CAN rip the heads of everyone he meets but by his extreme patience and his willingness to change, he redeemed himself for the better.
In the Thor fight it was evident. Thor ticked him off and instantly cost a tooth. Usually a punch that can break a tooth, if aimed slightly differently could kill
Yeah like with the fight with Heimdall. He told him he could walk but he didn't give him a choice in the matter. Kratos straight told him stop and you can live and Heimdall chose to keep going. The old Kratos would have sliced his head off and kept going

Poor Kratos, that scene of him quivering at the thought and reality of him being a savior just hits right in the feels, for the longest time he was known as the destroyer of worlds and now he can rest peacefully now.
Seeing kratos cry and the savior of the realms is a true meaning of redemption. Kratos went from being a threat to all existence to being a the sign of hope
What I love about these games are the amazingly competent details in speech and body language. When Kratos looks at the mural he averts his gaze from the image of himself once he realizes what he's seeing. He gets close and touches it as if he needs to know it's actually there, or perhaps he's afraid it will somehow slip away and disappear. Kratos, who always stands tall and straight in his posture to the point of almost looking strained at times, who always straight at whoever he's talking to, shrinks down before the representation of himself as a benevolent deity. Rather than confidently raising his head, as he always has - be it titans, forces of nature or gods themselves, he can only manage a short glance before he again averts his eyes. It also ties in to show what a master Odin was at getting in peoples head and manipulating them, striking hard at their deepest doubts and desires: "And what kind of God is that, Kratos? What do you even know of Godhood? In your lifetimes, has anyone ever worshiped you? Ever prayed to you? Can you even imagine that kind of love? No. You don't care about mortals. You don't care about anything beyond yourself, beyond the monster who kills without cause. You fear what you can never even hope to understand."
Kratos a god beloved by the people of midgard and the nine realms for saving them from a tyranical psychopathic ruler. Sort of hard to believe this is the same person who caused the destruction of greece just for revenge, and now he saved anothr for justice
@@gjfjfkdksdjjdkeke1309 You are right in principle, as he was very much worshiped as a God in Sparta as seen in GoW2 a Ghost of Sparta. However, I think it's a matter of perspective. The Spartans loved Kratos the same way a warrior might love their sword. They love if for what they can do when they wield it - for the enemies they can kill with it and the riches they can obtain. They don't love the sword itself, any sword will do as long as it's sharp and kills. The Spartans would have "loved" any God that gave them power. The Spartans never actually loved and prayed to Kratos - they loved and prayed to the God of War, whom happened to be Kratos. They simply could never have actually loved him, because he never stood for anything other than a hate, anger and destruction. What Kratos wants is for people to love Kratos because he is Kratos - Because that would mean he could change, that there was more to him than bloodshed, that he could be more than a sword - That he could be better.
Odin definitely didn't get into Kratos's head. Not like that anyway. Kratos is probably the only one not manipulated by Odin at all throughout Ragnarok.
I’m almost convinced when Freya told Kratos that she would’ve “beaten him” she had to be flirting. Because ain’t no way after seeing what Kratos is capable of, she truly thought she could’ve beat his ass 💀
The funny thing about what Freya said, she may have well in actuality beaten him. And not because of Kratos having gone soft and is completely infatuated with her, but for the sole fact that Kratos is no longer in his prime and has all of the olympian powers he acquired after greece fell. Freya stated that magic is bound to the earth, so when Kratos killed "all" the olympian gods, greece fell, and with it all his acquired magic powers having gone along with it. But I guess this is dependent on one's interpretation off what Freya meant by her quote.
@@Evil_Beauty What the hell are you talking about? Kratos hasn't gotten weaker. He's stronger than the previous games. The creator even states so. He is always holding back because he doesn't want to be the God he once was.
The way Kratos holds his axe, moving it in his hand as he says “Have you decided?” He is praying they don’t fight because he knows he’ll end up killing her, and he will never forgive himself for it, but is still ready to do so, so he would live for his son. I love the small details like this that help match the way the scene goes.

In Norse mythology, Freya is supposed to have 2 more daughters, Hnoss and Gersemi, later in life with Odin or a different interpretation of him. Guess who else looks like Odin.

I just wanna make this clear for those that don't understand.. the reason why that moment where Kratos lays eyes on "a path he could have never imagined." Is so iconic and touching, is because this is a man that was tormented his entire life and all he has ever seen and experienced for a long time was bloodshed and though he felt accomplished in his goals he has achieved, he has always been tormented by the thought and experience of him killing his daughter and wife and will always be haunted by this due to the Ashy grey skin. (Literal ashes of his family) the moment he lays eyes on that "forward path" he has finally felt peace within himself to know. He has done better for his son, Atreus. Though the thought of his previous life in sparta will never leave him, it will always be an experience that will keep him human as he lives as the new god of peace and tranquility. Anyway, sorry for that, just love deep moments like that.
Kratos and Freya make the perfect couple in God of War. All of the other conquests Kratos indulged in just don't have the same presence, and just makes you wish that those two consumated simply because it would have been right.
I've never known a man to a woman to drop a soldier strap after killing her child. Most men would have respect enough to not entertain the idea. This is pure power fantasy.

I love how well they did kratos from start to finish the man went from an absolute wave of revenge and anger to a father with a very dimensional persona. Very well written story line
He’s always been a father first and foremost, that’s why he was always angry, the gods made him kill his first wife and kids, then they betrayed him after he just wanted to demolish Ares, then Zeus takes him from a surrogate daughter in Pandora Not to mention the QTE with him having to abandon his daughter, one of the best things that happened to him and he can’t even die in peace with her
I hate how folks think he wasn't dimensional in the previous games like he wasn't suicidal, drowning in remorse, trying to hold onto his humanity as the gods ruined his life over and over again. You don't have to be "morally good" to be multidimensional bad guys can be that too.

@haxsvg9372 To be fair, Sparta would have been alive after Kratos traveled back in time to when he died for a second time and defeated Zeus before he had a chance to do anything with the blade of Olympus.
Kratos married Faye because she was like him , she too did horrible things and even fought thor and became an outcast . she knew what kratos felt and thats why it worked between them . Freya and kratos are just like that too they both know the pain of losing a child and they both seems ok with each others . Kratos especially surprised me when he defended her over and over he actually do care about her and that is VERY rare . she is like Athena but less manipulative . she is better than athena in everything . she doesnt look down at kratos she see him as an equal , as a commander and as a god
I doubt they’ll continue the main series with Atreus/Loki. If they do make a game around him, it’d probably be a spin-off called “Son of War” or something like that.
See if he doesn’t become a happy go lucky character with goofy ahh powers getting into goofy ahh scenarios in the next game if there is one I’m gonna cry
I love how their relationship is kind of like maggie and negan's relationship. Kratos kill a loved one in front of freya and now they're allies. Negan killed a loved one of maggie and now they're allies. And one part of both maggie and freya wants to kill the people who took a loved one from them, but the rest of them doesn't.
It may evolve in to love but considering that freya will most likely be occupied rebuilding vanahein and alfheim, not before quite some time has passed

I know Kratos still loves Faye and it will take long for them to move on from their pasts but I do believe with time they could grow to be a very strong couple and make each other happy for a long time. They can improve each other, Freya teaching Kratos how to go about his new role as the god of peace and Kratos teaching Freya not to be so attached to the things she loves in fear of losing them. I don’t know what we’ll see in the next god of war game but it would be lovely to see.
I don’t really know if there’s gonna be another one. I’d be happy if Kratos’ story ended with him finally at peace, and being worshipped as a God at last

To be honest with you I would love to see Kratos befriend Anubis and Anubis bring back Calliope, only to bring back the whole Greek pantheon to try and kill the God of War not knowing that he is the God of Peace now. Also I want to see a battle between Zeus and Athena vs Kratos and Freya. Don’t get me wrong I love the new Kratos but I want to see him beat the ever loving fuck out of Zeus again lol.
Kratos crying really made me tear up. I've been playing this character since day one, all that he knew was pain, suffering and rage. And now he finally has absolution, he's getting what he truly deserves and it's beautiful to see how impactful his journey's been. Wonderful series of games honestly

Christopher judge did an amazing job with kratos but for me sindris acting is phenomenal to change from a naive friend to a sad broken person it was the best acting in the game for me
I want to say he stole the show, and in 99% of other games, he would have. But this one was full show show stealing moments, and so many characters with pain and depth.

As much as I don’t want it to be, this is the perfect ending for Kratos. I like to imagine future games will be a big brother/little brother or sister dynamic between Atreus and a little Fre-tos
Now that I think about it, I kinda wish if Baldur didn't want revenge on his mother and didn't act the way he acted, he'd probably be a big brother figure to Atreus.

Kratos: -Ragnarok will not bring back what you have lost. Myths: -are you sure about that??? Expalining: in myths Baldur comes back to life during the Ragnarok. And survive it. If i remember correctly his goal is to take Odin's place.

i could be wrong on this but i think theres a line in god of war 2018 where they mention that magni and modi didnt go to Valhalla and that theyre permanently dead, could be the same case with baldur
Damn that final mural is so touching my interpretation is that after many struggles and rebuilding Kratos gets recognized and idolized a the hero he never thought he would be.
The Across the Reams Favour really parallels Kratos and Freya journeying together. It could possibly hint at something more than friendship in the future.
"You helped me spread my 2nd wife's ashes, will you help me spread my 1st wife's and daughter's?" Like just once could he have told anyone, especially her how he's cursed to carry the ashes of the wife and daughter he killed? Plus went to be with his daughter only to leave her forever to save her and all creation. No wonder Atreus is so safe
In Valhalla, "Helios" says he can faintly see "some" of the ashes. I take it to mean the actual ashes aren't there anymore, but his skin just looks like that now.
Whether or not it actually becomes canon, I can see Freya and Kratos ending up together. Although I’m agreement with the noromos who believe that men and women can be friends, I do believe romance is a plausible path for Kratos and Freya despite him killing her son, their own traumas, and grief. One of Kratos’ most defining character traits is that he doesn’t trust gods. Even in GoW (2018), he stresses to Atreus not to trust gods, which later included Freya. He’s angry because she omitted her true identity, which circumvented him avoiding her altogether thus establishing the beginning of a friendship and trust of sorts with her. And this is important on many levels: 1. Freya was at an advantage and Kratos was at massive disadvantage. 2. He got to know her to an extent without any presumption on her character and intent. 3. She got to know him to an extent without his guard up. 4. His instincts (and Atreus) opened himself up to trusting her. We see that Kratos typically has a good read on situations and people, esp gods. So when Freya omitted the truth, he was put in the situation to trust a god again, which angered him. It wasn’t a true deception, but the principle of the matter. This key moment in the relationship actually sets up so much between them because, despite Freya not being forthcoming about her identity, she did nothing wrong and Kratos was the one in wrong. This later prompts Kratos to reflect on his behavior when Freya helps saves Atreus’ life even though she didn’t have to. When he apologizes, she says this, “No. You were right to distrust the word of a god. No need to explain. Not to me. Not for that.”
At this point in time, Kratos knew that she spoke from experience. She wasn’t blowing smoke up his ass or trying to make him feel better. She got his distrust on a visceral level because she went through SEVERAL betrayals of her own at the hands of a god who was her husband at that! Even though he’s heard stories about Freya’s marriage to Odin and the events leading up to it, why she agreed to it, and why she stayed, hearing her wave off his apology and understanding the context made him see her in a new light. She wasn’t making him apologize for something that evolved into a survival technique because she learned all too well herself. He hears the sadness and melancholy in her voice-the pain that sticks with her. Throughout the story, Freya helped him without asking anything in return. Her assistance and friendship was genuine. But the one thing she did ask, Kratos didn’t honor. This is all important because moments prior to Baldur and Freya’s reunion, he and Atreus weren’t even sure they could trust her. Then, when Kratos saw their interaction: Baldur’s eagerness to harm Freya and her willingness to accept said harm even if it meant death. He kept trying to mind his business, but ultimately deduced that Freya didn’t deserve that fate. In a sense, he’d been in her position before. He understood what it was like to make decisions you can’t undo. To hate and punish yourself. To want to protect your child at all cost, but at what cost? Hasn’t she suffered enough? Why did this have to end in her death, esp when Odin was responsible for most of her suffering. Baldur was the only bright spot for her in a toxic and abusive marriage-her judgment was clouded due to all her pain, suffering, and losses.
Because Odin stripped her of almost everything minus life…piece by piece. She can’t leave home-bound to Midgard. She literally can’t defend herself, despite being a skilled warrior, which she prided herself on. Despite her circumstance, then and now, according to Mimir’s stories-some of which he experienced himself-she was a largely good and kind person and god. Unlike, the gods in Greece and even her former husband. Only to be robbed of her agency and safety. Even though in the beginning of the friendship, Freya is the one with the upper hand, by the end of it, Kratos is the one with the upper hand. Freya knew he was a god, but she didn’t know his backstory. Kratos knew all about her in a sense, which is why he’s able to be compassionate and understand that she’s punishing herself for more than Baldur’s fate. Despite only knowing her for a short time, from the moment he decides she doesn’t deserve to die and was dealt a shit hand during her marriage and made a tragic decision that led to “losing” her son, he basically vows to never allow harm to come to her. He considers her his friend even though she hates him after he killed her child. Even though she has vowed and tried on many occasions to murder him, he refuses to see her anything but as a friend who is experiencing extreme guilt and grief. Interestingly enough, we see Freya’s perspective shift even before she finds out about Calliope. Kratos saves her life from Atreus and says, “she was our friend.” Freya was determined to see Kratos as this evil, selfish guy and, even in that moment, she sees the gentler, compassionate side of him. It frustrates and upsets her, but she changes course because it’s all too much for her at that moment. She also knows that while her present misery is due to Kratos’ actions, he’s not the true reason behind her misery and unhappiness. In addition to finding out about Calliope and the circumstances leading up to her (and her mother’s) death’s, she’s also being worn down by Kratos and his reason. This is a man who’s traveled down the road she is on. He’s been there. And the thing that she’s promising herself will bring her peace so to speak, she know isn’t true. The more Kratos refuses to let it go, the angrier she gets. She’s largely had no control over her life for just about a century and the one thing she does have control over (thinking she could kill kratos) is something she deep down knows won’t settle her spirit. Once she actually gets her freedom with the assistance of Kratos, it’s then she admits to herself that she can’t kill him, despite her urge to. And she can’t forgive him because he took away her child-he took away her choice: her life so that Baldur could live.
In the journey, something else is established OR, to be exact, it’s re-established: their trust in one another. Not only has Freya notice Kratos’ consistency in being honest with her and respecting her decisions, he’s a man of his word. He also allows himself to be vulnerable with and around her. That’s not the same Kratos she met years prior or the one who was angry after he found out that she omitted her godhood to him. Despite the things she’s said and what she’s tried to do on many occasions, he’s always respected her and never treated her with anything less than that. He is not Odin. The things her ex husband punished her for and exploited are things Kratos’ values about her and still sees her as even when she was on her worst behavior. Admittedly, people can still be friends with someone (again) who wronged them. However, I find it difficult to believe that Freya can be friends with Kratos again even though he caused her immense grief if she hasn’t fully forgiven him. Grief that led her to trying to murder him on many occasions and directly put his child in danger who she very well knows Kratos doesn’t fuck around about. If Kratos can not only forgive her for that, but not hold it against her, why can’t she eventually forgive him for killing Baldur esp when it was to save her life? I’d argue we see that after Freya is no longer bound to Midgard. Throughout their journey, we see that she is largely by his side even when she doesn’t have to be. She telling him personal things and being vulnerable with him. I believe she still has ire reserved for Mimir that she doesn’t for Kratos. She genuinely wants him to fight alongside her against Odin and not just because he’s a great warrior and the god of war, but because she trusts him as well. Then asks him to be the general of the army going into war. After the win, she agrees to rebuild the kingdom(s) with him. I find it hard to believe she hasn’t forgiven him for Baldur when she voluntarily spends most of her time with him and is making massive major plans with him. The fact that Kratos even asked her says a lot and she didn’t hesitate in her answer.
Now, there are those who say it’s too soon for Kratos to get back into a relationship or he wouldn’t, which I disagree with. It’s been 3+ years since Faye passed. Although he’s still grieving her, that doesn’t mean he can’t enter into a new relationship. You don’t stop grieving a loved one or spouse just because you’re dating again. Grief sticks with you and it’s ongoing. After the passing of his first wife, I don’t think he actively dated or sought out women romantically. Keep in mind, Faye flat out said they fought when they first met, I believe. It took them time to get where they were. I don’t think Kratos even entertained dating her until some (significant) time passed, which she may have facilitated him properly asking her out or straight up marriage-whatever it is they did in those days. So the idea that that’s not an option for him and Freya doesn’t pass the sniff test imo. I don’t believe either Freya or Kratos will suddenly develop romantic feelings or even get together right away, but a final, gradual shift in their relationship happens. When they realize this, it’s something they fully embrace, but step carefully into. It would likely be due to familiarity and spending so much time together. Again, they will be rebuilding a kingdom or kingdoms together. He likely will help her around her place and with her different concoctions. She’d likely cook for him even though he can cook for himself and openly admit to enjoy sending time with him. Eventually, they’d be spending most of their time together, which is how they’d prefer it. You know Mimir’s nosey ass would most likely say something to Kratos, but not too much because he wouldn’t want to incur Freya’s wrath. I can see them having though hard conversations about their children and forgiving themselves for their roles in said children’s demise as much as they can. I can see them fully forgiving each other for the transgression committed against one another because…look at all they’ve been through together. Not only did they fight side by side during Ragnarok, he kept his promise to her about never taking her decision away from her again. These are two people who get each other in a way that no one else does. We get the callback after Freya’s no longer bound to Midgard-Kratos doesn’t entertain Freya apologizing about “everything that happened between us” and says, “No need to explain. Not to me. Not for that.” Like, come on! There is this gentleness and vulnerability they express to me another that doesn’t exist with anyone else outside of their kids. As Dana Scully once said, “the best relationships are often rooted in friendships.” Freya was experiencing so many feelings at once and even though it’ll always hurt to lose Baldur, she’ll realize that she’s forgiven Kratos. He was put in an impossible situation and made the best choice born of compassion.
In time Freya would come to see, that not only is Kratos everything Odin wasn’t, he meets her needs in a way that she never realized. That he’s forgiving and kind and supportive and her rock. Could she get that from someone else? Sure. Could she get that from someone who gets her in a way that Kratos gets her, which is what allowed her to be vulnerable around him more than she was around others, most likely no. But also, Freya is Kratos’ type: Fierce, tough, compassionate, bold, independent, nurturing (as in caring for others), etc. She is honest, direct, and says how she feels. He doesn’t need someone who sees him as a clean slate, he needs someone who knows him and embraces that part of him because it’s him. Two people who carried immense pain found one another and, inadvertently, helped each other heal and grow. They have these commonalities in spades.

It is somewhat implies that Kratos will be in Ancient Egypt era, and there he becomes the God of Peace. In Greek, he was the God of War. In Norse, the God of Death. Later, the God of Peace.
To be fair he wasn’t really the God of death that title belongs to Hel, she’s the God of death in Norse mythology, and remember just because we didn’t see her doesn’t mean she’s not there. Edit: Fun fact she’s also one of the children of Loki, explain yourself Atreus

I don’t know if I’d really want the 2 of them to get together. I think it’d be to weird given their histories. 2 main reasons: 1. Most importantly, he KILLED her son. No matter the circumstances, who his father was, or how much of a straight-up bastard he turned out to be, Baldur was her son, and there’s always going to be some part of Freya that will never forgive Kratos for that. She just got to the point where she can stand to be around him without going homicidal after spending literal years trying to kill him. 2. I’m pretty sure that Kratos is still in love with his late wife, Faye, Atreus’ mother. Every time he falls asleep in-game, he dreams about her and the happier times they had together, and it was implied that he’s been doing this for a long time, possibly since right after she died. On top of that, he’s just finally gotten his relationship with Atreus back on track, so I don’t think this more careful and deliberate Kratos is going to try and rush into starting a brand new family. Not saying Atreus would be against it, necessarily, just that Kratos wouldn’t want to rock that emotional boat.
I mean, I do get those points… but I’m not sure they are 100% fact. By the way she acts towards him, it’s implied she truly forgave him, or is in the path of doing so. Odin is the one who sent Baldur after Kratos and Atreus, he is the one who mistreated and raised him to be the sick nas três he turned out to be, and Freya herself had some guilt in it too. Baldur would have comes after Kratos anyways. She blames Odin and herself more than she blames kratos. And yes, I believe in that, but don’t forget they are gods. A few decades could change that considering they live for thousands of years or something like that. Kratos just got over Feye’s death and he doesn’t have to stop loving her. I mean, Did he ever stop loving Lisandra and Calliope after their death? He still thinks about them as the game suggests.

The ending really hit home tbh. Kratos regaining everything he lost, rising from the abyss he fell into. A destroyer turned savior.
To soon being worshipped as the hero he truly deserved to be in this story. Not completely absolved of his past, but willing to learn from his mistakes and move on for the sake of his friends... And his son.

Can't help but remember Odin mocking Kratos not knowing about a mortal worshipper's love and devotion to gods. It true that Kratos doesn't know it in greece, but now he can finally experience it while protecting the 8 realms.

13 year old me back in 2005 playing GOW1 on PS2 never would have imagined that the series would evolve into this almost 2 decades later. Truly remarkable.

The one spike room that required a glitch to get past because Kratos couldn't actually make the jump, the final levels with the spiked wall and the blasted spiked rotating floor things... UGH. It was SOO good until then. About halfway point we had a few hiccups, but the first game ended so painfully.

An interesting fact: In norse Mythology Freya was married to a man called Óðr which character description is similar to Kratos. With this man she had twin daughters called Hnoss and Gersemi. It would be probably easy to replace him with Kratos, because the character of Óðr wasn't really important in the mythology. (and a little additional fact: every time her husband was gone, she missed him so much, that she cried golden tears)

From the perspective if this game, I don't see it. I had a tough time imagining her ever calling the man who killed her son a friend, regardless of the fact that it was the right thing to do. I'm impressed that the story made it make sense on an emotional level. But I still don't see her ever loving him, not like that.

It’s an outward reward for the inner changes he’s gone through. It’s really dope to see him really win and be his own man instead of the monster the Gods tried to make him.

@@garciaalexanderdean8728 yessss. First, I was like "wow. She really believed in kratos, enough to think highly of him that people would/should worship him, love him. But then it hit harder, because regardless of the other people, SHE worshipped kratos, and that's all that mattered to kratos. With this, he gets his peace, and finds a path forward, a path of love and guidance.
For me the cool part of this game too is the fact that in Greek mythology when Cronos killed his father Uranus, Cronos family line was cursed with the cycle of patricide (where the child will always kill the parent) Cronos died by Zeus and in GoW Zeus died by Kratos. So Kratos was destined to die by Atreus. By hiding the truth about his past from Atreus in the last game Kratos was also trying to spare his life too hoping to avoid the "cycle". As Kratos would echoe Zeus' words from the 3rd game "The cycle ends here." When he killed Baldur. And Kratos said earlier in the game "nothing is written that cant be unwritten". And Mimir also said at one point that "the Cycle of Revenge is not so easily broken." But Kratos chose a different path not taken by his previous family line of fathers. A path of leading him to forego his own self interests to a one of love for family and others. Best part for me is that, for Kratos the cycle did end here.

I found it so touching that Freya says "There is comfort in the family I have chosen".
Kratos, Mimir and Atreus are more family than...her own family. Freyr always gave her the stress of leadership, Baldur resented her and tried to kill her, and Odin, well...Odin.
The only bad thing Kratos and Atreus have done is kill her son. And even then, they did so because he was trying to kill her, not to spite or hurt Freya.
They helped her into a path of forgiveness, and helped bring back her old self. By forgiving them, she forgave Freyr and Mimir. In Midgard, when you see Baldur's dead dragon, she asked what happened. After Kratos tells her, she outright takes his side over her own son's, which I'm shocked wasn't put in this video.

What i love about old man Kratos is his restraint. He CAN rip the heads of everyone he meets but by his extreme patience and his willingness to change, he redeemed himself for the better.
In the Thor fight it was evident. Thor ticked him off and instantly cost a tooth.

Yeah like with the fight with Heimdall. He told him he could walk but he didn't give him a choice in the matter. Kratos straight told him stop and you can live and Heimdall chose to keep going. The old Kratos would have sliced his head off and kept going

What I love about these games are the amazingly competent details in speech and body language.
When Kratos looks at the mural he averts his gaze from the image of himself once he realizes what he's seeing.
He gets close and touches it as if he needs to know it's actually there, or perhaps he's afraid it will somehow slip away and disappear.
Kratos, who always stands tall and straight in his posture to the point of almost looking strained at times, who always straight at whoever he's talking to,
shrinks down before the representation of himself as a benevolent deity.
Rather than confidently raising his head, as he always has - be it titans, forces of nature or gods themselves,
he can only manage a short glance before he again averts his eyes.
It also ties in to show what a master Odin was at getting in peoples head and manipulating them,
striking hard at their deepest doubts and desires:

In your lifetimes, has anyone ever worshiped you? Ever prayed to you?
Can you even imagine that kind of love?

However, I think it's a matter of perspective.
The Spartans loved Kratos the same way a warrior might love their sword. They love if for what they can do when they wield it - for the enemies they can kill with it and the riches they can obtain. They don't love the sword itself, any sword will do as long as it's sharp and kills. The Spartans would have "loved" any God that gave them power.
The Spartans never actually loved and prayed to Kratos - they loved and prayed to the God of War, whom happened to be Kratos.
They simply could never have actually loved him, because he never stood for anything other than a hate, anger and destruction.
What Kratos wants is for people to love Kratos because he is Kratos - Because that would mean he could change, that there was more to him than bloodshed, that he could be more than a sword - That he could be better.
Odin definitely didn't get into Kratos's head. Not like that anyway.
Kratos is probably the only one not manipulated by Odin at all throughout Ragnarok.

The funny thing about what Freya said, she may have well in actuality beaten him. And not because of Kratos having gone soft and is completely infatuated with her, but for the sole fact that Kratos is no longer in his prime and has all of the olympian powers he acquired after greece fell. The way Kratos holds his axe, moving it in his hand as he says “Have you decided?” He is praying they don’t fight because he knows he’ll end up killing her, and he will never forgive himself for it, but is still ready to do so, so he would live for his son. I love the small details like this that help match the way the scene goes.
Growing up with Kratos and seeing what has become of him now warms my heart. I cannot wait to play this Game

I just wanna make this clear for those that don't understand.. the reason why that moment where Kratos lays eyes on "a path he could have never imagined." Is so iconic and touching, is because this is a man that was tormented his entire life and all he has ever seen and experienced for a long time was bloodshed and though he felt accomplished in his goals he has achieved, he has always been tormented by the thought and experience of him killing his daughter and wife and will always be haunted by this due to the Ashy grey skin. (Literal ashes of his family) the moment he lays eyes on that "forward path" he has finally felt peace within himself to know. He has done better for his son, Atreus. Though the thought of his previous life in sparta will never leave him, it will always be an experience that will keep him human as he lives as the new god of peace and tranquility.
Anyway, sorry for that, just love deep moments like that.

I know Kratos still loves Faye and it will take long for them to move on from their pasts but I do believe with time they could grow to be a very strong couple and make each other happy for a long time. They can improve each other, Freya teaching Kratos how to go about his new role as the god of peace and Kratos teaching Freya not to be so attached to the things she loves in fear of losing them. I don’t know what we’ll see in the next god of war game but it would be lovely to see.

The Across the Reams Favour really parallels Kratos and Freya journeying together. It could possibly hint at something more than friendship in the future.

Like just once could he have told anyone, especially her how he's cursed to carry the ashes of the wife and daughter he killed? Plus went to be with his daughter only to leave her forever to save her and all creation. No wonder Atreus is so safe
In Valhalla, "Helios" says he can faintly see "some" of the ashes. I take it to mean the actual ashes aren't there anymore, but his skin just looks like that now.

Whether or not it actually becomes canon, I can see Freya and Kratos ending up together.
Although I’m agreement with the noromos who believe that men and women can be friends, I do believe romance is a plausible path for Kratos and Freya despite him killing her son, their own traumas, and grief.
One of Kratos’ most defining character traits is that he doesn’t trust gods. Even in GoW (2018), he stresses to Atreus not to trust gods, which later included Freya. He’s angry because she omitted her true identity, which circumvented him avoiding her altogether thus establishing the beginning of a friendship and trust of sorts with her. And this is important on many levels:
1. Freya was at an advantage and Kratos was at massive disadvantage.
2. He got to know her to an extent without any presumption on her character and intent.
3. She got to know him to an extent without his guard up.
4. His instincts (and Atreus) opened himself up to trusting her.
We see that Kratos typically has a good read on situations and people, esp gods. So when Freya omitted the truth, he was put in the situation to trust a god again, which angered him. It wasn’t a true deception, but the principle of the matter. This key moment in the relationship actually sets up so much between them because, despite Freya not being forthcoming about her identity, she did nothing wrong and Kratos was the one in wrong. This later prompts Kratos to reflect on his behavior when Freya helps saves Atreus’ life even though she didn’t have to. When he apologizes, she says this,
“No. You were right to distrust the word of a god. No need to explain. Not to me. Not for that.”
At this point in time, Kratos knew that she spoke from experience. She wasn’t blowing smoke up his ass or trying to make him feel better. She got his distrust on a visceral level because she went through SEVERAL betrayals of her own at the hands of a god who was her husband at that!
Even though he’s heard stories about Freya’s marriage to Odin and the events leading up to it, why she agreed to it, and why she stayed, hearing her wave off his apology and understanding the context made him see her in a new light. She wasn’t making him apologize for something that evolved into a survival technique because she learned all too well herself. He hears the sadness and melancholy in her voice-the pain that sticks with her.
Throughout the story, Freya helped him without asking anything in return. Her assistance and friendship was genuine. But the one thing she did ask, Kratos didn’t honor.
This is all important because moments prior to Baldur and Freya’s reunion, he and Atreus weren’t even sure they could trust her. Then, when Kratos saw their interaction: Baldur’s eagerness to harm Freya and her willingness to accept said harm even if it meant death. He kept trying to mind his business, but ultimately deduced that Freya didn’t deserve that fate.
In a sense, he’d been in her position before. He understood what it was like to make decisions you can’t undo. To hate and punish yourself. To want to protect your child at all cost, but at what cost? Hasn’t she suffered enough? Why did this have to end in her death, esp when Odin was responsible for most of her suffering. Baldur was the only bright spot for her in a toxic and abusive marriage-her judgment was clouded due to all her pain, suffering, and losses.
Because Odin stripped her of almost everything minus life…piece by piece. She can’t leave home-bound to Midgard. She literally can’t defend herself, despite being a skilled warrior, which she prided herself on. Despite her circumstance, then and now, according to Mimir’s stories-some of which he experienced himself-she was a largely good and kind person and god. Unlike, the gods in Greece and even her former husband. Only to be robbed of her agency and safety.
Even though in the beginning of the friendship, Freya is the one with the upper hand, by the end of it, Kratos is the one with the upper hand. Freya knew he was a god, but she didn’t know his backstory. Kratos knew all about her in a sense, which is why he’s able to be compassionate and understand that she’s punishing herself for more than Baldur’s fate.
Despite only knowing her for a short time, from the moment he decides she doesn’t deserve to die and was dealt a shit hand during her marriage and made a tragic decision that led to “losing” her son, he basically vows to never allow harm to come to her. He considers her his friend even though she hates him after he killed her child. Even though she has vowed and tried on many occasions to murder him, he refuses to see her anything but as a friend who is experiencing extreme guilt and grief.
Interestingly enough, we see Freya’s perspective shift even before she finds out about Calliope. Kratos saves her life from Atreus and says, “she was our friend.” Freya was determined to see Kratos as this evil, selfish guy and, even in that moment, she sees the gentler, compassionate side of him. It frustrates and upsets her, but she changes course because it’s all too much for her at that moment. She also knows that while her present misery is due to Kratos’ actions, he’s not the true reason behind her misery and unhappiness.
In addition to finding out about Calliope and the circumstances leading up to her (and her mother’s) death’s, she’s also being worn down by Kratos and his reason. This is a man who’s traveled down the road she is on. He’s been there. And the thing that she’s promising herself will bring her peace so to speak, she know isn’t true. The more Kratos refuses to let it go, the angrier she gets. She’s largely had no control over her life for just about a century and the one thing she does have control over (thinking she could kill kratos) is something she deep down knows won’t settle her spirit. Once she actually gets her freedom with the assistance of Kratos, it’s then she admits to herself that she can’t kill him, despite her urge to. And she can’t forgive him because he took away her child-he took away her choice: her life so that Baldur could live.
In the journey, something else is established OR, to be exact, it’s re-established: their trust in one another.
Not only has Freya notice Kratos’ consistency in being honest with her and respecting her decisions, he’s a man of his word. He also allows himself to be vulnerable with and around her. That’s not the same Kratos she met years prior or the one who was angry after he found out that she omitted her godhood to him. Despite the things she’s said and what she’s tried to do on many occasions, he’s always respected her and never treated her with anything less than that. He is not Odin. The things her ex husband punished her for and exploited are things Kratos’ values about her and still sees her as even when she was on her worst behavior.
Admittedly, people can still be friends with someone (again) who wronged them. However, I find it difficult to believe that Freya can be friends with Kratos again even though he caused her immense grief if she hasn’t fully forgiven him. Grief that led her to trying to murder him on many occasions and directly put his child in danger who she very well knows Kratos doesn’t fuck around about.
If Kratos can not only forgive her for that, but not hold it against her, why can’t she eventually forgive him for killing Baldur esp when it was to save her life?
I’d argue we see that after Freya is no longer bound to Midgard. Throughout their journey, we see that she is largely by his side even when she doesn’t have to be. She telling him personal things and being vulnerable with him. I believe she still has ire reserved for Mimir that she doesn’t for Kratos. She genuinely wants him to fight alongside her against Odin and not just because he’s a great warrior and the god of war, but because she trusts him as well. Then asks him to be the general of the army going into war. After the win, she agrees to rebuild the kingdom(s) with him. I find it hard to believe she hasn’t forgiven him for Baldur when she voluntarily spends most of her time with him and is making massive major plans with him. The fact that Kratos even asked her says a lot and she didn’t hesitate in her answer.
Now, there are those who say it’s too soon for Kratos to get back into a relationship or he wouldn’t, which I disagree with. It’s been 3+ years since Faye passed. Although he’s still grieving her, that doesn’t mean he can’t enter into a new relationship. You don’t stop grieving a loved one or spouse just because you’re dating again. Grief sticks with you and it’s ongoing. After the passing of his first wife, I don’t think he actively dated or sought out women romantically. Keep in mind, Faye flat out said they fought when they first met, I believe. It took them time to get where they were. I don’t think Kratos even entertained dating her until some (significant) time passed, which she may have facilitated him properly asking her out or straight up marriage-whatever it is they did in those days. So the idea that that’s not an option for him and Freya doesn’t pass the sniff test imo.
I don’t believe either Freya or Kratos will suddenly develop romantic feelings or even get together right away, but a final, gradual shift in their relationship happens. When they realize this, it’s something they fully embrace, but step carefully into.
It would likely be due to familiarity and spending so much time together. Again, they will be rebuilding a kingdom or kingdoms together. He likely will help her around her place and with her different concoctions. She’d likely cook for him even though he can cook for himself and openly admit to enjoy sending time with him. Eventually, they’d be spending most of their time together, which is how they’d prefer it. You know Mimir’s nosey ass would most likely say something to Kratos, but not too much because he wouldn’t want to incur Freya’s wrath.
I can see them having though hard conversations about their children and forgiving themselves for their roles in said children’s demise as much as they can. I can see them fully forgiving each other for the transgression committed against one another because…look at all they’ve been through together. Not only did they fight side by side during Ragnarok, he kept his promise to her about never taking her decision away from her again.
These are two people who get each other in a way that no one else does.
We get the callback after Freya’s no longer bound to Midgard-Kratos doesn’t entertain Freya apologizing about “everything that happened between us” and says, “No need to explain. Not to me. Not for that.”

There is this gentleness and vulnerability they express to me another that doesn’t exist with anyone else outside of their kids.
As Dana Scully once said, “the best relationships are often rooted in friendships.”
Freya was experiencing so many feelings at once and even though it’ll always hurt to lose Baldur, she’ll realize that she’s forgiven Kratos. He was put in an impossible situation and made the best choice born of compassion.
In time Freya would come to see, that not only is Kratos everything Odin wasn’t, he meets her needs in a way that she never realized. That he’s forgiving and kind and supportive and her rock. Could she get that from someone else? Sure. Could she get that from someone who gets her in a way that Kratos gets her, which is what allowed her to be vulnerable around him more than she was around others, most likely no.
But also, Freya is Kratos’ type: Fierce, tough, compassionate, bold, independent, nurturing (as in caring for others), etc. She is honest, direct, and says how she feels. He doesn’t need someone who sees him as a clean slate, he needs someone who knows him and embraces that part of him because it’s him. Two people who carried immense pain found one another and, inadvertently, helped each other heal and grow.
They have these commonalities in spades.

I don’t know if I’d really want the 2 of them to get together. I think it’d be to weird given their histories. 2 main reasons:
1. Most importantly, he KILLED her son. No matter the circumstances, who his father was, or how much of a straight-up bastard he turned out to be, Baldur was her son, and there’s always going to be some part of Freya that will never forgive Kratos for that. She just got to the point where she can stand to be around him without going homicidal after spending literal years trying to kill him.
2. I’m pretty sure that Kratos is still in love with his late wife, Faye, Atreus’ mother. Every time he falls asleep in-game, he dreams about her and the happier times they had together, and it was implied that he’s been doing this for a long time, possibly since right after she died. On top of that, he’s just finally gotten his relationship with Atreus back on track, so I don’t think this more careful and deliberate Kratos is going to try and rush into starting a brand new family. Not saying Atreus would be against it, necessarily, just that Kratos wouldn’t want to rock that emotional boat.
I mean, I do get those points… but I’m not sure they are 100% fact.
By the way she acts towards him, it’s implied she truly forgave him, or is in the path of doing so. Odin is the one who sent Baldur after Kratos and Atreus, he is the one who mistreated and raised him to be the sick nas três he turned out to be, and Freya herself had some guilt in it too. Baldur would have comes after Kratos anyways. She blames Odin and herself more than she blames kratos. And yes, I believe in that, but don’t forget they are gods. A few decades could change that considering they live for thousands of years or something like that. Kratos just got over Feye’s death and he doesn’t have to stop loving her. I mean, Did he ever stop loving Lisandra and Calliope after their death? He still thinks about them as the game suggests.

Yeah but you can’t expect Kratos of war to just beat off in his cabin in the woods forever. Freya happens to be the most convenient option
I think there only really needs to be an emotional relationship. It doesn't have to physical to matter.
