I only recently started getting into luxury but my first piece (and one of my dream pieces) was the petite malle. Seeing the largest trunk in eclipse with the beautiful hardware.... my god it's gorgeous.

I’m amazed at how many similarities there are between your new LV Trunk and my, new-to-me, 1880’s Louis Vuitton, Stripped “Rayee” Canvas Steamer Trunk! Like holy moley! Mine however is needing some serious TLC... it was an accidental purchase. Not even going to tell you what I paid for it in case you have a heart condition. Neither myself or the seller at the time of the sale knew it was a LV. Your black version is also unique and proabably relatively rare too. It certainly looks awesome. Very striking. I’m seriously falling in love with this very old one. Tongue in cheek, I think mine has more character (And odour too at this point because I’ve been too scared to clean it. Ha!) and I’m looking forward to uncovering more of it’s story. I’ve only had it a couple days and tonight had a fun call with a LV customer service guy. I wish I had a recording of the call when he asked “I’m sorry, ma’am, did you just say you have a Louis Vuitton Trunk from 1880?!). Funny thing is, I’ve been unemployed since the march COVID shutdown and thought I was buying a cheap trunk to disassemble, repair, restore, reassemble with perhaps a pretty Liberty fabric interior because I have some in my basement, and gift it to my daughter for Christmas (We agreed only handmade or second hand gifts this year because we’re both unemployed and she’s got a baby. I think our gift might be the fun story that’s unfolding. It has already topped all previous Christmas related stories. :O) Thanks for sharing your world with us.

wow what a trunk- even though I am more of a fan of the regular canvas- there is no denying how majestic these trunks are. This one does give it a modern edge

Wow...yeah, hard-sided goods seem to increase in price the fastest; the price increase prior to this was I think 20 - 30% as well, but it was a few years

Phil ... I enjoyed watching this video... I think the LV canvas is perfect for the trunks and I really like this color rather than the traditional brown. I am glad you could get a fun colour that you like for the inside... I would be a bit more conservative, perhaps, but you paid for what you wanted and so happy for you! I don't care for the LV canvas on other items, I think it was first used for the trunks and it is perfect for that, but, in my opinion canvas is not beautiful on bags and other items. I have heard that LV makes about 3000 % profit on many items... not surprising at all....

A work of art! I am so glad you did go ahead and get it. Magnificent! I would definitely say go ahead and get a stack of hard suitcases, which are equally artistic! Personally, even with the glass on top, I would baulk at anyone using this as a coffee table. If someone spills coffee, it could easily splash onto it, or wine, or cake or beetroot if the guests are eating sandwiches! Thank you for this amazing video and have a fabulous day!

That is what some people use it as with a glass or acrylic top.
The bright side is they come with the glass top now for free.
Oh really? I suppose that's the least they can do with the huge price increases for the hard-sided goods.
@@SartorialPhil haha yeah it’s like 10k more now than when you got one. But I was speaking to my sa recently about one and the glass top being complimentary was something she mentioned.

It's a custom order from Louis Vuitton, which is the only way to get a (new) one. Any store should be able to assist you in customizing one.
