Who throws out half a bag of chips? Am I the only one who eats the whole thing in one sitting? 😅 never heard of left over chips 😂
same here
Lemons and limes can also be frozen whole! The rind gets soft when they thaw but the amount of juice it yields is 👍. Don’t let them shrivel up in your produce drawer and then go in the garbage.
I do the same, it goes great in a green smoothie rind and all
I always finish my big bag of chips, nothing to freeze :D
I smash leftover chips or crackers. Instant croutons for my green salad. Delicious.
😂me too!
Same here.. hehe
🤣
I was just about to say...lol
Hummus freezes, then thaws, beautifully! I found this out by accident one day. When it’s on sale, stock up and throw all but one container in the freezer.
My 86 year old dad gets meals on wheels so I am now recycling the plastic trays making my version meals, meal prepping for him now. Love that I can do big batches of mash potatoes, veggies and more. Love the ice cream scoop 💡 idea, and muffin tin. Thank you
Freezing is a great way to avoid food spoilage when you are the only human in the house or just the only one who eats certain things. Lets you have plenty of variety. Can make up a batch of something and just freeze portions in bags or Pyrex bowls with tight lids. The 1-cup and 2-cup sizes are handy for freezing single portions and you can add more veg to it when reheating in a microwave. Casseroles, rice, millet, anything you have to cook. Slider bags of various sizes can be handy to keep portion bags together.
Soup freezes fine, so I do that for the other half of the can. A friend used to make her own soup and boil it down to half volume, then pack it up in individual containers for freezing. She would take them to work and just add hot water at lunch time.
I just sectioned four oranges and am freezing the segments flat in zip bags. Can eat them straight from the freezer or toss into blended concoctions. Do the same with melons, kiwi fruit, any citrus, sliced strawberries, anything that would fuse together if just tossed into a bag. Blueberries and grapes and cherries can just be frozen in bags. (If you don’t remove pits from the cherries, just be careful eating them and remember they have pits if you get the urge to use in a blended drink... ) Pineapple rings or chunks, even from a can, are great frozen. I’ll drink the pineapple juice myself (somebody has to make the sacrifice) and then pack them up in small containers like half-cup Rubbermaid ones with tight lids. They thaw quickly enough to eat like sherbet. I also will do this with nondairy ice cream (allergic to dairy) so I can’t tell myself I have to eat it all up before it “spoils”.
Whole small baked potatoes freeze fine, bigger ones just get cut up into 3 or 4 pieces after baking. Likewise for sweet potatoes. I’ll buy extra bell peppers and freeze small strips in individual portion bags for cooked meals. Zucchini and summer squash etc. can be sliced or cut up into smaller pieces first. Even celery can be diced and frozen if you want to cook with it. I often use folded top or zip sandwich or snack bags to portion out commercial frozen veg or fruit before they fuse together and need an ice pick.... Then I can just grab one or two for my own meal.
I’ve also frozen canned mixtures and beans and baked beans and chili. Snack zip bags are handy for dealing with these, just open the can and spoon it into bags in the amounts you for individual portions.
Avocados can be frozen! You can freeze halves tightly wrapped but also can just mash with lemon juice and freeze in plastic bags which you can thaw as needed in the fridge. As the only eater, I like to freeze the mash flat in zip bags for easy storage and very quick thawing, no need to do it in the fridge. About half a Haas avocado fits nicely into a zip sandwich or snack bag. I’ve also bought frozen diced avocado in small cubes, which are nice because no surprises when you open an avocado. But before they fuse together, I bag portions of about 2 oz each and then can grab those and eat any time. They quickly thaw at room temperature if I want to spread them on anything.
Even cream cheese or dips or spreads can be frozen in appropriate portions. If it is something like a sauce that doesn’t seem to actually freeze but stays liquidy, just use small freezer containers sold for homemade baby food.
Cheese can also be frozen in 1oz cubes. This works for both dairy and nondairy. Shredded cheese can be portioned out first before freezing if you don’t use much at once. I’ve even frozen slices of cheese and vegan deli slices, I’m sure you can do it with the animal products as well. Just put something in between slices so you can easily separate them individually. Some cheese slices tend to crumble a bit on thawing, but that doesn’t matter to me. Also butter (dairy or vegan) can be frozen in blocks or as portions. I don’t have trouble slicing off a bit of a stick from the freezer do you don’t have to wait for the stick to thaw.
Very informative, thank you

I don't know if this is the best way, but when I have cilantro I just put it in a bag and roll it up and put it in the freezer. When I need some I just reach in and pinch off a couple tablespoons more or less. I also freeze Ginger the same way and take it out, grate off what I need and put it back. I roll both of them in plastic bags so they they have several layers protecting them.
Yep, many herbs work well just as you described. I also love doing this with dill when it’s so abundant in summer. Homemade tartar sauce in dead of winter, yum.
me too!
Freeze garlic as well.
I wash the cilantro, trim off the ends, put it in a small type jar filled with about 2-3 inches of water. You don’t want the water soaking the leaves. I leave the cilantro out until the leaves have dried. Take a plastic bag and place over the cilantro. Put the jar of cilantro with its little plastic greenhouse in the fridge. Mine stays fresh for up to three weeks. Sometimes only two. Just a thought.😍
Pasta is something I freeze all the time - it’s SUPER convenient! Also, tofu, cottage cheese, bananas (blended frozen bananas are amazingly tasty!), potatoes (blanched or fully cooked but never freeze raw potatoes). I wish I had a bigger freezer! 😅
Me too!!
You offer good tips, Jillie, & I’ve gotten ideas from your website. A few years ago I read that potato chips could be frozen & thought was just couldn’t be right. I envisioned floppy, soft, icky chips. I had a big bag-unopened-left from a party & tossed them into the freezer. Totally forgot about them-until over a year later! So imagine my shock when they were really good!
Used to make homemade baby food and freeze in icecube trays. Worked amazing.
When u said eggs my eyes was 🙄🙄🙄 but alot of these items I didn't know I could have trow in my freezer🥰🥰🥰 Thank u so much
I recently found that I can rinse & freeze sliced jalapeno/Serrano chili peppers & peeled garlic cloves too....
Any peppers can even just be frozen whole. They chop quite easily if they sit on the counter for just a couple minutes, then right back in if I only need a small amount.
I live alone, so I practically freeze a lot of stuff using silicone ice trays and freezer-safe plastic containers. Anything edible can be frozen, but then again, I'm not fussy about some loss of flavour or texture. So you might want to find out if that happens to certain food items if you're particular about it. My philosophy about cooking is why cook everyday when I can just cook today and eat for 5 to 7 days? Yes, you have to be quite easily satisfied to be able to eat the same thing for 5 to 7 days.
I remember that my mom would freeze milk along, especially when we lived overseas. My dad was in the Air Force.
I remember milk came in a bag ! We would just put in freezer untill needed it.
🌶🧅🧅 I chopp fresh onions, and cut bell peppers into small pieces, or hot peppers too. I freeze them raw in a big sturdy freezer bag. If it clumps together, I let it thaw just a tiny bit and smash it on the kitchen counter. The frozen pieces separate and the bag goes back into the freezer. Any time I find these items in the reduced section, I do the same thing, adding to the same bag, or creating a second such bag. When empty, I rinse that freezer bag, and air dry it. Repeat.
🧄🧄 Garlic freezes beautifully too. None goes to waste.
* Haven't tried mushrooms, but I heard they too can be frozen raw. I would slice them first though.
* I will try to freeze sliced raw cabbage, for cooking with. Another time saver.
🍅🍅 I do as well freeze diced tomatos in small portions, as they surely clump together. Real handy in the winter. Nice thing to do when cleaning up the garden, or when finding price reduced bargains. I also use the green tomatos from my garden, either letting them get ripe indoors, or cooking with them. Or both.
🍌🍌Overripe bananas, in small ziploc bags, to make banana bread or pancakes with. Adding to my regular pancake recipe, plus cinnamon.
🍓🍓 Fresh strawberries for smoothies
🥭🥭 Fresh mango slices for smoothies
🍇🍇 Grapes, a nice cold snack.
Yup I freeze these as well. I snap freeze mine first laying them on a tray or lid just in the freezer for less than an hour, then put in bag. No clumping.
I freeze mushrooms from raw.
We cut up mushrooms into small pieces and throw in ziploc freezer bag and freeze them. Pull out some of those when we need for pizza.
THANX!! These hints are especially great for people that live solo!
I rather see it how it’s done ! I am not good at imagining 😀
I am not freezing any of these but it's good to know. I learned something new
I boil two to four tea bags in one cup measuring cup of water. When cooled I put in two ice cube trays to freeze . Pop up to where they are standing ,refreeze then put in a slider plastic bag. Fill a glass with water adding a cube .
neat tips. for the cookie dough, i make a "sausage" , slice it and roll in plastic wrap; didn't know about the chips- i put them in the micro wave or under the toaster oven and they come back to life; didn't know about the lemons !!! i love that one. You can also freeze avocado !!
I've learned you can freeze butter. Living alone, beingin bad health. Makes life so much easier for me. When I don't feel like cooking. I'm going to try the mash potato freezing. Thanks for your post.
Yup I buy butter in bulk at Costco and freeze it. Just take it out a few hours before you need it cause it’s gets hard.
Jillee is terrific. I've been following her for a number of years and receive her emails with great ideas....she does all the work for you and her research is tried and true. Thanks Jillee for always getting the answers for me. Greatly appreciated.
Love this!! I freeze almost everything! Didn't know about chips/pretzels though
thank you so much. the egg and chip thingy is great to know
Thank you so much for not only telling us what we can freeze but also how to thaw it out!
thank you sooo much, im about to move on my own and this is such good info !!🌟❤️
Frozen Potato Chips are my new jam!!! Thanks for the tip!!

Thank you for many good tips . I have a new freezer and am looking to see what things I can freeze.
Wow have you just saved me money!!! Thank you so much👍💗😘
We do most of these. Us being a small household it makes loads of sense.
Where have you been all my life! I'm literally binge watching your channel

I,very always wondered about cheese thank you for your video.
Thank you!
Very helpful.
LOVE these types of videos! Thanks.
I’d love a video of great freezer meals! The mashed potatoes were a fantastic idea and i’ll definitely remember that next time i do a freezer batch.
Wow these are really helpful tips.
Great idea for the eggs! I never normally use all my eggs before they go bad so this will save me a lot! Thanks for sharing!
I would want to cover those eggs with plastic wrap otherwise they’re going to take on the odors that are in the freezer
This video is fantastic!
😎 You can make cake batter and freeze in individual pans. Or bake and freeze the finished product, once cooled and nicely wrapped.
😎 you can also freeze sliced bread as purchased, and place frozen slices directly in your toaster. No more moldy bread.
Great tips... thanks
Awesome video!!!!
Great video! My freezers are plum full and we always eat the chips, crackers and pretzels 😆
A definite good to know video 😊
Great video!
Great tips love this video
I live alone and dont drink much milk. When I buy a gallon, I put it in 4 -1 quart plastic bottle. I have 1 in the fridge and the other 3 in the freezer. Then pull them out as i need them.
I put extra milk in a clean, sterile, plastic water bottle. It stays fresh in my fridge for about a month, or you can freeze it longer. The key is to us a clean, sterile bottle.I empty the water out of the bottle into a glass to drink. I don't put the milk into a bottle that I have put my lips on, otherwise the bacteria from my mouth makes the milk go bad in a few days.
If you have ice- cube trays you can pour your milk then freeze it, pop out the cubes into a plastic bag, then you can pop them frozen into your cup/ mug when you need to use milk 🥛 in your tea or coffee
🥛🥛 In Canada the milk comes mostly in plastic bags. Real easy to freeze, and thaw one at the time in the kitchen sink covered in water. Nice and fresh.
Tetra pack containers of milk freeze well too, but usually cost a bit more, as compared to the milk sold in bags.
Great tips!
Great tip.
I heard the plastic circle ⭕ on milk was to indicate when it has gone bad and puffs up the container.
Well, both explanations seem correct. When it turns bad, l assume gasses are formed and make the bottle puff up.
In case of freezing the milk, the liquid expands when turning solid. So the bottle also puffs up .
I keep seeing that but I had a gallon that went sour just last month and that thing didn't pop up. I had to smell test. In fact I've had several gallons of sour milk in my life and I've never seen that thing popped. I assume it would have to be sour for a very long time. I think freezer expansion is the actual reason, but I'll have to try it and see.
It works for both.
If you freeze cheese it crumbles when you shred it after it thaws. If you freeze pasta it has to be less cooked than normal or it will freeze and recook up soggy.
Love it 😊
Thank you!
Great ideas
Excited to try the Mashed Potatoes one
I blend my ginger and freeze in ice cube trays, same for lemon/lime juice
If you plant it you can grow it and have it all the time. I haven't tried it yet but I intend to. Take it out the soil, cut off what you need and put it back.
Why is there music playing?
Hello gorgeous thank you for the tips. Try not putting any eyeliner on the bottom I’m about your age and I just learned this it makes your eyes pop if you don’t have the eyeliner on the bottom.
Really ! Do you put it on the top instead?
@@DeborahRose2885 most people these days use eyeliner on the top only. Most people's eyes look smaller with both sides lined but definitely do what feels best for yourself.🥰
@@DeborahRose2885 most people don't put on the bottom because it looks heavy under the eye and makes you look tired. It also makes you look older having it on the bottom. If you feel you have to have it under your eye, only put it on the outer third and blend it well.
Thank you ☺️
Awesome!
We're gonna need a bigger freezer. :)
Oh god
Me too!
🤣🤣
Yes you can freeze milk but take it from a farmer...the ring is for expansion when it spoils . It's not a freezer friendly gimmick. 😕 It's so you notice it's bulging out and unsafe to eat due to increased bacteria creating gas.
Thank you. I subscribed to your channel.
Thank you 💕
Any time!
Crisps never last long enough in our house to freeze 😊. I want to use my freezer more. I think what makes me nervous is I’m never sure about what I need to defrost and what I can cook from frozen.
We chop and freeze onion peppers and mushrooms it makes fast easy stirfry. Onions are a pain every meal so we chop a lot of them and freeze. We also found red peppers for like .35 each so we bought like 10. I’m ew dot freeze chips or crackers it makes them moist and taste like freezer
Lovely
Pastries usually freeze very well: donuts, cookies, pies, cakes, etc. I’ll even portion them out in bags first to make it a little harder to eat it all at once... Big cookies and donuts can be cut into more appropriate pieces before freezing. If they are already individually wrapped (as huge cookies often are), I just crack them into pieces before putting them in the freezer, no need to take them out of the original packaging.
Chips obviously freeze well, but so does popcorn whether freshly popped or from a commercial prepopped bag. I will portion it out first in plastic bags and it lasts for ages. Junky cereal likewise. But just portioning out such things in individual zip bags also seems to keep them quite edible for ages as well, even out of the freezer.
Great ideas - now, I need room in the freezer :-) I have a freeze dryer load running now - just so I do not waste it.
Freeze dryer load?
Really like the herbs, but… anything in an ice cube tray still needs a freezer bag. Cheers.
Who has leftover chips????
Other than that cool tips!
Thank You! Good video.
tks,i saute onions and freeze in small batches
Hi, could you please tell me how you go about it? Would appreciate. Thxs
I freeze away my fresh spinach, bananas, pineapple etc . . . to use everyday in my smoothies!
I saw a ice cream using frozen bananas with cocoa.
I just make a big batch of smoothies and freeze them. Take it out and by the time I'm ready to eat its unthawed.
Weed freezes well.
🤣🤣🤣
Sure does. Always fresh and tasty. That where I keep it, makes it easy to grind and roll, don't even have to wait for it to thaw out.
PART 2 PLEASE!!
I heard that when you thaw cheese to thaw it in the fridge to solve the crumble issue but...it doesn't work! so should I be thawing it at room temperature?
Room temperature and several hours. Cheese crumbles if not properly thawed.
can you freeze neenish tarts
I freeze cheese and milk. It is fine.
How long can you keep mashed potatoes or eggs in the freezer? Or herbs? Or dough?
A pretty long time. Several months for sure.
🥚🥚🥚There are other ways of preserving eggs, for a very long time. Things people did before electricity bacame a thing. Chicken significantly slow the egg laying down during winter, and then get very busy early in spring time. THOWNSENDS channel is a great place to learn about the old ways.
2:45 mash potato ice cream :)
Okay the milk how long after expired date ??
Wish I can use freezer as much as described. Buy my freezer is filled with fish for my cats and I dont even have space to put a ice cream.
You can freeze hard cheese but it looses quite a lot of its flavour and becomes crumbly, so harder to slice and grate.
Hard cheeses only get better as they age, no need to freeze them. Think about how much we pay for aged cheese, all they are doing is letting them sit in the fridge. Even if the cheese molds, just cut off the mold.
With block cheese I shredder it directly frozen and use it over my pastas
My food gets freezer burned, how do you prevent this? (There's no dial at all)ice crystalls form inside bags too.
Try double baging it helps
That's probably because you don't have enough stuff in it for the temperature its set. At least, that's what I've realized with my freezer. Whenever I have just a few items in there everything gets freezer burned. It's probably too cold for the amount that's in there.
Remove as much air from the bag as you can or vacuum seal it.
I bought the “storage saver” that vacuums all the moisture out and I never have freezer burn again. I use it for everything and it really makes my freezer neat and orderly as I freeze everything in flat squares. Well worth the purchase.
DO THE CHIPS GET PUT IN THE FREEZER AFTER YOU OPEN THEM AND HAVE SOME LEFT OVER OR JUST FREEZE A SECOND BAG OF UN OPENED CHIPS
OR
DO YOU CHANGE THE PACKAGING
Defrosted eggs have a different texture from fresh eggs, not sure if freezing changes the yolks or whites but they cook up different for me too.🤔
Perfect for baking with, and this is done in comercial bakeries too.
😎 Scrambled eggs turn out just fine.
I heard adding a sprinkle of salt helps with the texture
Bold of you to assume we all have freezers😅
I cook soups, roast, and what I call home made meals. I use food saver keeps food from being freezer burner. I'v
You can freeze a homemade burritos also lol
