Punjab has been handled, or more like mishandled by many governments until today.
Once India's second-richest state during the Green Revolution, today Punjab has become a current debt-ridden one. But how did it get here?
In this video we unfold the intricate details of Punjab's financial woes, its overdependence on subsidies, and how political decisions have contributed to the state's fiscal challenges. With insights into the recent actions taken by the AAP government, you'll gain a comprehensive understanding of the state's economic situation and its uncertain future. But the question is, will Punjab be able to ever reclaim its former glory?

That and rice is not a crop for Punjab, (it needs power to keep rice in 4inch water, depleting groundwater) it grows in the south or southeast Asia because of rain. Punjabi's are lazy, don't want to work hard on the fields. Punjab lacks industry, but sells a lot of alcohol. Plus the debt from 80's and 90's.

Excellent report! I was born in a Punjab village, lived and studied there till high school in 60's. Village school was pretty bad, lacking teachers, and those teachers were there not to teach but to collect the salary. After high school, my parents took me to Chennai and only then I realized how much harm the Government schools in the rural villages were doing to the students. I spent a year going to tutoring institutes to catch up. Luckily, I was was able to get into government engineering college in Chennai and that changed my life and even migrated to US 40 years ago. During my last visit to my village school in 2017, I was shocked to find my high school had only one functioning classroom, one small office room, two teachers, and no lab. All other classrooms were decrypt, leaking, and non-functional. Even these 2 rooms were functional with the financial help by a native son who now lives in Canada. If my school is a sad model of how the state governments have degraded education all across the rural villages, it is complete destruction of future for the rural youth. It is not just a loss for the community, or the Punjab state, it is loss for the nation! Imagine for a moment if the government had educated their rural youth, how much wealth these educated would have created that would have raised the state revenue.

As a northeastern myself, I feel that this problem needs to be addressed more and talked about. I love your videos, Mohak Sir. Kindly consider this as a topic for future videos. Would really appreciate if people pay more attention to how NorthEast is simply seen like a "haven for refuge" by the Bangladeshi and Burmese and how the locals are getting affected.

The government should really really become strict and stop giving freebies at once, be it is provided to the people living in the state or the other states. It should stop and they should work to get out of this debt hole.

I think if a state has a rich history why not promoting it's tourism sector and make Rajasthan a national epitome for tourism for all the world and especially for west. And For manufacturing sector it's not a one day show to begin it requires decades of planning both state and central coordination.

Once an IT city is generated the state government also gets a lots of tax too when the IT people spend money. Then other developments happens or follows.

Second influence of unions and socialist in punjab politics who resists industries in punjab. Second point is very underrated topic not many know like kerala and west bengal! punjab has strong socialist influence which leads to punjab not being buisness friendly. Could you please create a video about Delhi? It's disheartening that despite the significant direct and indirect taxes residents pay, the city struggles with a fundamental issue: poor road infrastructure. While central Delhi and affluent neighborhoods may seem to have improved, the majority of Delhi's population lives in areas with subpar roads.
I reside in Sector 22, Rohini, and the journey to the nearest mall takes me through Begumpur, Sector 23, 24, 25, and Rithala. Unfortunately, you can hardly find a 1km stretch on this route without encountering potholes.
North West Delhi is in pathetic conditions and the govt is completely ignorant about it. I have written to the departments and the email is forwarded to some IAS but after that no action is not taken.

I've lived in Kota, Rajasthan; Purnea, Bihar; Shirdi, Maharashtra and some of the remote villages of India but the power outage issue is surprisingly more than these places.. even in October November we sometimes don't get water on Sunday and on some weekdays also.. In my opinion subsidies should only be given to the needy not to all. Most of the people in Punjab are rich enough to afford these basic amenities. Govt can utilise these money on making govt hospitals and schools better. Govt hospitals are very crowded often.

Hey Mohak. I have been a long time fan of yours(about the last 2 to 2.5 years) and i really wanted you to look into the issues of how the auto rickshaws in mumbai tend to run fairly on price in comparison to every single other auto rickshaw driver in our country. It might seem mundane and very less could be explored but atleast it would truly open to how most cities are discouraging the idea of public transports(except metros)!Or you could look into Mumbai’s land crisis and how at average Mumbai’s land is more expensive than a land in Los Angeles or in new york(kinda)

Great video✨, but a Small correction,
The compensation cess which was provided by the CG to states have already been ended after the completion of 5 years since implementation of GST (i.e. on 30th June 2022), now it is used by CG itself to payoff its own debt which it incurred because of such compensation it provided to states in the initial 5 years, so Punjab is not receiving any compensation for not collecting enough GST,
sorry for going this deep, ,
I am no expert just a tax student,

Hard working people of Punjab have been betrayed by corruption and lack of vision from the leaders. It failed to capture the IT revolution due rampant corruption so that all that business went elsewhere. Unfortunately the only business which sky rocketed in past 20 years was of Narcotics. We need someone with Vision & to clear corruption and Punjab will bounce back with in 5 years.

Why you are so concerned about recidivism. Any individual's concern would be about, how we can produce things in lesser cost and export, how the people's living conditions could be improved, how to decrease the poverty. How everyone can get equal opportunity to excel based on their talent, irrespective of cast and creed. But why you are concerned about recidivism.

Furthermore, would really want you to make an in-depth case study of the lacklustre and complacent attitude of Himachal Pradesh and it’s locals. How only focusing on tourism or moving to places like Chandigarh or Delhi is the only scope of growth for literate career oriented people. Awaiting your reply.
