    Some say her words triggered him as though his reaction was normal.
    He's violent.

      She didn't even say anything terrible. Some judges have really laid into defendants at sentence and they just sit there and take it. He lost it at taste of his own medicine or something different I don't remember exactly what she said, which he quite obviously does. No impulse control at all and that's not going to going to be good for him in jail unless he becomes like a celebrity in there for actual hitting the judge

    I have to say I have never seen a judge more objective and compose determined to be unbiased and follow the law. I am impressed. She puts some current Federal judges to shame.

      @@samanthalake5011 Judges don’t create charges. She only can judge for the initial case. Increasing for that could easily call for retaliation and mistrial to charges that aren’t for the current charges.
      New charges will be introduced, and legally she cannot be his judge for those charges due to the conflict of interest. He will be facing another judge with new charges.

      Thats supposed to be the purpose of bailiffs in the courtroom... bc they know that, but clearly the bailiffs werent doing their job that day. They should be more aware of their surroundings and be prepared, and they werent. I hope they were reprimanded.

      That's complacency and/or they're pulling double duty and being required to do more than monitor the court room. The video showed the bailiff working on a computer or something. The defendant watched the whole room before jumping, had he not seen an "in," I don't think he would've tried it.

    Not only did she not allow him to shake her from still giving the sentencing, she also was able to do so without excessive reference to the circumstances and keep her own emotions out of the situation. This is an example of professionalism at its finest

    I'm so tired of mental illness being used to invalidate his crimes. His mental illness does not invalidate what he did and it doesn't mean he should get a lesser sentencing.
    Mental health may not be your fault but it is your responsibility to seek help from community services or even the courts if thats the situation you're in.

    The young clerk's instinctive heroism is phenomenal! so glad he was quick off the mark in his reaction to what must have been a scary situation but he didn't hesitate. He threw himself to ward off the attack with no thought for his own safety but to protect the judge. Waytgo!! give the clerk a raise and promotion to head of security!!

      I struggle with mental illness. Bipolar 1 with mixed features and psychotic episodes. I have never been violent. There are very few exceptions when it comes to violent crimes being directly caused by mental illness. Most of the time, it is just people trying to get off the hook because they have a mental illness. And it' not because the criminal had an incapacitated ability to reason.

He was p^^^^d off that she said he had had been excused enough for his behaviour and it was time for real consequences.       If they stack it, as in have him serve consecutively instead of concurrent, which they can because you are talking about multiple victim, as in he didn't wail on the same person 7 times, instead he started 7 different fight with 4 different person, so they can at least stack it up into 4. If they give him the max (which with 4 felony and 9 misdemeanor, more than qualified as a repeated offender). He is looking for at least 40 years with what he did on Jan 3......
      So it's really stupid for him to do that, piss at a 19 months sentence, get at least 40.

    Every time I see the video of the judge being attacked, I am overwhelmed by the immediate action of the judges Law Clerk. He is an absolutely amazing young man, literally leaping himself to try to save his judge. I say his judge because he clearly is dedicated in every way in terms of his job, as well as loyal and courageous! The judge herself being back on the bench the day after the attack is beyond honorable, certainly impressive. I wouldn’t have been able to do that!

    She's absolutely great! A heroic gem. She has complete compassion. We need not just more judges like her, but people. The defendants action warranted a far more harsher sentence. I don't know that in same situation I would have had the same reaction as she. Live long and prosper my dear! You have my complete and utter respect and love for you! Period.
