- Here we have a driveway bordered in Belgian Block. For these types of driveways you have to be extra careful. This day topped out at around 90 degrees, so we needed to move quickly but always with precision. People in the comments have been saying they want an uncut, no music added video. What is SEALCOATING and why should I do it?
1. Sealcoating protects and prolongs the life expectancy of asphalt pavement by filling surface damage and providing a protective layer to keep out damaging UV rays, vehicle fluids, and water.
2. The low cost of regular sealcoating can save you money in the long run. A properly maintained and sealed asphalt surface has an extended lifetime and reduces long-term repair costs.
3. With exposure to the elements, asphalt pavement over time becomes faded in appearance. A fresh sealcoat application enhances the appearance of asphalt, making it look and wear like new.
4. Sealcoating is typically done using one of two application methods: spray or squeegee/brush.
5. Sealcoating accelerates the melting process of snow and ice on pavement surfaces. This helps to protect against water penetration, rain, frost and snow damage.
6. To correctly complete the sealcoating process, the air and pavement temperature is recommended to be at least 55 degrees Fahrenheit for the duration of the application and for eight hours following the application.
7. Prior to pavement sealing, the asphalt surface should be cleared of all dirt and debris. In addition, minor repairs, like potholes and cracks, should be filled and vehicle fluids, like oil, should be properly removed.

The way you cut in around the block takes a lot of skill. Especially with a 4ft brush. You know the viscosity of your material very well…you know the exact pace and angle to push the broom. You know how to work that brush into a corner. Real finesse!!!!

I'm a sealcoater from the Chicago area and am wondering why don't you use a 6 inch edging brush you have alot of control and it speeds things up. You do a good job BTW

Any tips to avoid squeegee lines? Whenever I raise and then lower my squeegee it leaves a mark which is difficult to remove. I am hoping switching to the tip you guys use would resolve that as the one I am using does not have bristles and is instead just a long piece of plastic.
We use brushes. I twist inward as I do my final pass.
Use a brush, not squeegees...It works it into the macadam the best with no waste. Reach out to Greg and I bet he would be more than happy to give lessons !

Being so hot, does it affect how much more/less you have to use. Does it "flow" better or is it "absorbed " more quickly, etc?
The only thing that matters on how much material we use is wether or not the driveway has been sealed before.
Does it always have a dark chocolate brown colour? Do you have different requests from clients? How much product would you say you used to do this driveway?

I had mine done and the guy sprayed it it didn't feel any cracks does it feel the cracks up by doing it like you do
For driveways, brushing is the best (I think).

Cobblestones are usually round where as Belgian Blocks are squared or rectangular

How do you get rid of the footprints after or do they fade away when your walking in it while spreading the material ?

So is there different colors or am I crazy? Sometimes it looks black and sometimes like this one a gorgeous chocolate brown. 🤔
In direct sunlight, its a brown-is color. When it dries it will be jet black.

You can sealcoat your car if you want. This product is designed to adhere to asphalt only.

why is it brown? and not black?
It just looks like that in the sun sometimes. The sealer always dries jet black.
But what about all the footprints they are leaving
You can see in our other videos how we remove them. No footprints left behind.
All the DIY seal coat videos say pressure wash first. I never see you do that. Why?
A lot of the time they are spraying and pulling a squeegee, usually only doing one pass. We are brushing the sealer in from multiple angles. But yes, for the best results pressure washing beforehand is the best. It’s just not always going to happen.
