Excellent analysis Shekhar ji, I as a Punjabi and Sikh but one not born and bought up in Punjab but educated and working in different parts of our country can see this clearly as an insider in the punjabi community yet as an outsider to Punjab as a state. This Canada, dollar, rifle, Gaddi and daru crap ,fancy cars and showoff life is both the cause and effect of the psuedo machismo that punjabi youth identifies with, this has been the downfall of Punjab. The youth need to re-connect with the history in the right way and learn from it and not use it as a ego boosting dose. Punjabi youth need to really embody the Sikh saying of "Man neeva mat unchi", for the state and the punjabi community to come out of the rut they are going into.

If you look from global standards, Richest state Goa has GDP per capita 3600 USD and poorest state Bihar 975 USD only 2625 USD gap while China is as freaking *15000* USD. Our focus must be China instead of bragging about this state is far ahead of that state. From global perspective differences are tiny and whole of India is poor asf.

China and India is too different but Indian states do have the same conditions for growth.

I am from Kerala and the propaganda machine is so strong in my state that people are forced to believe that we are No1 in everything, it's comparable to North Korea. But the real fact is there are no good educational institutes and no employment. Every educated/non educated individual has to leave the state once they reach adulthood to make a living. Lot of people waste their whole lives in middle east living in labor camps so that they can have a decent house and their kids can get education, and their kids go through the same circle. Punjab may be slightly better, those guys go to Canada or Europe where they can get at least permanent residency/Citizenship unlike middle east where you will be kicked out once you are unfit for labour. Both states have refused to accept changes and getting screwed up for the same reason.

As someone coming from the state of Kerala, the situation in Punjab can be corelated. Kerala might score high on HDI, but the environment here for businesses is not at all favourable. Keralites immigrate to Middle East mostly, where it is easier to get visa for blue collar jobs. This ensured our per capita income was higher than the educated Indians in other states who worked in India. But this situation is changing rapidly and there are better opportunities in the more industrialised states of India (for instance Bangalore is the de-facto location for Malayali IT engineers and small businesses). If you live here, it would become so obvious why you don't see any industrialist or tech unicorns from Kerala (at least no successful companies from Kerala, even Byju's have their headquarters in Bangalore). As India might see tremendous growth in the next few decades, it would be easy to see the winners and the losers among the states along the way (creating perception and ground reality are 2 different things). After seeing this hard reality check on Punjab, my 2 cents is that Punjabi's only has to fix things on an individual level, they don't have the curse which is holding back Kerala - a strong communist establishment inside the state.

The most important thing that Punjab needs is Industrialization.
Punjabis on per capita basis are among the most indebted people among all Indians. And it's due to countless of freebies and subsidies which is draining annual budget.
80% of annual budget goes into subsidies, and salaries. How will you invest in infrastructure for industries?
Punjab doesn't even have a strong industrial base like Haryana (Gurgaon) nor an IT industry.
But if somebody tries to do some reforms, Punjabis mobilize themselves as if they are going to war. I believe that Central Government is now too scared to do any kind of experiment in Punjab due to fear of violent backlash. It would rather see a poor Punjab instead of a unstable Punjab. And here Punjabis and their arrogant nature is at fault which resists changes and when somebody tries to explain the reality, they start quoting "INQALAB JINDABAD".

Also, it's not like there is no rush to go abroad in other states. In the Telugu states, there is a rush to go to US but it's mostly to do IT jobs after getting decent education. In Kerala, people want to go to gulf through family references or nurses want to go to Europe after learning nursing and German language. But it looks like in Punjab, they want to go to Canada without much education irrespective of the hardships that awaits them there.

Same is the case with Indian sun the Middle East, even in blue collared jobs discrimination is so obvious yet it’s considered better than the opportunities they see in India. Not that am glorifying driving trucks and working at petrol pump but the grass is not always greener on the other side. The reality remains that we don’t have enough job opportunities for our youth in small villages and towns of India and some of the cultures and found a way to survive in their own way.

Not exactly, for example there are major IT parks in places like Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram. The problem in Kerala is that the percentage of people who go for UG/PG education is way higher than what the job market requires. As you imagine, any society would always require more people doing menial work than one that requires extensive education. For example, to build a house you just need one or two architect but tens of daily labourers.
As far as immigration is considered, people from South India (and not just Kerala) immigrate legally, either using employment visa or student visa. So they are not in a situation where they would get exploited.

Punjab seems to be India's most troubled state -because of the accumulation of farmer debts, and the poor financial condition of the state because of it's dependence on traditional industries for revenues. Mohali could've been a huge IT, Biotech and resesarch hub, but successive governments, especially the congress, haven't been proactive enough. As a result, most educated punjabis want to flee - either to other states, or to Canada or Australia.

If on checking you find that, you are, perhaps the other person, just doesn’t want to understand you. Don’t waste time, move on. Equally, if something goes wrong, introspect to check if you have done something wrong prior to blaming someone else or come up with an excuse.
