    Freeze buttermilk in ice cube trays. Then you don't have to defrost as much for a small amount. It defrost faster that way too!

    I don't use much milk and I would always end up throwing milk away even if I bought just a half gallon at a time. My older sister told me that milk could be frozen and until then I had never considered freezing it. Now I buy a gallon at a time because it is cheaper that way. I went to The Dollar Tree and bought some plastic one-pint containers that come with lids with pour spouts. I freeze the milk in these pint containers and put one container at a time in my refrigerator and let it thaw over night or for 24 hours. When I am near the bottom of that container I take another frozen one out and put it in the fridge. Since I have started doing that I have not throw away a single drop of milk.

    I really enjoyed this video, when you grate the parm, don't toss the rind. When you make a sauce, soup or beans, toss it in the pot. It will give the dish wonderful flavor and richness.

    I squeeze lemon juice into a plastic container and freeze it. Used to throw so many half lemons out that were left to rot in my crisper.

    When freezing sandwiches, just put the mayo on the inside with the deli meat or cheese touching the bread. so basically reverse/invert it.

    Just a quick tip on freezing the milk: If you do remove milk from the container (The formula for that is roughly 10% of initial volume), squeeze the jug just a little before replacing the cap. This will allow the milk to expand without damaging the jug or plowing the cap off.

    Thank you. I just purcased Parmigano Regiono (sp???) and had it in the fridge. I noticed on the one I had open a tiny green spot. That scared me because I just bought it not too long ago and that stuff is not cheap. I threw the unopened one in the freezer (not knowing your info, just took a chance) and now the already opened one im going to shred like you suggested and throw it in the freezer. Thank you!!!!

    Hi Jill, can we freez whipping cream either whipped or liquid, then like milk, then whipp it or rewhipp it? I will appreciate if you could answer my question please.

    • @gabik5521

      My nana would freeze whip cream all the time when I was growing up. And just take it out 30 minutes to an hour before you need it. Not the canned versions though just the stuff that comes in the tubs.

    Hi Jillee,
    was wondering if you can freeze mashed potato? Was thinking of making potato patties for later, but I'm not sure if they are freezable and should they be frozen before or after frying.
    Freezer using newb

    • @anotherasian3514
      @anotherasian3514 7 лет назад

      Hudolinski no because when you freeze a potato or mashed potato when you defrost it it is like drinking water and it tastes terrible

    • @meheretoday6968
      @meheretoday6968 5 лет назад +2

      yep Hudolinski you sure can...I often make shepherds pie with left overs and freeze them for another day...never had an issue with them... ignore the 'no you cant' advice

    The thing is, do farms just think that people KNOW what that indentation the side of the plastic gallon container is and is there enough space left in quart and half gallon cartons to just stick them in the freezer?

    I cook for just my husband and myself (our 5 children are grown and out). Sometimes I only need a half can of an ingredient (canned pumpkin, cream of soups, etc.). I don't want to waste what's left in the can, but sometimes I feel I can't use the leftover right away. Can I freeze what's left? Have you done this before, and how did you do it? Would love your input. Thank you.

      Constance you need to go back to school sweetie because freezing milk and cheese is perfectly 'legit' and you just showed why I do not eat out at restaurants where chefs have no idea how to care for food...

      I freeze cheese all the time , no problem ....

    • @rbheiss
      @rbheiss 3 года назад

      @@grannyj1856 When I buy cheese at the store it always goes right into the freezer. It would seem foreign to me to place it in the fridge! I always buy the large bags of grated cheese and sometimes when I need it I have to pound the bags a bit to loosen the clumps up but that's not a problem. I'm not sure where Constance is coming from. So keep freezing the cheese Granny!
      Take care,
